It was early Saturday morning when
Phoenix woke up. She was going over to her grandfather’s house to do some
training today. Kiro was already up playing video games on her Holo – TV.
“Morning,” she said, after she had
gotten dressed.
“Hey!” Kiro said with a smile. “Are
you ready to do some good training today?”
“I sure am!” Phoenix said as she
packed her backpack with the magical items that she had gotten from her
grandfather. “All right. In ya go!” She told Kiro, as she motioned to her
backpack.
Kiro groaned. “We’re going to have
to find a different way of doing this,” he said as he flew into her backpack.
“Shush,” she told him as she walked
downstairs. She entered the kitchen where her parents and her brother were
already eating breakfast.
“Good morning, Phoenix,” her mother
said as Phoenix sat down. “I know that you’re going over to your grandfather’s
house today, but I hope that you’ll make time for some breakfast first. I made
your favorite: blueberry pancakes with maple syrup.” She said putting a plate
in front of Phoenix.
Just then they all heard a noise
that sounded like someone exclaiming in excitement.
“Oh!” Phoenix said nervously,
rubbing her stomach and elbowing her backpack at the same time, “I must really
be hungry if my stomach is growling like that! She said nervously. She then
glanced at the kitchen clock. “I’m going to be late!” she exclaimed. “Mom, can
you put my breakfast in a container and I’ll eat at my grandfather’s house?” “Of Course,” said her mother in a
puzzled voice.
When Phoenix finally got outside and
away from her house she let out a big sigh of relief. “That was too close,” she
said as she walked to the bus stop.
“Hey!” said Kiro from her backpack.
“How about sharing the wealth and passing those pancakes back here?”
Phoenix quickly ate a pancake and
put the container into her backpack. Soon there was the sound of happy munching
coming from her backpack.
Phoenix caught the hover – bus to
the other side of town and soon she was at her grandfather’s front door.
“Ding- Dong,” went the door, echoing
throughout the mansion. The same tired nurse answered the door.
“Oh, hello dear,” she said. “Your
grandfather is expecting you.”
The nurse led Phoenix up to the same
room as before. When Phoenix entered she saw that the curtains had been pulled
back and the room looked cheerier. Her grandfather was sitting at the table
drinking a cup of coffee.
As soon as the nurse closed the door
Kiro popped out of Phoenix’s bag and floated over to Li.
“Hey Li!” Kiro said. “Do you got
anything to eat?”
“It looks to me like you’ve already
had breakfast.” Li said, noting the syrup all over Kiro’s face and hands. “Go
to the bathroom and wash yourself up before you make a mess all over
everything.”
“Yeah, Yeah,” Kiro said as he
floated to the bathroom and cleaned himself off.
When he got back Phoenix and Li were
already in a discussion about what to do about the cards.
“What we’re going to do today is go
over the cards and their abilities. We don’t know when or where the cards could
appear, so you need to be prepared for all the different cards,” Li told her.
And so it began. Li went into great
detail about all the cards, their personalities, their powers, and some ways to
defeat them. A few hours and several pages of notes later they were finally
done for the day. Phoenix’s head felt like it was going to explode with all the
information that her grandfather had given her.
“Well, I think that’s all for
today.” Li said. “I still have more to teach you, but we will get into the
magical training next time. For now I have just taught you the bare essentials
that you will need in case you encounter a Star Card between now and next
session.”
“Yeah! Next time we get into the
cool stuff like practicing your magic!” Kiro said.
Li gave him a withering stare as
Phoenix began to pack up her things. Suddenly they all heard a scream. They
looked at each other in confusion. Then there was another scream.
“Ms. Hollander!” Li said, moving
toward the door. As the three of them went down the stairs they say what the
trouble was almost immediately..
“Someone help me!” The nurse cried.
She was trapped in some sort of bubble. She was pounding on it’s walls, but she
could not break free. She suddenly fainted and fell backwards.
“It’s the¼”
Kiro said.
“Wait,” Li interrupted, “let Phoenix
figure it out.
Phoenix thought about all that she
had learned that afternoon, but her mind was already overloaded with
information. She was unsure of what it was, but she knew that she had to get
Ms. Hollander out of there.
“Oh Key of Clow
Power of Magic
Power of Light
Surrender the Wand
The Force Ignite!
Release!
Force know my plight!
Release the Light!
Lightning!
A bolt of lightning came from the
Odifous and hit the bubble, but it didn’t do any damage. She tried another
element.
Force know my plight!
Release the Light!
Fire!
The same thing happened. Phoenix
didn’t know what to do. She closed her eyes to try and think of something. She
then looked at Li and Kiro, but they looked frozen. “Kiro...?” She asked him,
but he didn’t move. She glanced at the clock on the wall, and saw that it too
had stopped. “What’s happening?”
“Phoenix,” a voice said from behind
her.
“Huh?” Phoenix said as she spun around. “Sakura?” she asked.
Sakura smiled at her.
“I don’t know what to do. I can’t
get Ms. Hollander out of there and I can’t figure out which card it is,”
Phoenix said, frustrated. “It’s not attacking or using it’s abilities, so I
can’t figure out which card it is.”
“Sometimes the answer is right in
front of you,” Sakura said. “Li told you what the cards were, but you also have
to rely on your instincts too. You think that the card isn’t using it’s powers¼”
“Yes! All it does is deflect all the
attacks I send at it!” Phoenix said.
"Maybe that's all it
does," Sakura said. "Not all of the cards are attack cards. Some of
them grant abilities like the Dash or Jump cards. Think about what it is doing,
not what it isn't doing."
Phoenix thought about this for a
moment. "It's blocking my attack and protecting Ms. Hollander..." An
idea came into her head. "Is it the Shield Card?" Sakura just smiled
at her. "But if all it does is block my attacks, then how am I supposed to
capture it?"
"The Shield Card is tricky, but
it is invaluable once you get it," Sakura told her. "It can block
both physical and magical attacks."
"So how am I supposed to
capture it? I don't think that the Wood or Shadow Card is strong enough to
break it's defenses."
"There is one thing that you
can try..." Sakura said.
"Do you understand?"
Sakura asked a few minutes later.
"I think so, but what will I do
if this doesn't work?" Phoenix asked.
"You
must believe in yourself and the magic of the cards," Sakura told her.
"They draw their magic from you and you have great magical ability, but
you must learn to focus it. I shall now return you to the moment in time where
I took you. Good luck." Sakura then vanished. Phoenix looked around and
saw Li and Kiro looking expectantly at her.
"Common Phoenix! You can do
it!" Kiro shouted.
"Right," Phoenix nodded.
"Wood Card! Shadow Card!
I command you to attack the Shield
Card together!
Wood and Shield!
Release and Dispel!
The Wood and Shadow Cards erupted from their cards and
attacked the Shield Card together. At first their attacks appeared not to work,
then the Shadow Card managed to wrap itself around the shield and the Wood Card
proceeded to make branches that completely covered the Shield and Shadow Cards.
The two cards appeared to be restraining the Shield Card, but the Shield Card
was straining against them. Suddenly, the Shadow and Wood cards were thrown off
the Shield Card with a burst of light so bright that the three of them had to
look away. When the light faded they looked back and saw a shield floating in
front of them.
"That's the Shield Card's visible form!" Shouted Kiro. "Hurry and seal it Phoenix."
Phoenix didn't need to be told twice.
"Wood Card!
Use your branches to entrap the Shield Card!
Wood Card!
Release and Dispel!"
The Wood Card rushed the Shield Card and entangled it in it's branches.
"Shield Card!
Return to your power confined!
Shield!
The Shield Card was then sucked into it's card form, which floated into Phoenix's hand. The three of them then hurried over to the fainted Ms. Hollander. Li kneeled over her and placed his hand on her head.
"I removed the memories of the Shield Card from her mind," he said, partially drained from the effort. "She'll be all right in a few minutes."
"That was a really close one," Phoenix said. * Thanks Sakura * She thought.
And from somewhere unseen and unheard, Sakura smiled.
