Shopping at the BMDCA Specialty 2010

It's time for the Shopping at the Specialty series to begin! In 1998, Pat Long reported on the vendors at the Rhode Island Specialty and in 1999, she handed off the series to me and I've been doing it since then.

For the past two years, Lynn Alvarez has taken the photos for the series, which has been a huge help to me. THANK YOU, Lynn!!!

Six years ago I purchased a jacket from Gone Doggin' and every single time I wear it, I get many compliments on it! People are amazed to find out that I was able to pick out the scenes I wanted to appear on the back and the front of the coat. The jackets are made from two of the tapestry throws and I was able to select the portions of the throwss that I wanted for the jacket and the placement of each. She made the jacket that night and I picked it up the next day at the Pittsburgh Dog Show!! What service!!

Pelli's CastleWorks
Vendor: MaryAnn and Brink Field
2976 E. 50th Street
Minneapolis, MN 55417
Phone: 612-728-3785
E-Mail: pelliscastle@earthlink.net
Web Site: www.pelliscastleworks.com

Pelli's CastleWorks makes custom made collars, so each one is different. MaryAnn makes the collars using gem stones, crystals and other healing stones. Brink makes the clasps by hand out of copper wire. Check out their website: www.pelliscastleworks.com. It says that these collars serve 2 purposes: 1) They look cool to wear and each one is totally unique. 2) The collar helps with healing the body, mind and spirit. The collars are made from healing stones and the price depends upon the size of stones used. Prices range from $95 to $125 or so.

Fetishes are combinations of stones put together in a way that helps with different physical and emotional issues. These fetishes can be used for key chains and zipper pulls for humans, too. Small fetishes are $12 and large are $25. They also make bracelets for people which sell for $50.

The collars are made of only natural materials, whenever possible. They use cotton for the cording, and Brink makes the clasps out of copper. The tags are made from brass, the small cable is stainless steel wire and they do not use dyed or man-made stones. MaryAnn is really particular about having only “real” materials in the collars since natural materials allow the healing process to be as unadulterated as possible.

They include a write-up with each collar that tells which stones were used and what the healing properties of those stones are. They also include a care guide and a printout of each animal’s Earth Astrology sign.

MaryAnn donated a lovely collar to the 2010 Berner-Garde Fundraiser.

You might ask, "What is biothane?" Biotnane is mildew and bacteria resistance, has flexibility to -20°F, consistent tensile strength, virtually maintenance free, waterproof and cleans in seconds. It is available in a variety of colors, as well as traditional leather-look choices of Black, Saddle Brown, Chestnut Brown and Havana Dark Brown. Since the colorant is an actual part of the PVC coating and not an added dye, it will not run or bleed when wet. Also, the edges of the strapping are sealed with the coating, so they will not cut or break a dog’s fur. All of their hardware is Solid Brass or Stainless Steel and they use Chicago Screws glued with thread lock instead of rivets, to provide an attractive, secure attachment.

This vendor had to be one of the most colorful displays at the Specialty. Check out the website to see the items Martha carries in a rainbow of color: www.allthingsbiothane.com

They will custom make adjustable siwash harnesses, adjustable tracking harnesses, and chest/parade harnesses. She carries beautiful collars, leads, bells and carting accessories. She also carries carts: colorful collapsible crate carts, brace collapsible crate carts, and wooden competition carts. Be sure to see the title charm collars and leads, and the draft title bells.

Martha is going to make something from her line of products for our 2010 Berner-Garde Fundraiser.
