Today I am featuring the 2004 BMDCA National Specialty Ways & Means. They had a table of wonderful Berner items , and I'm not sure how much stuff they still have available.

The 2004 Specialty table was filled with wonderful Berner items with the Specialty theme. I bought a lot of items from them that were very nice.

The Speciality pins are always a must for everyone at the Specialty. I do know that they had these left over and the price is just $6.

They had nice embroidered patches, logo T-shirts, both short and long sleeved, and sweatshirts and sweatpants, too. They also carried baseball caps, neck scarves, hooded zipper sweatshirts, henley shirts and shorts with their logo. I especially liked the grooming smocks and the washcloths and towel sets. They even carried queen sized sheets with their logo, which were great for crate covers or to cover the blankets in the hotel. They had a nice array of wooden items with laser engroved logos: round box, clocks, card boxes, key chains and key holders. My husband liked the leather zipper portfolio with the Specialty logo on it that I bought for him. Their etched glass items were also very nice: salt & pepper shakers, treat jars and jewelry boxes. They had travel pouches, wind socks, decals, purses and the Berner children's play set.

If you're interested in any of these items, contact the co-chairs to see if they are still available
.
Happy Easter to Everyone!!!

Their ash colored "Bigger and Better in Texas!" T-shirt says it all! You should see the size of the coffee mug that we got at the Awards Dinner Banquet i TX. Texans do seem to like "BIG THINGS!" They have a really cute, whimsical Berner pulling a cart with longhorn steer horns on the cart. It has color accents from the gorgeous bluebonnets, with an oil derrick gushing oil on the left and longhorn steer peeking over the hill at the Berner pulling his cart on the right. The cart has 3 dinosaur bones in it and the sky is full of big yellow stars.- $20 (sizes M through LX) and $23 (sizes XXL and XXXL.)

You can check out this cute shirt and other Berner items on their website at: lonestarbernese.org

Of course you can always order their ever popular shirt: "Berners - Betcha can't have just one!" t-shirt and sweatshirts. In fact, I'll betcha can't even look at these shirts without a smile, either. These playful pups are a must have item. Available on white 100% cotton t-shirts or ash colored 100% cotton sweatshirts. This design was produced exclusively for their club by local artist and LSBMDC member, Ann Landeros.

You are really going to love their leather doorknob hanger with a Berner with 2 large gold jingle bells on it.

They also carry Happy-Go-Lucky Bernese Mt. Dogs made by Stone Critters (R). The "Happy Berner" is approx 4 inches tall x 5 inches long. It is made by Stone Critters (R)

BARC, Inc. is a non-profit, tax-exempt (501c3) corporation dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating Bernese Mountain Dogs from dog brokers, dog auctions, puppy mills, and any other dangerous, exploitative or abusive situation. BARC, Inc. places these dogs in loving pet homes as spayed or neutered companions.

Several BARC rescued dogs attended the 2004 BMDCA National Specialty in Mesquite, TX a few weeks ago, sporting their "BARC'n FOR RESCUE" bandanas. What lucky dogs they are - their lives took a turn for the "good" when BARC rescued them and their lives have continued in that same good direction since then. Both the dogs and their people showed their love for each other in everything they did, including entering BARC dog health data into the new Berner-Garde Foundation Database!

BARC introduced a lovely NEW cloisonné BARC logo lapel pin at the Specialty. It features "BARCer", the puppy, and their "Break the Chain" motto. These pins are just $5 and a great little gift for friends or collectors. The pins can be obtained from Ways and Means Chair, Jane Heggen, at: jane@inav.net.

BARC "Stop the cruelty, don't buy pet store puppies" T-shirts are available in white in sizes L to XXL. These stylish, quality T-shirts are $10 each and will provide plenty of opportunities for you to educate others when you wear one. Be prepared to answer questions from the public about puppy mills when you wear your shirt!!! Contact Jane Heggen, Ways and Means Chair, at: jane@inav.net.

Another new item for BARC is the crystal beveled-glass BARC sun catcher, featuring the BARC logo etched into the round glass disk. This classy item has a silver or gold hanger, making it easy to hang over the rear view mirror of your Berner Mobile to enjoy as you drive home from obedience class! The cost is $20 (which includes a nice gift box.) Contact Jane Heggen, Ways and Means Chair, at: jane@inav.net to purchase a gorgeous BARC sun catcher.

BARC also has a limited-edition, numbered and signed-by-the-artist etching of "BARC 2003". These are not prints, but rather hand printed (etched) collectable works of art, crafted by internationally recognized canine artist, Geoffrey Lasko, whose artwork has been sold at the famed Sotheby's. Lasko, who has portrayed other breeds for the AKC, donated his artistic talents to BARC in appreciation of board member, Jane Heggen, who assisted in rescuing his artwork from a fire in his studio.

The 50 limited-edition, numbered, hand-colored, hand-printed etchings are selling quickly, but if you act fast, it is not too late to add a gorgeous colored etching to your personal art collection. According to one well known Ohio Berner exhibitor, "This was the classiest item for sale at the 2004 Specialty!" Hand-colored etchings are $130, plus $6 for shipping and handling. These etchings will not be reprinted, so they are truly a collector's item.

If you would rather have an etching in classic black and white, these are also available for $80 each, plus $6 for shipping and handling. Only 180 of these limited edition etchings exist and they are selling well. Once they are sold, they will never be printed again. Each etching, hand numbered and embossed with the artist's personal stamp, is printed on museum quality archival paper.

To order your limited-edition BARC 2003 etchings, please e-mail your request to BARC Board Member, Jane Heggen at: jane@inav.net. Be sure to make your check payable to "Bernese Auction Rescue Coalition, Inc."

And, don't forget about the other lovely T-shirt that is available. Every rescue organization needs a friend like Rachelle Johnstad, who was one of 4 individuals honored by BARC at the National Specialty for outstanding contributions to BARC! Rachelle, an enthusiastic BARC supporter, has designed and is offering a "Rescue a Berner" T-shirt to anyone who is willing to make a tax-deductible donation to BARC. The quality T-shirt is printed on a natural colored T-shirt made of 100% pre shrunk cotton with a beautiful picture of her BARC rescue baby, Bearon. Sizes are available in small, medium, large, and extra large. To make your donation and receive your shirt, contact Rachelle at: rachelle100@hotmail.com.

Berner-Garde

There is a LOT of EXCITEMENT surrounding the new Berner-Garde Database!!!!!

One of the very exciting things at the 2004 National Specialty in Mesquite, TX earlier this month, was the NEW, IMPROVED BERNER-GARDE DATABASE that was on display at the Berner-Garde Booth!! For those of you who don't know about it, you need to check it out!!! You can actually update your information on line and add new dogs and litters, too.
http://www.bernergarde.org/

The Berner-Garde Foundation (BGF) is a tax exempt organization, established to collect, maintain and disseminate information about genetic diseases observed in the Bernese Mountain Dog. The BGF is comprised of a voluntary Board of Directors, several committees and, at it's core, a computerized database. The database contains information which has been compiled over many years from voluntary submissions of data from owners and from other public sources of information, including the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals(OFA) and the Canine Eye Registration Foundation(CERF).

The collection of information in the dababase is the heart and soul of Berner-Garde. A year ago, The Berner-Garde board made a determination to totally revamp the database technology. It was a huge project that cost a moderate amount of money and lots of time and effort. Basically they have moved the database to higher capacity technology and made it directly available via a web based application. That means that at anytime, anyone can view the database that all of the operators update directly.

For those of you who are return visitors to this website, you will notice many many changes. The format is certainly different but most importantly, all of the information contained in the database is now available for your review. The information in the BGF database is now available online to owners, breeders, veterinarians and researchers who are working to reduce genetic disease in the Bernese Mountain Dog.

While it does not provide instant modifications to information you provide on-line, the changes made are a huge step in the direction of information sharing. The hope is that seeing the database in its entirety, you will be compelled to not only update, but to correct and add information that is missing in the database. Only with complete data can they provide the information necessary for researchers to adequately study our beloved Bernese Mountain Dogs and their genetic diseases.

In addition to maintaining the database, the Berner-Garde foundation funds research studies aimed at reducing the health problems found in Bernese Mountain Dogs. Research proposals and grants are approved on a case-by-case basis by the Board of Directors.

The Data Operators are volunteers that receive your data submissions and enter the information into the Berner-Garde Database. Under the guidance of the File Manager, they work hard to insure that the data is entered accurately and completely. Health and Certification information is verified to insure the integrity of the database. You can submit your dog or litter data via the forms available on their web site or by contacting one of the Data Operators directly.

Oh....and by the way.......be sure to check out the photos of the distinguished trustees for Berner-Garde on their website.

The Berner-Garde items that are available for your purchase are listed below. Please note that they are currently on sale!!

I am always impressed with the quality items that Pat carries. She has many Bernese Mountain Dog head studies, clip art, draft and agility patterns and will do custom designs from your artwork, logos and pictures. She does a variety of other breeds, too.

She carries denim shirts in long sleeve ($45,) short sleeve ($40) and sleeveless ($35) in blue and tan. Pat also carries men's and women's T-shirts and sweatshirts in many colors. Of course they can be adorned with any Berner design or design of your choice.

Pat has comfy fleece vests, jackets and throws in many colors. She also carries towels, aprons and tote bags, all adorned with lovely Berners!

Pat donated a very nice pink long sleeve denim berner shirt to the Berner-Garde Fundraiser.

This vendor was always demonstrating the two items they had and everyone was most impressed with their effectivness!

"Mr. Sticky" is the lint roller that never needs refills. It comes in 3 sizes: small is pocket size, medium is for clothes and large is for comforters, bedspreads, couches, etc. Now, is this something that a berner owner would need? YES!!! You get all 3 sizes of "Mr. Sticky" for $24.95.

"Magicloth" is a super absorbent, man made chamois. It's terrific for drying your berner after a bath, as a cooling cloth and to pick up spills or accidents from the carpet or any surface. You get 2 - 2 packs (four giant sheets) for $19.99.

Suzanne and Alex donated a "Maticcloth" to the Berner-Garde Fundraiser.

The Moriah Company offers an excellent selection of leather colors. All Moriah leather leads are handsewn and finished with the appropriate brass or Italian bronze fastener. With all of their leads where stitching is required, all work is done by hand rather than machine-stitched.

Moriah show leads are available in any length and a variety of widths necessary for the conformation ring. All leads have edges beveled, are dyed the requested color, handstitched, and finished with solid brass or Italian bronze. The Moriah Company's round leather choke collars are a unique collar - they are excellent for show or everyday use, and the collars do not cut the dog's coat. They are available in nearly any size, from the giant breed to the toy breeds. They also offer a snap collar version. The Moriah rounded leather buckle collars are constructed of a heavily rounded, thick piece of leather. These "oval" widths are currently available in 3/8" and 1/2".

Yvonne creates original clay sculptures. It was fascinating to watch her work with the clay and sculpt berners out of a lump of clay! She has been sculpting show dogs for more than 15 years, doing all breeds in multiple and creative designs. Many of her different statue styles can be seen on her website. You can also have your own idea created, as all of her work is completely hand made .... no two sculptures are exactly alike ... all are ''originals'' ... truly a work of art. They are glazed and kiln fired and are dishwasher safe! Special orders are welcome. Her prices range from $40 to $400.

Yvonne donated a Texas Berner to the Berner-Garde Fundraiser.

Ingrid Hubbard had some wonderful berner paintings with her at the specialty. She is proficient in virtually every art medium including painting, drawing and design. She is equally at home with traditional and digital media, including individual art and web design. She has been raising, training and showing dogs for 35 years and has instructed others in dog training for most of these years. Ingrid prefers performance sports with her dogs, but is equally at home in the breed ring.

You must visit her website to check out her beautiful work:
http://www.studiohonline.com/

Her glass art can be viewed by reflected light or light transmitted through. Glass art can be hung on a wall or in a window. The vibrant colors and inviting subjects create a colorful and beautiful accent for any room. Glass window art is permanent paint on glass. The translucent t paint and slightly raised surface create a fascinating play of light in any situation, from warm to cool daylight coming through the glass painting to interior evening lights reflecting off it. Each item is hand done, one at a time. No two works are the same. Look through the samples on her website, then imagine your dog's picture hanging in your favorite window. Ingrid can use a photograph sent to her to put your dog's markings on a standard picture head. Pictures are available in 8" x 10," 11" x 14" and larger. Borders can be colored to match your room. The corners can have paw prints, doggie bones or a burst design. Paintings are also available on plates, vases, nightlights and on a curved frame which allows you to display your dog's photograph.

$50 covers a head of your choice with your dog's markings. You may chose any head on her website. You will receive an 8 x 10 picture of your dog in an appropriate frame. $75 includes an 8 x 10 picture of your dog from a favorite photo. $100 includes an 11 inch x 14 inch picture of your dog from a favorite photo in an appropriate frame. The glass around the outside of the picture may be any color you choose.

$50 - Nightlights can be made with any breed or any color glass. The lights come on automatically when dark and go off during the day. They take a standard nightlight bulb.

Ingrid also does terrific tire covers - they are personalized especially for you. Your kennel name or a second dog head can be added. $125.00 plus shipping and tax and cost of wheel cover - $150.00 to add kennel name - $175.00 for two dogs.

By Jove

By Jove
Eve Lapolla
5599 Olentangy River Rd.
Columbus, Ohio 43235
E-Mail: byjove@columbus.rr.com
Web site: http://www.byjove.net

By Jove specializes in the Bernese Mountain Dog items and constantly seeks out new and different products. Many of the Berner items you see on Eve's website are exclusive to By Jove and are created from artists all over the United States, as well as several foreign countries. Emphasis is placed on quality. I have a lot of items from Eve and add to my collection each year.

I know that many people have been wondering where they can buy a copy of Dr. Bernd Günter's fantastic new Bernese Mountain Dog coffee table. "The Bernese Mountain Dog: A Dog of Destiny" is hot off the presses and has been really selling well. The text portrays the essence of the Berner Sennenhund and celebrates the human-Berner bond. The photographs capture the beauty -- body and soul -- of the Bernese Mountain Dog in breathtaking and charming images, many of which are taken in authentic Swiss settings. This is an absolutely wonderful book and a "MUST" for your Berner collection! The book sells for $59.95.

Eve has a lot of great new items - be sure to visit her web site to see them. She has several different Cami Kriner note cards (4 cards/envelopes for $7.50) I just love Cami's art work! Eve also has a cute welcome yard sign handpainted by Dee Craig ($80) and some terrific new T-shirts. I bought T-shirts for my three granddaughters and of course, one for me, too! Eve carries a delightful ash gray sweatshirt with a wonderful caricature of a Berner on it, complete with dirty paw prints. At the bottom of the shirt it says "SIT HAPPENS" ($39.95.) Another great new designs of sweatshirts and t-shirts is one of a Berner running at you on the front of the shirt and on the reverse of the shirt you see his tail end.

Eve carries a wonderful statue of a Berner on a pile of wood (5 1/2"L x 7"W x 9"H) which is another berner in the Platinum Collection of statues. ($70.95) She has a great great decal caricature of a Berner decal (5x7) for your car window ($6) and a real cute fuzzy CD holder. It has a 3 - D face with a zipper that opens to hold your favorite CD's. It also has a nice handle on it for easy transporting. ($12.50) I just love her handpainted pins - they range in price from $39.95 to $55. Eve has a very nice selection of kid's things, too, which are usually hard to find.

Eve always donates items to every fundraiser I have. She donated a Berner shaped chalk board for the Berne-Garde Fundraiser.

This ends my series on "Shopping at the Specialty." I hope that you have all enjoyed seeing what the vendors had to offer at the specialty and that you will visit their websites and purchase some items from them.
