This is cool. I just stumbled across this and its really neat. Clow Connection has created a CCS Search.
You can add your site to it and search for other CCS sites as well! Cool huh?

December 23, 2002

You may know this, but Animenation is offering Web-Based Anime Email!
$4.95 a month gives you:

"POP access from any email client.
10 megs of storage space.
Auto-forwarding to any other account.
Popup-free service, no annoying popup ads!
Privacy guarantee. We do not share or sell your email address like other large services."

I checked and they don't seem to have anything CCS/CC related, but fans of many other Animes including Sailor Moon, Gundam Wing, and others have something to choose from. Click here for more details and a list of the domains they have to offer. Could be a cool Christmas present for someone.

Thanks to an email from my friend Anna in Ireland, I just found out that Cardcaptors the Movie will be shown on Irish TV New Year's Day!!!!

This is the first movie. There is still no data about any company having the rights to dub the second movie in English, so right now the 2nd movie is only available in Japanese with subtitles. I bought my copy on ebay.

December 18, 2002

On Yahoo (auctions) Japan, the most expensive anime cel I've ever seen was sold for 276,500 yen! Converted to US Dollars, that's $2,282.40!!!! The cel was Sakura in the pink dress from the original 1st season opening. It was a close-up of Sakura from the shoulders up and covered most of the cel. Kero was there too. WOW!

This may be old news to you, but ADV Films announced the creation of The Anime Network™, the first television channel in North America dedicated to anime (Japanese animation) and anime-related content. Could Cardcaptor Sakura appear on a new Anime Network? Well the problem may lie in that Pioneer has the rights to the subtitled version of the series, and not ADV Films. It's a wait and see period now. See the Press Release. You can email ADV Films by clicking here and ask them to add Cardcaptor Sakura to the lineup for their new Anime Network.

The Rights to Cardcaptors?
Very interesting, this post is from Sakura Heart by reporter Storm2004:
"As of the current time WB and Cartoon Network has no more rights to Cardcaptor Sakura. It has been said that CLAMP has taken away any and all rights to the show because of how much it changed from the original story."

This is untrue. First of all she says, "It has been said..." Who said that? First clue of a rumor and not a fact. Second, no sources were quoted from her post, so there is no way anyone can take the above statement as true. Third, where's the press release from CLAMP, WB, Nelvana, or Cartoon Network about this? Anyone? Here's the facts: KidsWB, part of the WB, still has the rights to air Cardcaptors in the USA. They just choose not to air it. Until the contract expires which gives them exclusive rights to do so, then another network can the series. KidsWB could choose to sell the rights to another network, but that hasn't happened either. At this time, I do not know when the contract expires as those details are always a secret and pretty much never shared with the public.

VHS going away? First Pioneer with Cardcaptors VHS, now TokoyoPOP and BanDai with their titles as well:

Last January, Tokyopop announced they were going DVD only and dropped all VHS production on titles except for their Vampire Princess Miyu and GTO series (GTO was actually brought back after multitudes of fan requests). Now the company has officially announced that they are calling it quits with VHS and has stated that they have canceled all GTO volumes after VHS Volume 5: Betrayal (ironic isn't it?).

Bandai kills Gundam VHS
Bandai has announced that they are discontinuing their VHS releases of most of their Gundam titles including Gundam Wing, Gundam 0083, Gundam 0080, Gundam MS 08th, the Gundam Movies, and First Gundam.

I just got the Art of Cardcaptor Sakura Volume 1, made by TOKOYOPOP, from Amazon.com yesterday, so those that pre-ordered the book should be getting it soon. Also, I had the chance to meet Joel Baral recently. Joel is the Brand Manager and Executive Producer in Los Angeles, CA for TOKOYOPOP. He informed me that he wants to hear from the fans of CCS and CC, especially whether we like the new Art of Cardcaptor Sakura book that was just released. The book is fairly large and full of color manga images. Those that can't afford to buy the expensive Japanese versions will really enjoy this book as it's seems to be pretty similar. To tell Joel how much you love Cardcaptor Sakura, Cardcaptors, and especially the new art book, you can contact him at joelb@usa.tokoyopop.com. This is a courtesy from Joel so please be professional and send friendly emails. If you are not a fan of Cardcaptors, then don't tell him you hate the show, instead tell him how much you love Cardcaptor Sakura and to produce more CCS products. He doesn't want any negative emails, none of us do, so please keep everything positive. Thanks.
So do I like the new art book? I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are many images in there I've never seen before!

August 6, 2002

Checking up on Pioneer Animation's "Coming Attractions" page, there are no Cardcaptors videos scheduled for the rest of the year, but two Cardcaptor Sakura ones called "Trust" (release date Sept 10, 2002) and "Final Judgement" (release date Nov 12, 2002) are coming. Yes I know Judgement should be Judgment but that's how Pioneer spelled it.

Please remember to email Pioneer Animation and ask them not to cancel Cardcaptors videos. The following is from the July 1, 2002 posting on this page:

****************************************************************
*** NOTE: Message Received from animemaster@pioneer-usa.com
on Mon, 1 Jul 2002 09:42 AM ***

The decision to cancel Cardcaptors will stand for now, however it is not impossible that it may continue in the future. That is up to our producers to decide. An official statement about the Cardcaptors future will probably be made at this week's Anime Expo at the Long Beach Convention Center.

Animemaster

Actually, no OFFICIAL word was ever released about Pioneer canceling Cardcaptors videos so we can only pray, and email them a lot showing our support!!

According to a press release Tokyopop has selected Client Distribution Services (CDS) as their exclusive distributor to the American book trade (Independant and chain bookstores, not comic stores). So what does this mean for comic shops? Well most order from Diamond Comics anyway so it depends on whether they continue to get TokyoPop merchandise or not. It's a wait and see game now.

(on Cartoon Network's Cartoon Orbit) are virtual trading cards that you can collect, display, and trade online. Best of all, they show some of your favorite Kids WB cartoons, like some of these.

Sakura Avalon - Sold Out
Li Showron - Sold Out
Meilin Rae - 63
Kero - Sold Out
Kooky Kero- Sold Out
Clow Book- 41
Schoolgirl Sakura - 32
High-Kicking Meilin - 30

To the right, you'll see the status of the cToon. The numbers represent the amount of points needed to purchase the cToons. Also, there are pictures attached to this e-mail. Now you may update your cToons page, if you want.

Ok for those wondering, my Cartoon Orbit name is Hokey Draw Diddly and my cZone is in NETWORLD. It's nothing fancy though as I haven't had time to do anything with it in months. I have 50 cToons not included on the already filled up page. Take a look and tell me what you think.

I emailed my local WB station many times about wanting Cardcaptors to return.
Here's an email I received today from WBDC 50 out of Washington DC:

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your feedback and as of right now we will not be airing Cardcaptors. Pending on the network, we maybe airing it as a special.

Thanks for watching WBkids

I sent a response thanking her for the information and responding to my email. Here's the reply I got (Tue, 2 Jul 2002 14:48:04):

Anytime Michael,

Please don't hesitate to email/phone me for future update or to just check in if we are going to be airing the Cardcaptors.  The network does change their schedule around to reach all of their fans of different cartoons.

Have a fun/safe Fourth of July

I sent the data collected (emails I received) on the cancellation of Cardcaptors videos by Pioneer to several online anime news sites. It's important data that the fans should know. Here's what has happened:

I sent another email to Pioneer Animation this morning asking to not cancel the Cardcaptors Videos. Here's the response I got:

The decision to cancel Cardcaptors will stand for now, however it is not impossible that it may continue in the future. That is up to our producers to decide. An official statement about the Cardcaptors future will probably be made at this week's Anime Expo at the Long Beach Convention Center.

Animemaster

If anyone will be at the Anime Expo convention held at Long Beach Convention Center, Hyatt Regency Hotel, Westin Hotel, and Renaissance Hotel, Long Beach, California, July 4th-7th, 2002, please find the Pioneer Animation Booth and ask about the future of Cardcaptors Videos/DVDs. If Pioneer holds a press conference, please attend and document what they say. If they distributes flyers, please pick one up. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

"According to information direct from Pioneer, Cardcaptors Vol. #10: Toying Around for VHS and DVD has been canceled. This is the dub-only version of the series as broadcast on US and Canadian TV. No information on whether it will be re-solicited later or if this is the end of that particular version of the series."

Send emails to feedback@pioneeranimation.com and animemaster@pioneer-usa.com asking them to continue to produce Cardcaptors videos. Since KidsWB isn't showing the series anymore, all we have is the videos! I ask you to please email them now!!! I have done so already and will continue to do so until I hear any other news.

Thank you for your interest in Cardcaptors. Our producers have chosen not to disclose the details of the cancelation at this time. Perhaps at next week's Anime Expo at the Long Beach Convention Center they will enlighten the public. Future continuation of the series is always a possibility.

Based on research conducted for the last 5 months, Cardcaptors merchandise did not appear at Toy Fair 2002 in New York. Furthermore, since Trendmasters has cancelled making Cardcaptors, no other company has picked up the line to make products for US distribution. The only products that make their way to US sellers now, in limited supply, is from SandyLion based in Canada, which are mainly stickers.

Cardcaptorz.com is considering closing the site down due to lack of funds. This site turned me down several times to be an affiliate, but I think it's important to help out other fan sites whenever possible, except for sending money. The question I have is, with all the free web space service providers out there, such as Geocities, Fortune City, Anglefire, Tripod, Crosswinds, and Dreamwater to name a few, why does she feel she has to "pay money" to have a web site? Why put yourself into a situation where you are forced to ask the fans to "pay up or the site goes away?" It's just my opinion, but that doesn't make too much sense to me. Here's a link to the 100 Best Free Web Space Service Providers. You can check out how much space each one provides, strengths, weaknesses, what type of advertising they do (they have to pay for the service somehow), etc.

May 28 - June 11, 2002 = Emails between myself and Nelvana

May 28th Email from Michael:
KidsWB has refused to air Cardcaptors from now on. Who should I contact about Cardcaptors airing in the United States? Cardcaptors is my all-time favorite show ever. They have completely changed their web site and removed all Cardcaptors sites and references. I am so mad and very upset with them. Who should I get a hold of about another network, such as Cartoon Network, picking up my favorite show? I may be a 26-year-old male, but I love the show and I want to see it again on television. KidsWB never "officially" cancelled the Cardcaptors. I've read every Press Release they ever put out. Does KidsWB/WB still have the rights to Cardcaptors? If yes and they refuse to show Cardcaptors again, can you force them to sell those rights so another network can pick up my favorite show? I miss Cardcaptors very much down here in the USA. I have many friends who cannot afford to buy Cardcaptors tapes from the video stores so all they have is television. Is there anything you can do? Please send me a list of contacts and I'll email them personally. Please forward this email to the proper hands so we can have Cardcaptors on TV in the US again. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

June 6th reply from Nelvana Webmaster:

WBKids has a contract for exclusive rights to air Cardcaptors in the US. We can not dictate if and when they air it. You need to take this issue up with WB. We have no say and can be of no help in your crusade. Good Luck!!

Monday June 10th email from Michael:
Hello. By any chance do you happen to know and can tell me how long the contract is with KidsWB to have exclusive rights to Cardcaptors in the US? Since KidsWB isn't showing Cardcaptors anymore, and has removed all characters, references, and pages from their web site, can another network buy those rights or are we stuck with KidsWB and have to wait on them? Based on KidsWB web site changes, many fans feel they have totally cancelled the series, but according to your last email, they have exclusive rights to air Cardcaptors. I've constantly emailed them everyday for the past 6 months and will continue to do so. I know Nelvana owns 20% of Teletoon and Canadian Cardcaptorsans are so lucky to see Cardcaptors everyday, but do you have any influence to push Cardcaptors in America? There are so many episodes we've never seen and I loved how you dubbed the show. Can you please help me? Thank you for your time and efforts.

Monday June 10th Reply from Nelvana Webmaster:

I'm unable to divulge any contract information. Nor do I have any pull as to airing Cardcaptors in the US. And just so you have accurate information - Nelvana doesn't own 20% of Teletoon. We are both owned by the same company Corus Entertainment http://www.corusent.com. Corus also owns a number of other television station and radio stations. However, we all operate as separate companies and Nelvana can not tell Teletoon if and when to air Cardcaptors. They have the same contract guidelines as any other company.

June 11th email from Michael:
Thank you for the clarification. The only reason I mentioned Nelvana owning 20% of Teletoon is because I got my information from Teletoon's web site at: http://www.teletoon.com/Interactive/FAQ/FAQ_En.shtml#1.1 where it says this. My apologies as I was unaware this information was not correct. I understand about not being able to divulge contract information. Please forgive me for asking about that. I'm just a huge fan of Cardcaptors and am trying all I can to get the show back on US television. I don't think at this point it matters what station carries Cardcaptors, I just want to see it again. But if KidsWB has exclusive rights to the series, then we can only deal with them I suppose. I'll keep emailing them. Many of my friends cannot afford to buy VHS tapes so all they have its what's on TV. If I'm not trying to get Cardcaptors back on US television for myself, then I'm doing it for them. Thank you for all your help and support.

Answer from Project Neko for May 28 question posting:

As far as I know, WB does still gave the rights to Cardcaptors and is still showing it. They also still on the distribution to the dubbed Cardcaptors DVDs and videos. I heard that Cartoon Network was going to pick it up sometime this summer along with Sailor Moon. Thanx.
http://www.projectneko.com

Wouldn't that be cool if Cartoon Network picked Cardcaptors up. Based on the research I've done up to today, there has been no other information about Cartoon Network picking up the series. So right now, what's posted above from Project Neko is only a rumor and should not be spread as such. We can only pray and email!

May 28, 2002

This is a copy of the email I sent to various web sites that specialize in Anime News: Kids WB has completely "re-vamped" their web site, added new shows and deleted others, particularly Cardcaptors. Kids WB never "officially" canceled Cardcaptors in any press release they put out, yet looking at their web site, it appears they canceled the show after all. Do you have any news about Cardcaptors? Does Kids WB still have the rights to the show? Can another network pick up Cardcaptors? Any help would be greatly appreciated. (As you can see, they aren't much help at all.)

Answer from Anime on DVD:
Hi! Sorry, I don't have any information on it. I haven't followed its TV run at all.

Kids WB has completely "re-vamped" their web site. They have removed all characters, sites, and references to Cardcaptors completely. What a sad day this is. The new email link on their page in on the bottom left. I guess it's time now to start emailing Kids WB, local WB stations, Cartoon Network, Nelvana, Fox Kids, Fox Family Channel, ABC Family Channel, etc.. Someone has to pick up the show in the United States if Kids WB has dropped it totally. There was never a Press Release or an "official word" that Cardcaptors has been canceled. The only thing I ever read was that Cardcaptors was on hiatus and was being saved as a mid-season replacement if another show failed in the ratings, but that was from an unofficial source.

Looks like Tokyopop is running to catch up with their enthusiastic production schedule for the year. They've pushed back a number of their graphic novels and announced that the newest saga of the Cardcaptor manga has been renamed to Cardcaptor Sakura: Master of the Clow. This graphic novel will be available August 13 2002.

Nelvana, the Toronto-based animation house, which recently acquired rights to the Japanese toy and anime sensation Beyblades, has just signed a three-year deal to develop children's programming with Kodansha, one of Japan's most important publishers. Under the deal Nelvana will get a "first look" at all Kodansha projects for either co-production or distribution outside Asia. Nelvana will also co-produce at least one Kodansha property during the term of the agreement and receives the rights to distribute Kodansha's "Naughty Monty" series in English language territories.

This agreement basically cements a relationship that already has deep roots. Kodansha and Nelvana have co-produced the Babar's Adventures cartoon series, while Nelvana has previously acquired the rights to key Kodansha properties such as Cardcaptors (Cardcaptor Sakura) and Medabots. Since Kodansha is such a key manga publisher in Japan, the agreement makes perfect sense for Nelvana. Kodansha has a huge range of manga titles that run the gamut of genres and demographics from Cardcaptor Sakura to Blade of the Immortal. Nelvana's previous projects have been confined to children's programming. As the anime audience grows and skews older will Nelvana consider series that play to anything other than a kiddie audience?

June 17, 2002 is going to be a Monday

Now if the email said June 15th, then there would be something to talk about.

April 2, 2002

Teletoon removed the information about The Cardcaptors Movie airing in April. Further checking of the web site did not reveal any details about the movie's air time in April or May. Other fan sites have mentioned many different air dates including April 6th, 7th, 16th, and 17th. Right now it's a wait and see. I checked Teletoon's Monthly Listing for April and the Cardcaptors Movie wasn't listed. Is it possible it will air in April or May and the web site is just not up-to-date? Yes it's possible but not definite.

From MSNBC, a quote from a news article states the following, "Microsoft submitted information on an encryption language called Kerberos to an industry standards body two weeks ago, he said. The network authentication protocol is designed to prevent unauthorized users from tapping into client-server applications." The name of the encryption language is very similar to a character from Cardcaptors, don't you think?

I just got off the phone from the owners of the web site "All That Stuff" who carry a large supply of party supplies. As my site reported back in December, they were suppose to get Cardcaptors party supplies in March. However they told me that they won't be coming in. Here's the information I received about why:

Hallmark has or had the rights to make Cardcaptors Party supplies. They did a test market in Kansas and the products didn't sell well, so Hallmark cancelled them. So what does this mean? "All That Stuff" did say that sometimes other manufactures have the rights to make wrapping paper, greeting cards, and other items. There is hope, but it's a slim one.

KIDS’ WB! ANNOUNCES “YEAR-ROUND” PROGRAMMING STRATEGY

2002-2003 SEASON INCLUDES “WHAT’S NEW SCOOBY-DOO?” ALL-NEW ANIMATED SERIES AND ORIGINAL BUDDY-COP COMEDY “OZZY & DRIX” ON SATURDAY MORNINGS

All-New Episodes Of Returning Hits “POKÉMON: MASTER QUEST,” “JACKIE CHAN ADVENTURES,” “X-MEN: EVOLUTION,” “THE MUMMY: SECRETS OF THE MEDJAI” And “CUBIX” Highlight Saturday Slate

“X-MEN: EVOLUTION” Joins “JACKIE CHAN ADVENTURES,” “POKÉMON,” “RESCUE HEROES: GLOBAL RESPONSE TEAM” And Classic “SCOOBY-DOO” Series On Weekday Line-Up

NETWORK ROLLS OUT 12-MONTH PROGRAMMING CAMPAIGN BEGINNING SUMMER 2002

New Summer Schedule Sizzles With Original “¡MUCHA LUCHA!,” “THE POWERPUFF GIRLS” And “PHANTOM INVESTIGATORS”

NEW YORK, NY (March 13, 2002) — Kids' WB!, the #1 broadcast network for kids, will add five new animated series to its top-rated Saturday morning and weekday slates and introduce a “year-round” schedule that will offer fresh new programming, beginning this Summer and leading into the 2002-2003 television season. The schedule was announced today by Donna Friedman, Executive Vice President, Kids' WB!, speaking to advertisers and media at the first joint Kids’ WB! and Cartoon Network annual upfront sales presentations in New York.

“As the dominant broadcaster in kids’ television for the past three seasons, Kids’ WB! has clearly connected with kids in a powerful way,” said Ms. Friedman. “While most of the other networks are getting out of the kids’ business, we are committed to continuing to deliver what kids have come to want and expect from Kids’ WB! – the highest quality hit shows — six days a week.”

Hot off its 8th consecutive sweeps victory as the #1 Saturday morning broadcast network, Kids' WB! has maintained its leadership position this season by delivering quality programs to its core target demographic of Kids 6-11. The network has strengthened and solidified its creative position and dominance in the industry with the network’s branded key elements: high-adventure, humor and heart; compelling storylines; and kid-relatable characters.

In 4th Quarter 2001, Kids’ WB! dominated as the #1 broadcast and cable network in the key demographic of Boys 6-11 and finished #1 among the broadcast competition in Kids 2-11, Kids 6-11 and Boys 2-11 for the third consecutive year. For the quarter, Pokémon: Johto League Champions captured the #1 Saturday morning program spot among all competition, including cable, in Boys 2-11 and Boys 6-11. The network led the broadcast and cable competition with six of the top 10 programs in Boys 6-11 and six of the top 10 broadcast programs in Kids 2-11, including Pokémon: Johto League Champions, X-Men: Evolution, Jackie Chan Adventures, The Mummy, The Nightmare Room and Yu-Gi-Oh!

Season-to-date, Kids' WB! captures all broadcast and cable competition in Boys 6-11 with the top three programs and leads as the #1 broadcast network among Kids 2-11, Kids 6-11 and Boys 2-11. Pokémon: Johto League Champions ranks as the #1 program among all Saturday morning competition, including cable, in Boys 6-11 and Boys 2-11 (tied with Nickelodeon) and ranks as the #1 broadcast program among Kids 2-11 and Kids 6-11. Among Kids 2-11, Kids' WB! takes seven out of the top 10 programs among the broadcast competition, including X-Men: Evolution (#2), Jackie Chan Adventures (#3), The Mummy (#4), The Nightmare Room (#5), Static Shock (#7) and Yu-Gi-Oh! (#10). The network also dominates in the key demographics of Kids 6-11, Boys 2-11 and Boys 6-11 with seven of the top 10 broadcast programs.

As the #1 choice for kids, Kids’ WB! continues to reinvent itself and will build upon its powerful 14-hour Monday-Saturday slate by rolling out an “all-new all-year” 12-month schedule. The aggressive campaign will include more than 150 original half-hours with more to be picked up later this year.

In Fall 2002, Kids’ WB!’s Saturday morning schedule welcomes the world’s most famous cowardly canine and his mystery-solving gang with the original What’s New Scooby-Doo? animated series and the comedy caper Ozzy & Drix, featuring the hilarious bod squad duo who give kids – literally – a microscopic view inside adolescence. The new Saturday line-up also will be highlighted by 52 episodes of the next evolution of the top-rated franchise, Pokémon: Master Quest, and more adventures of the returning hits: Jackie Chan Adventures; X-Men: Evolution and The Mummy: Secrets of the Medjai.

In addition to these recently-announced new season pick-ups, the network has ordered 13 episodes of the stunning 3D-CGI animated series Cubix. The second season of Cubix will introduce new robots and adventures as Connor, Cubix and the gang team up to be the best Botties in Bubble Town – and to take on a new mission: to stop the evil Dr. K from overthrowing the city with his nefarious plans…and most powerful creation. The series is a futuristic story of action, adventure and uncommon friendship.

Building on its #1 weekday line-up, Kids’ WB!’s Monday-Friday slate will be highlighted by the high-adventure hit series X-Men: Evolution as the teen mutants struggle to understand their place in the world. The line-up also will include more action-comedy and adventure with Jackie Chan Adventures, Pokémon, Rescue Heroes: Global Response Team and the classic Scooby-Doo series.

The new Fall series joining the 2002-2003 schedule include:

WHAT’S NEW SCOOBY-DOO? will bring the meddling kids to the 21st Century as everyone’s favorite Great Dane and his intrepid cohorts – Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Fred – continue to stumble upon creature-related comedy mysteries. The series will stay true to the classic elements that have made Scooby one of the most beloved shows for more than 30 years, while amping up the suspense, comedy and quality of animation. This comedy from Warner Bros. Animation will feature the timeless and loveable Scooby gang in 13 adventures set in a contemporary world. Kids’ WB! is proud to announce the return of original cast members Casey Kasem and Frank Welker as their alter egos, Shaggy and Fred.

OZZY & DRIX,based on the breakout characters from the feature film “Osmosis Jones,” is an animated inner-body buddy-cop comedy which follows the adventures of white blood cell cop Ozzy and his partner, over-the-counter cold pill Drix, as they defend the City of Hector – the body of a 13-year-old boy. In 13 grossly-funny episodes, Ozzy and Drix will investigate and combat – from the inside – the adolescent viruses of zits, body odor, allergies…and the melodrama that unfolds when a simple soar throat causes a “phlegm”-alanche in the City of Hector.

In the network’s most powerful Summer slate to-date, Kids’ WB! will sizzle with the original Latin-flavored irreverent comedy ¡Mucha Lucha!, which follows three determined kids as they wrestle through their bizarre world – where Mexican masked wrestling is a way of life. The network’s Saturday morning and weekday schedules will “feel the girl-power” when the Emmy Award-winning feisty Powerpuff Girls make their broadcast television debut with all-new episodes and more high-adventure comedy – six days a week – on Kids’ WB! Also joining the line-up is the groundbreaking stop-motion animated series Phantom Investigators, featuring the coolest kid private investigators of paranormal phenomena in town. In addition, the Summer schedule will include second season adventures of the returning favorites Static Shock and The Zeta Project.

Kids’ WB! also announced today the popular animé series Yu-Gi-Oh! will go to strip, airing six days a week Monday-Saturday, beginning April 1, 2002. The program, based on the Japanese hit comic book series, will continue to bring to life awesome monsters, fantastical settings and ancient Egyptian legends…the game is on!

The new series to debut in the Summer 2002 schedule is:

¡MUCHA LUCHA! is an over-the-top comedy-adventure about honor, family, tradition…and donuts. The series explores the Latino cultural phenomenon known as “Lucha Libre.” In a world where no one removes their colorful mask ever and success depends on having a “signature move,” three mascaritas — Rikochet, Buena Girl and The Flea — study and live the “Code of Masked Wrestling.” This bold comedy combines irreverent humor and visually dynamic fantasy-action in two fast-paced 11-minute episodes and is the first-ever all-flash animated series on broadcast television.

Part of an Email I sent to Trendmasters on 02/15/02:
I'm having difficulty finding some of your Cardcaptors products. I hope they weren't discontinued or anything. I went to your web site, but I couldn't find anything helpful on Cardcaptors merchandise so I'm emailing you. I've heard of several items but never saw them so I'm interested in what's available now and for the following year. Do you have a list of what's available so I know what to look for, and a list of who's selling your Cardcaptors products? Also can we buy from you in bulk? Do you have an order catalog? I'm interesting in ordering many Cardcaptors items in cases if available.

Response from Trendmasters:
Because our minimum order is $10,000, small retail stores prefer to purchase product from a distributor. Below are distributors that carry our products:
Midwest - MW Kasch - 262-242-5000
New York - Shepher - 718-649-2525
However, if you are planning to order over the amount listed, please call 1-800-648-2250 and ask for our sales department. If your order will be over this amount, then we can put you in touch with our Sales Department. As far as where to buy Cardcaptors items via retailer, you may want to try close-out stores in your area, since these are discontinued.

Sincerely,
Vikki @Trendmasters (Vdavis@trendmasters.com)

Report from AnimeNation

TOKYOPOP Licensing Correction - Last week the AnimeNation News reported that TOKYOPOP would be translating the Japanese Card Captor Sakura Cheerio! illustration book as the domestic "Art of Card Captor Sakura." AnimeNation was informed by a TOKYOPOP spokesperson that this is incorrect. TOKYOPOP will be reprinting the first volume of the Japanese Card Captor Sakura Illustration Collections full of original illustration art by CLAMP as the American Art of Card Captor Sakura.

Report sent in by Ramachandran (Revathy)

I stay in Bangalore, India and I only get Cartoon Network here. I don't think I get Kids WB or Teletoon here. Cartoon Network started airing Cardcaptors from the beginning of the series and not from Sakura's Rival. It came every Sunday night from 9:00 to 10:00 at nights and at 6:30 which was the repeat till the end of season 1 which was the third element. After which it came only at 6:30. I guess after the repeats [6:30] are over on April 27 the new season might start. Cardcaptors has been coming in the original order with no cuts  here in English. Cardcaptors is coming on the Toonami section at present. --Thank you for your most valuable information, Michael

BURBANK, CA (February 11, 2002) -- Kids' WB! has committed to new season pick-ups for the next installment of POKÉMON: MASTER QUEST and the hit series JACKIE CHAN ADVENTURES, X-MEN: EVOLUTION, THE MUMMY: SECRETS OF THE MEDJAI and RESCUE HEROES: GLOBAL RESPONSE TEAM for the 2002-2003 season. This announcement was made today by Donna Friedman, Executive Vice President, Kids' WB!

"Kids' WB! is proud to be partnered with the best talent in the kids' business to produce the highest quality hit shows for kids," said Ms. Friedman. "I'm thrilled to announce the pick-up of five series which have become the cornerstones of Kids' WB! #1 line-up."

The network continues to dominate as a market leader in kids' television and has maintained its top-rated position this season as the #1 broadcast network in key demographics and #1 overall in Boys 6-11. Season-to-date, Pokémon: Johto League Champions, Jackie Chan Adventures, X-Men: Evolution and The Mummy have consistently dominated their Saturday morning time periods, ranking among the top 10 broadcast and cable programs. Leading all competition in the key demographic of Boys 6-11, these programs outperform the broadcast competition among Kids 2-11, Kids 6-11 and Boys 2-11.

In the highly-competitive 4th Quarter of 2001, when most of the kids' advertising revenue is spent, Kids' WB! dominated the broadcast competition in every half-hour it programmed with eight time period wins among Kids 6-11, Boys 2-11 and Boys 6-11, and won seven of eight half-hours among Kids 2-11. In addition, the network led the Saturday morning broadcast competition with seven of the top 10 programs in Kids 6-11, Boys 2-11 and Boys 6-11, and took six of the top 10 broadcast program spots in Kids 2-11.

With a highly successful original programming line-up, strategic scheduling and aggressive research, Kids' WB! has set precedent with its diverse and innovative schedule, featuring the network's hallmark ingredients: high-adventure, humor and heart; compelling storylines; and kid relatable characters for boys and girls. The series picked up for new seasons for the 2002-2003 schedule include:

Beginning its fifth season, 52 all-new episodes of Pokémon: Master Quest will highlight Kids' WB!, airing six days a week. From 4Kids Productions, Inc., the next installment of the top-rated franchise follows Ash and the gang as they continue their adventures through different, exotic lands as they strive to be the ultimate trainers ñ meeting new friends, facing peril and danger along the way...and always, looking to catch more Pokémon.

Jackie Chan and the smash-hit series Jackie Chan Adventures return for a third season of 13 exciting episodes and a new mission as Jackie and his feisty 11-year-old niece, Jade, must locate the immortal animals from the Chinese zodiac that now possess the mystical powers of the magical talismans from first season -- before the dark chi wizard upsets the balance of good and evil in the world. The series, from Sony Pictures Family Entertainment, will bring more comedy-action-adventures six days a week.

X-Men: Evolution introduces new characters and explores new relationships as they enter into a third season with 13 all-original episodes. As the teenage mutants use their powers to protect the world from evil, they also try to maintain some normalcy in their lives...discovering first loves, forbidden friendships and a struggle to control the legacy of the X-Men. The series, produced by Marvel Studios in association with Film Roman, delves deep into the rich, intriguing mythology of the X-Men world.

Based on the blockbuster-hit feature film franchise, the legend continues in The Mummy: Secrets of the Medjai as 11-year-old Alex O'Connell, and his parents Rick and Evy, embark on a new quest this season ñ to return the Mummy to the underworld, while uncovering the truth about their past, facing treacherous new villains and learning Alex's destiny... Produced by Universal Home Entertainment Productions, the series is set in the 1930s and combines exotic locations with a contemporary attitude in 13 new high-adventure, comedy-filled episodes.

The all-original animated series Rescue Heroes: Global Response Team brings 13 new adrenaline-pumping episodes. Spoken Languages: English, Japanese, English subtitles.
86 Minutes

While a good amount of information has come out regarding the two upcoming versions of the first Cardcaptor Sakura movie, we got a bit more clarification on the uncut version that I had been looking for. So let's run down the two:

Cardcaptors The Movie Cardcaptor Sakura The Movie
4:3 Pan & Scan 16:9 Anamorphic Widescreen
English 2.0 Soundtrack English 2.0 Soundtrack, English 5.1 Soundtrack, Japanese 2.0 Soundtrack, Japanese 5.1 Soundtrack
Extras: Froggy Mix Music Video, and Theatrical Trailer Extras: English / Japanese Trailers and Commercials, alternate angle footage and more

To make things even more interesting, there is no cuts being made to the Cardcaptors dub-only movie. Well, beyond the image being cropped and panned and scanned. The dub on the dub-only disc is the same as the widescreen movie edition. The footage is exactly the same across the two. My guess is that this allows those who don't want to touch the Japanese version can do so by getting what the TV discs are like. But for those who have wanted an uncut dub, this is where you make out the best. The widescreen bilingual disc looks to be the clear winner here.

TokyoPOP reports that in November 2001 Walden Books will have CLAMP displays which will include Clover, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Magic Knight Rayearth. Borders will be having a Sailor Moon display in November and December 2001.

KID RHINO PAIRS UP WITH CARDCAPTOR SAKURA TO CAPTURE THE MAGIC!
Cardcaptors: Music From The Hit TV Series Due September 18
LOS ANGELES - Kid Rhino unleashes the magic with the release of CARDCAPTORS: MUSIC FROM THE HIT TV SERIES. What happens when high fashion, action, romance, and adventure are combined with poppy and trendy new music from a widely popular anime style cartoon? Kid Rhino has the answer in CARDCAPTORS: MUSIC FROM THE HIT TV SERIES. Available on CD with 13 different tracks written specifically for the show, Cardcaptors features pop music for ‘tweens like “Guardian Of The Cards” by Tempest, “Invisible Me” by Pure West, “Ordinary Girl” by Superhum and “I Can Make It” by Magic Carpet. After accidentally letting the cards loose, Sakura must re-capture them to save the world from imminent destruction. Sakura must prove that she can take care of the job by teaming up with fellow Cardcaptor Li Showron and her fuzzy friend Kero, who, together as a team, vie to capture the cards. Throughout the show, the friends face action-filled adventures based on themes of honor, dedication, friendship, and loyalty--all of which are presented in songs written and produced especially for the series. The popular show appeals to girls and boys alike, with its merchandise quickly becoming a hot commodity for teens and ’tweens. In addition to great music, the album also contains an exclusive Cardcaptors collectible game card from Upper Deck. NEW YORK- Today at Toy Fair in Trendmaster's showroom, Nelvana announced the launch of the Cardcaptors Challenge, the new online, interactive game where kids can surf the Web to collect and trade elusive Cardcaptors Clow Cards summoning the power of the Clow with the click of a mouse. The launch is being held at the Trendmasters Showroom located at The Toy Center South, 200 Fifth Avenue, Suite 259 at 5:30 PM. The official Cardcaptors website at www.clowbook.com has been a hot destination for kids and anime fans as a place to find out all about lead character Sakura's adventures, view exclusive clips and enter contests. Now fans can become Cardcaptors themselves in this fun, interactive game. An earlier version of the game was launched in partnership with AOL (U.S.) and Kids WB! as a contest over a three-week period during the holiday season. Available exclusively to AOL/Kids (U.S.) users in partnership with Kids' WB! The contest was enormously successful increasing page views to the site by over 250% and resulting in over 70,000 contest entries. The Grand Prize winner will be flown to Toronto for the opportunity to record a voice to a character in an upcoming Cardcaptors episode. Nelvana's Jay Udow, Vice President Marketing says: ``Bringing Cardcaptors online through Clowbook.com has opened up a wealth of opportunity to bring the brands to a new and expanding marketplace. It brings Sakura into the homes of fans looking for an interactive Cardcaptors experience while at the same time acting as an ideal vehicle for cross-promotion and partnerships as was the case with the recent AOL/Kids WB! A North American Cardcaptors movie release is scheduled for Fall 2001, bringing this highly successful property to a larger audience.

DATE: July 19, 2000

TORONTO, July 19 /CNW/ - NELVANA Limited (TSE: NTV and NASDAQ: NELV)
today announced that its Japanese anime series, Cardcaptors, has garnered solid ratings and critical acclaim after just four weeks on Kids' WB! The series has also captured the interest of North American merchandise licensing companies, including Trendmasters, which this month signed up as the property's master toy licensee. Cardcaptors makes its Canadian television debut on Teletoon in late August.
Cardcaptors, produced for Nelvana by Japan's Kodansha, premiered on the Kids' WB! on Saturday, June 17 at 9:30 a.m. (ET) and has captivated young viewers and delivered strong gains from its Pokemon lead-in at 9 a.m. After four weeks on the air, the show has averaged a 2.8 rating and 13 share among Kids 2-11, according to the Nielsen Television Index (NTI). Among Boys 2-11, Cardcaptors has posted a four-week average 4.0 rating
and 17 share. Cardcaptors is also delivering increasingly strong performances in the all-important Girls 2-11 and Girls 6-11 demos.
Cardcaptors tells a colourful tale of a young girl named Sakura who, along with her friend Li, battles evil with the use of very special tarot-like
cards. Cardcaptors is also attracting North American merchandise licensing companies to the character brand. Nelvana has signed a significant master toy and timepiece licensing agreement with Trendmasters to market plush toys, dolls, collectible figurines, dress-up and role play toys, as well as novelties that include a magic wand and light-up key chains and the Clow Book, which holds the magical cards from which lead character Sakura derives her powers.
Michael Hirsh, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Nelvana, says: "Cardcaptors is one of Nelvana's most promising new properties. Its increasingly strong television performance is driving demand for merchandise and we are optimistic this brand will have substantial marketing legs. We are thrilled with the response to Cardcaptors from potential licensees and promotional partners like Trendmasters."
To date, Nelvana has received a total of 21 commitments from licensees to the property, including Pioneer for home video and DVD, Scholastic for
publishing, Upper Deck for trading cards and Changes for t-shirts. Nelvana's dynamic new Cardcaptors web site can be accessed at
www.clowbook.com or from Nelvana's web site at www.nelvana.com. Fans of the show who register on the web site can watch two-minute sneak previews of upcoming new episodes and learn more about the legendary mythology of the show and its characters.
