Phoenix and Kiro were sitting in Phoenix's room talking about the capture that she had made earlier that day over cookies and milk.
"I can't believe I had to fight the Loop card all by myself! Phoenix said. "I wish you had been there too, Kiro."
"I knew that you would do great!" Kiro said, shoving another cookie into his mouth.
"I was kind of scared, but I knew that the Loop Card wouldn't let me leave until I had captured it! I was really lucky that I wasn't late for my Family Sciences class! I know that Mr. Okaida would have loved to give me detention for being late.” Suddenly for a brief moment Phoenix saw a huge bird flying over a forest. “Huh?” She questioned out loud.
“What?” asked Kiro, his words muffled due to the large amount of cookies that were crammed into his mouth.
“I saw a huge white bird,” Phoenix told him in a puzzled voice. “It looked like it was flying over the forest heading towards the city.”
“Well, it could be the Fly Card, but I don’t sense anything…” Kiro said. Just then he felt the presence of the card he said he couldn’t sense. “Uh-Oh.”
“Kiro,” Phoenix asked. “Did you feel that?”
“Yeah. It felt like the fly card alright. It is quite a ways away, but it is getting closer.”
“It must be over the forest right now, heading towards the city! The sun is still up and it was so big it will be hard to miss! If people spot it, it will be almost impossible for me to catch it without people noticing!” Phoenix exclaimed. “We have to hurry out to the forest reserve and seal it before it gets into the city!”
"How are we going to get all the way out there?" Kiro asked. "The forest reserve is 4 miles away! We'll never get there in time!"
"Well he have to think of something!" Sakura exclaimed. "We don't have any time to spare!"
Phoenix grabbed her backpack and her magical items and put them in her backpack as Kiro flew into her pocket. She raced down the stairs and almost ran smack into her brother.
“Watch where you’re going! I could have dropped my sandwich!” her brother exclaimed.
“Oh, what a tragedy that would have been, especially since we just ate dinner 20 minutes ago,” Phoenix said. “Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going out for a while.”
Her brother laughed and headed into the living room and switched on the sports channel. Just as she reached the door, the doorbell rang. Phoenix opened the door, and was surprised to see who was standing there.
“Grandfather?” She questioned.
“I was wondering if you would ever leave the house,” he said quietly. “We have to leave right away.”
“I know, I sensed it too,” She said pulling on her coat.
“Good, now let’s go. The car is waiting,” her grandfather said.
Li and Phoenix climbed into the old car and drove away. They were in such a hurry to the forest reserve that they didn’t notice Jake watching them leave from the dining room window.
It only took them a couple of minutes to reach the forest reserve, but when they got there they didn’t see anything. They searched around for a couple of minutes, but didn’t see anything.
“It’s here somewhere,” Kiro told them, looking around, “I can sense it. It knows we’re here too, so it is trying to stay hidden.”
“How can something that big stay hidden for very long?” Phoenix asked.
“The bird form is only it’s visible form, it can stay in it’s card form, which is much harder to see or sense, for as long as it wants,” Li told her. “This is pointless. We’ll never find it this way. Phoenix, try the lasin board I gave you.”
Phoenix pulled out the lasin board and concentrated all her magical energy on finding the elusive card.
“Force know my plight!
Release the light!”
The glowing beam shot out from the board and headed deeper into the forest. The three of them hurried after it. After a few minutes Li had to slow down. Phoenix and Kiro noticed after a few moments that he wasn’t with them and hurried back to find him resting on a rock.
“You’ll have to go on without me, if you don’t catch the Fly Card soon it may take flight and our magic could be revealed,” Li told her.
Phoenix nodded and she and Kiro raced on to find the Fly Card. After a couple of minutes of running, the light appeared to stop in a bush by an old, dead tree. Just as the two of them reached it, they were thrown backwards by a sudden gust of wind. Kiro was thrown backwards into a tree and Phoenix was tossed onto her rump. When they oriented themselves they saw what had thrown them back.
The Fly Card stretched it’s mighty wings and glared at the two. It stared at them for a moment, then let out a mighty squawk and took to the skies. It started to fly in the direction of the town, and was flying too fast for them to catch up.
“Oh Key of Clow,
Power of Magic,
Power of Light
Surrender the Wand
The Force Ignite!
Release!”
Phoenix grabbed the wand and took out a card.
Loop Card! Entrap the Fly Card with this area!
Loop Card!
Release and Dispel!
The Loop Card’s visible form flew out from it’s card it hovered for a moment then disappeared. All of the sudden they could hear the Fly Card flapping it’s wings above them again. The Fly Card stared at them for a moment and took off in another direction. A minute later it was flying above the two of them again. This time Phoenix was ready.
“Windy Card!
Tie up the Fly Card and force it to land!
Windy Card!
Release and Dispel!
The Windy Card shot out from its card, and headed up towards the Fly Card. The Windy Card used its wind power and grabbed the Fly Card by its claws. It then tied its claws together and proceeded to take hold of its wings. The Fly struggled in the air and let out a long squawk of frustration as it landed in a forest clearing.
“Common Phoenix!” Kiro said. “Let’s catch that card!”
“Right!” Phoenix said. She then ran towards the clearing with Kiro close on her heals.
The Fly Card was there, still struggling to escape; but the Windy Card was holding on just as tight.
“Fly Card!
I command you to return to your powers confined! Fly!"
The Fly Card was sucked into it’s card form, which then floated down to Phoenix’s hand with the Windy and the Loop.
“Good job, Phoenix,” Li said, walking into the clearing.
“Wahoo! Another Card down!” Kiro shouted as Phoenix laughed.
Phoenix’s cell phone rang as Kiro was still rejoicing.
“Hello?” she asked.
“Phoenix, it’s me,” Holly said from her own cell phone. “Have you looked outside lately? “It’s really strange, and no one knows what is causing it.”
“Causing what?” Phoenix asked, confused.
“The sky is all lit up with small pieces of light, but no one knows where they came from,” Holly told her. “Haven’t you looked outside? They’re everywhere.”
“Hold on a second,” Phoenix asked her. She told her grandfather what Holly had just said.
“The Glow Card is behind this!” Li exclaimed. “But it’s out of control if it’s all over town! We have to stop it! Fast!”
“How?” Phoenix asked. “If it’s all over town, it’s true form will be almost impossible to find!”
“We have to get over there right away!” Kiro said “Common Phoenix! We’ll use the Fly Card! It will be much faster!”
“But what if someone sees us?” Phoenix exclaimed.
“We can use the Shield Card to shield us from other people’s sight,” Kiro told her. “We have to move, now!”
“I will take the car and meet you there,” Li said. “We must hurry!”
“OK,” Phoenix said, hesitantly.
“Shield Card!
Shield Kiro and I from other people’s view!
Shield Card!
Release and Dispel!
The Shield Card appeared and formed a bubble around Phoenix and Kiro. Li nodded to them and hurried out of the forest. He got into his car and was soon driving down the road towards the town; he glanced out his window and saw Phoenix flying with a pair of wings with Kiro close behind her and the Shield Card still around him. He wondered for a moment why he could see them, and then he realized that he could see them because of his own magical powers. Phoenix kept pace with the car as they headed back into town.
“I’m on my way into town,” Phoenix told Holly on her cell phone. “Where should I look when I get there?”
“I told you, they’re everywhere!” Holly said.
When they got there they saw what Holly had meant by ‘they’re everywhere.’ The sky was full of bits of light that looked like fireflies and many people were just staring into the night’s sky.
“I see what you mean,” Phoenix told Holly. “I’ll call you later.” Phoenix then hung up and landed on top of a high building and the wings disappeared.
“We have to get rid of them!” Phoenix exclaimed. “But how can I do it with out someone realizing that I am using magic? Even with the Shield Card still protecting us?
“Yeah, if we don’t do this carefully, people are going to notice,” Kiro said.
* Common! Think * Phoenix thought to herself. * What can I do? People will notice if I use the Shadow or Wood Cards, but how about the Windy? That’s it! The Windy Card can make itself into natural wind phenomena, so if I make a windstorm, people will be less likely to notice! They’ll just think that the wind blew the fireflies away! *
“Uh, what are you doing?” Kiro asked as Phoenix pulled out the Windy Card.
“I’m going to catch me a Glow Card!” Phoenix said.
“Windy Card!
I command you to make a windstorm and blow all the bits of light into one spot!
Windy Card!
Release and Dispel!”
The Windy Card rose up and at once became a large windstorm. Many of the people outside ran for cover inside. The Winds blew all around them, but Kiro and Phoenix were safe within the confines of the Shield’s bubble. Within a few minutes the Windy Card had rounded up all of the bits of light into one spot. Some of the light tried to escape, but it was quickly pulled back in by the Windy Card. Phoenix then pulled out the Odifous and concentrated and capturing the Glow card.
“Force know my plight!
Release the Light!
Fire!
Fire shot out from the Odifous and shot out towards the bits of light. It hit and engulfed the light in a burst of flames. When the flames subsided a fairy-like creature was there it their place.
“Glow Card!
I command you to return to your powers confined!
Glow!
The Glow Card was pulled into its Card form and landed with the Wind Card in Phoenix’s hand. The mighty winds had subsided and people were coming back outside. Phoenix then used the Fly Card and found her grandfather’s car. The wings and shield cards effects disappeared as she got into her grandfather’s car and he drove her back home. Phoenix then transformed the wand back into a key and hid the magical items and Kiro well within her bag. Phoenix was so tired from the nights activities that she fell asleep within a couple of minutes and when they arrived at her house, her grandfather had to carry her inside.
Phoenix’s father was surprised and happy to see his father out of his
mansion and took Phoenix back up to her room and put her into her bed. When he
left Kiro flew out of the bag and snuggled up to Phoenix, happy about the way
the days captures had went.
