{short description of image} Item # 9

Marilyn Diener, a Pennsylvania artist skilled in paper cutting or "scherenschnitte", made this happy Berner especially for the Health Auction. Many early German settlers in both Berks & Lancaster counties created scherenschnitte for special occaisions. A traditional folk art in Switzerland as well, it seemed an appropriate media for a Berner design.

BMD Victor BMD Victor Colour
Item # 12

Donated by Jane Heggen

Collectable works of art crafted by internationally recognized canine artist, Geoffrey Lasko, whose artwork has been sold at the famed Sotheby's.

Jane, who assisted in rescuing his work from a fire in his studio is donating 3 items, the original sketch of Victor used by the artist as the basis for the etching, one of the black and white etchings, and the hand colored etching too!

Bernese Giclee Print Item # 13

Artist, Barbara Lee, has donated a lovely 8X10 giclee print of an original watercolor mixed media painting of a beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog.

The print has been matted and framed by Jill Shaeffer, making it a very attractive item for our Health Fund Auction. The print has original initials on the front and an original signature on the back.

By the way, Giclee (zhee-klay) means that the images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks onto various substrates including canvas, fine art, and photo-base paper. The giclee printing process provides better color accuracy than other means of reproduction.

Gettysburg Quilt

Item # 14

This cuddle quilt, approx 50 x 72 with a polar fleece backing, is inspired by the Gettysburg Specialty theme. The fabrics include images of civil war coins, flags and snare drums. Berners and drums are the "stars" of the quilt. This is the second year in what we hope becomes a long tradition of the Inland Northwest BMDC Quilters (from Idaho, Montana and Utah) compiling their talents and efforts to make a Specialty themed quilt for the Health Fund Auction.

Berner Cart Item # 18

This cart is donated by Pat Long and Barbie Beck-Wilczek and Bill Wilczek.

It is a beautiful example of the craftsmanship in all Wilczek Woodworks products. It is a prototype, and currently one of a kind. (Note: This was written by me, Pat Long, so don't be thinking Bill is bragging about his work. But someone needs to!) Additionally, the cart easily comes apart for shipping and re-assembly at home. The steel rimmed wooden wheels are fully functional but could be replaced with lighter pneumatic tires and wheels for certain applications such as competitions if desired.

Painting by Carol Pontin Item # 19

UK artist, Carol Pontin, has donated a blank canvas to the auction.

She will do a custom painting for the winner!
A4 size.

"Carol Pontin is a wildlife artist working mainly in watercolor, who has earned many international commissions. The majority of these commissions have been of "head & shoulder" portraits of dogs against a simple washed background in their natural habitat. She will place the winner's Berner into the backdrop of their choice working from photographs which can be separate studies of dog and background. Her work is exhibited at The Ladythorpe Gallery in Hatfield, South Yorkshire, UK and she teaches at the gallery on a regular basis."

NB Re. Items # 4, 13 & 22

These prints have been custom framed by Jill Shaeffer, someone that not only has many years experience in framing, but has a wonderful eye for a beautiful means of enhancing the artwork. Please note that the items on this page are only a selection of the many wonderful donations. Each item that Jill frames will be so noted on the description placed next to the items on display at the auction, so do look for her work and tell her thank you! She donated all of her framing work to the Health Fund fundraising! She has also contributed a beautifully framed print by Janet Wissman, the Gentle Pleader. We don't have a photo of the item shown here, and we are struggling with Pat to make sure she brings it to the Auction, yes, it's that nice!

(Note from Jean Cheesman: since Pat is picking me up at the airport, and I am going to the show with Pat, I will ransack her house if I have to in order to ensure that the print makes it to the Auction! As well as the weathervane. And the goose eggs, and the feather too. Pat claims she has misplaced some of these things, but we all know better!)
