The stern pilot of the Shenlong
Gundam is the proud offspring of a
legendary warrior clan, who were
exiled from China to a decrepit space
colony by a fearful government. Wufei
adheres to a strict code of honor and
justice, seeking to protect the weak
and punish the guilty. But his pride is
something of a weak point - when
pushed too far, Wufei's huge ego has a
tendency to break.
Unlike the other Gundam pilots, even
the relatively antisocial Heero and
Trowa, Wufei prefers to operate alone
and frequently seems to have a better
idea what's going on than his
blundering fellows. His only
companion is his Gundam, which he
calls "Nataku" after the Chinese
mythological hero.
Endless Waltz
In Endless Waltz Wufei, driven by his
warrior's pride and a burning sense of
justice, has found himself unable to
adapt to a world at peace. As he sees
it, the new era has simply discarded
the soldiers who fought to bring it
about, and he has no choice but to seek
out a new battle. Thus, he declines to
join his former comrades in disposing
of his Gundam, and instead puts it at
the service of the rebel Mariemaia
Army.
Secret History
In an Endless Waltz flashback, we see
how Wufei rebelled against the original
plan for Operation Meteor, which
called for dropping his home colony
onto Earth. Instead, he took the
Shenlong Gundam and went to Earth
to fight the enemy directly. Ironically,
the colony was nonetheless destroyed
in the course of the war against OZ,
leaving Wufei without a home or
family to return to.
