Cardcaptor Confusion: Previously, AnimeOnDVD.com listed the Cardcaptor Sakura the Movie 2 - The Sealed Card release coming from Pioneer on 11/18/2003, the same day as the final volume of the TV series. This release, listed at 29.98, is now called a Special Edition. In addition to this release, there is now a regular edition listed at $19.98. At this time, AnimeOnDVD.com does not know what the differences are between the two, such as one being dub only and the Special Edition being bilingual. Once they know more, they'll post and update the two review templates, and I'll post it on the Press Releases page.

July 2, 2003:

More CCS Movie 2 News:
Cardcaptor Sakura Movie 2: The Sealed Card will be released in the United States on DVD November 18th. The film will include an optional English dubbed audio track by Bang Zoom Entertainment, not Nelvana Studios.

The tentative street date is November 18, 2003. It's not written in stone and the date could be pushed back. There is no information at this time when the 2nd movie will be made available in English outside of the US. If it is, it may be distributed by another company, which is currently the case now for Cardcaptors videos in Canada, UK, Australia, etc. Keep your eye on ebay later in the year as it may pop up there first before anywhere else in wide distribution.

The manga artist group CLAMP, with their latest work "Tsubasa" ("Wings" / Weekly Shonen Magazine) already running a ladder of success in hyper speed, had its official site "CLAMP-NET.COM" totally renewed. The contents of the site have now become much easier to look through and the newly organized site includes tons of stuff that fans are sure to be happy with!!

On the "CLAMP-NET.COM" there is a section called "LOFT" that includes a collection of freely downloadable web-materials for the personal homepage owners can freely make use on their own sites. There is also a section entitled "WORKS" where viewers can look through database of CLAMP's past works, a section called "BIRTHDAY" where you can check up on the birthdays of characters from CLAMP's mangas, and a section called "ALBUM" where people can read occasional comments and thoughts about miscellaneous things written by the members of CLAMP.

The site does have its rules concerning linking and rights concerning the works shown on the homepage, so CLAMP fans (although this might be taken for granted) should keep them in mind when enjoying yourselves at the renewed CLAMP site!!

June 11, 2003 -- Source: clowprincess223 from Book of Clow

clowprincess223 (AKA Barbara) wrote the following letter to Nelvana:

Dear Nelvana,

When you updated your web site you still linked Cardcaptors to Kids WB in the US. WB hasn't carried Cardcaptors in nearly two years. Was this simply a mistake or is Kids WB going to put the show back on?

She got back this response from Nelvana yesterday:

"WB has the rights to air the show.  Whether they do so or not is their choice.  Perhaps they will one day choose to air the show again."

What this means is until Warner Brothers (WB) sells the rights to Cardcaptors, or their contract expires, the USA cable channel Cartoon Network cannot air it. Yes they did air it in the past, but that was a special deal between WB and Cartoon Network at the time. Remember when Toonami promos were on KidsWB? It was a cross-promotion thing between the two networks that worked rather well. Then they each had heated debates between each other because part of the toonami block on Cartoon Network (4-5PM) was taking ratings away from KidsWB afternoon blocks. This is why you may have seen Cartoon Network's Toonami block flip flop from 4-7PM to 5-7PM, and back, and back again.

Well out of the 7 postcards with characters on them, our favorite Sakura is one of them, in the blue battle costume from the Cardcaptors episode "Double Trouble."

More information on "Tsubasa":

The Manga series named Tsubasa, which means "Wing," will feature Li Shaoran as the protagonist. In it, Sakura and Shaoran seem to be older than they were in CCS, 14-15 according to Animaxis' estimates. Sakura is Princess Sakura, heir to the throne of Clow Country, and Shaoran is her childhood friend and the son of an archaeologist. For more information, read the summary below:

The latest title of CLAMP called "Tsubasa" started its serialization in last week's Weekly Shonen Magazine. Already ballyhooed as the most crowning work of CLAMP ever, its main character is - well guess who's back; it's Sakura and Syaoran.

Its serialization has only just started so no further details of what will happen in the end. But you can expect this is a parallel adventure story as CLAMP, the group that has created various masterpieces like "Chobits", "Cardcaptor Sakura", "X", etc, made a small comment at the colored inner jacket illustration of this first chapter that:
"This is a story that we always wanted to draw; a story that has a message that 'various worlds are linked'."
The story features the main characters from "Cardcaptor Sakura", and from the start you get to see Sakura, Syaoran, Touya, and Yukito. However its story is not a sequel to "CC Sakura", and the story goes on in the totally different settings and environment. Seems to be Sakura and Syaoran are much older than the former title, judging to be about 14 - 15 years old.

**** The main story line of the very first chapter is as below: ****

Princess Sakura is the heir to the throne of the Clow Country, and she fancies her childhood friend Syaoran, whose father was an archaeologist ad he himself devotes his life for excavation. The brother of Sakura and the King of Clow, Touya is not really happy about that. But Yukito, the hierarch of the country foresee that Syaoran is Sakura's "Destined one", and that Sakura possesses a power to change the world.

One day, a strange crest that is no of the Clow, was found inside the excavating relic. The bedrock that carries the crest is extremely hard, and no machines or power was able to break it through. But when Sakura felt the crest, the crest engraved on the rock breaks up and she disappears into it. When Syaoran followed her, what he saw was Sakura, being wrapped by streams of bright light and wearing a pair of wings.
Meanwhile, around the relics the air suddenly rips apart and another dimension appears. From there strangers appears and they broke into Clow, and start attacking Touya and others. And at the other end of the dimension, mysterious people watch the event, plotting something. Who are those people....?

After the attack Syaoran takes stone-cold Sakura to another world by Yukito, to a person who possess the same Moon power as him. Called "the Witch of the Dimension", she was...! And will Syaoran be able to save Sakura?

From the first chapter of the series, "Tsubasa" (meaning Wing(s)) has already linked with "XXXHOLIC", a series currently running on Young Magazine. Let us look forward to see its further development, and whether it will link with other worlds.

TOKYOPOP has announced that the second Rising Stars of Manga contest will run from June 1st to September 1st, 2003. Like the first competition, the competition calls for original manga style submissions from aspiring creators.

The ten winners of the first competition had their works published in an anthology that was recently shipped to bookstores. Similarly, ten winners of the second competition will have their works published in a new anthology that will be published next winter. They will also win monetary prizes (From $2500 to $500), and the grand-prize winner will be "invited to pitch a full-length manga story idea to TOKYOPOP executives for possible development as a graphic novel series."

TOKYPOP has defined "Manga" on their webpage, and interestingly states, "The first Rising Stars of Manga contest winners did not rise to the top by redrawing American superheroes with big eyes and round faces - this is not what manga means to us."

The contest is only open to residents of the United States. Full details and rules for the contest can be read at TOKYOPOP's webpage for the competition.

A new CLAMP series has started in "Weekly Shounen Magazine" called "Tsubasa". The names of the main characters are "Sakura" and "Shaolan (sp?)". Sakura is a princess and she has a brother (King?) named "Touya". Touya has a friend named "Yukito" too. The world setting is totally different, but characters are from "Cardcaptor Sakura". The other interesting thing is, CLAMP is doing a different series at "Weekly Young Magazine" called "XXX Holic". Those two transported through a dimension and appeared in "XXX Holic". The two mangas are connected and go simultaneously (I think).  See the cover of issue #25 (in stores now in Japan!) below:

Q: Is Cardcaptors the movie 2 going to be released in U.S? When? In English? And is the distributor of the English version going to complete the series that was originally aired on WB?

A: This question comes up quite frequently.

So far there's been no announcement of when or if the second Card Captor Sakura movie will be released in America; however, the chances of an American release are probably pretty strong. The final Card Captor Sakura TV episode was broadcast on Japanese television on March 21, 2000. The second movie, Fuuin Sareta Card, was released to Japanese theaters nearly 4 months later, on July 15th. The second movie was a continuation of the TV series storyline, and marked the conclusion of the Card Captor Sakura animation. Since the second movie is set after the end of the 70 episode TV series, Pioneer may be planning to release the second movie some time after the final TV series DVD is released in America. After all, it would make sense to finish the TV series before jumping ahead in the story to the ending movie.

There are no plans for more dubbed Cardcaptors episodes. When the show was canceled by Warner Bros., Nelvana Studios ceased dubbing new episodes. Considering that Pioneer never produced any dubbed Card Captor Sakura TV episodes themselves, and the dubs have been acknowledged as selling fewer copies than the uncut subtitled only DVDs, financially there's very little reason for Pioneer to commission or release new dubbed Cardcaptors episodes.

On ebay, someone was illegally using one of my wallpapers that I made to make himself some money. He changed the image in the auction itself last night, but the thumbnail used in the listings still has my wallpaper.
See the image below:

I sent him an email asking politely to remove the image and use the image of the cover of the VHS instead, since that's what he's suppose to be selling in the first place. Here is the reply I got from the seller copied word for word:

"You are a CRYBABY I will send you some tissue by e-mail. I do this because I want to, not because you ask me to. And by the way your website SUCKS."

His email address is HayatoNB@cs.com. Can anybody say looser? If my site was so bad, then why use a wallpaper from it in an ebay auction? Please, no one buy anything from ebay seller nathanken. He doesn't deserve our money.

Special thanks to my friend DARLONIEL for this information:

On February 28, 2003, during Cartoon Cartoon Fridays (CCF), which airs every Friday night on Cartoon Network (USA) Cartoon Orbit came out with a new cToon of SAKURA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The new Sakura cToon is called Elated Sakura. You can see it in the Cardcaptors section on the Cartoon Orbit cMart web site. Here's what the Elated Sakura cToon looks like:

The code for this cToon was PIGTAIL, but it doesn't get you an Elated Sakura cToon anymore, you get a Bubbles cToon instead. I've seen a few on the cToon auctions so be sure to go there and look for one. I got a couple on some low bids, but once the news is spread, it may be more difficult to get one, so go check now!

Anime Convention this weekend!
Feb 14 - 16 = Katsucon in Arlington, Virginia, USA. I'm planning to be there on Saturday, weather permitting. We're expecting a bad ice/snow storm this weekend. Darn It! Who let the Snow Card loose again?! They're Clow Cards, not playing cards! What? Windy, Cloud, Rain, and Thunder are also missing? Stop the presses! Somebody call Sakura right away, we've got some work to do. Everyone in the Washington DC area, please be careful this weekend.

Special message from Sakura kura (AKA Princess of the Forest): On February 8th, Teletoon showed repeats! They showed the one where Sakura transformed the first Star Card what was that? I forget you know what I speak of where there was the water pipes and then she realized she had to use a different incantation and the new Firey Star Card is born. It was beautiful, the episode where Li is controlled by strings, I can't remember, but I swear before it on kids WB, but this time they allowed more stuff to be seen. I'm sorry I can't remember there names.

My response to her email: Hi! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! BIG HUGS! Well it sounds like Teletoon finally got smart and decided to air the Star Cards Season in the correct order this time. If I remember correctly *looks back at the International Page* they kept flip-flopping back an forth between the two seasons the first go around. I was surprised myself when Teletoon mentions "All New Episodes" when they had already aired all 70 of them. I wonder if they meant to say "at an all new time" or something instead. Thank you again!

THIS IS ONLY A RUMOR AND NOT A FACT!!!!
RCCSM reported the following: "Rumors said that there'll be another Card Captor Sakura production. Well, this rumor has been up for a month I think. According to the rumors, the new series will be entitled the Magic One. The story starts with Eriol's cousin, Hibari, who went to Tomoeda School where she'll meet Sakura. Hibari doesn't know anything about the clow cards but she's bound to discover that she has special abilities like Sakura, too."

Michael's Cardcaptors will investigate further.

For those that order CCS/CC/SCC merchandise with a credit card from online companies, or use a credit card through PayPal.com, check to see if you are a JBC cardholder. In a shocking announcement, JCB Bank has decided that they are discontinuing their consumer credit card program as of 2/1/03. In an effort to inform people, they have shipped letters to their customers stating that the cards will be invalid as of 2/1. In order to help make our customers aware of this issue, RightStuf.com will no longer be accepting JCB as a form of payment for our online store as of Monday 1/27/03.

For those attending the Anime Convention Katsucon in Baltimore, Maryland USA on February 14-16, 2003, I have some great news! I emailed TOKYOPOP about it and got the following response:

Hello there, Michael.

We will definitely have a presence at Katsucon in some form, whether it be TOKYOPOP anime screenings, giveaways or sponsored activities. At this point, we will not have a booth at the show, but should have a retail representative selling our products.

Hope this helps, and glad to hear you enjoy TOKYOPOP products.

Cheers,
Team TOKYOPOP!

Important news that affects the Internet usage of copyrighted material: The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear a case in which Ty Inc., makers of Beanie Babies, had sued Publications International for the use of images of Beanie Babies in its collector guides, including For the Love of Beanie Babies. The effect of the refusal to hear the case was that the lower court's ruling that the publications were not an infringement on Ty's copyrights stands. Collector guides in many hobbies have used images of copyrighted properties under the "fair use" doctrine in the past; this ruling means that they can continue to do so. YEAH!!!

Do not order from AnotherUniverse.com. They do sell CCS merchandise, but there's no guarantee you'll get what you order! They overcharge, double and triple charge, do not answer emails, do not answer phone calls, and you can forget about refunds. I've personally had several bad experiences with them, and it appears I'm not alone. According to ICV2.com, a new site at http://www.anotheruniversesucks.org/ is a place where people vent their frustrations about Another Universe.

THIS IS ONLY A RUMOR AND NOT A FACT!!!!
There has been a small bit of speculation that Pioneer will release the 2nd Cardcaptor Sakura movie on DVD, ONLY after they finish releasing the entire series, which probably won't be until the end of the year. According to an email response I received from Pioneer, they don't know anything about it at this time. It's possible they are still in negotiations on the rights for a USA release, or they want to keep it a secret for a while. Either way, keep checking back here for future updates. I do the investigating and research myself. If anyone attends an Anime Convention, be on the look out for Pioneer Animation representatives either in the dealer's room or talking in a panel. They might have first-hand knowledge on the subject that won't appear on the web site for a long while. Email me if you find out anything from those Pioneer personnel.
