Caster Gun
Old and antiquated technology, the Caster is still a weapon to be feared. It is especially effective against the Tao magic of the Kei Pirates because of the different technological base. Versus other technology from the same era, the Caster does not fare as well, as the effects can actually cancel each other out.
The Caster fires various shells, each with a different effect. This is because the Caster shells are in fact magic spells encased in bullet form. The action of firing them from the Caster unleashes the spell effect. However, to power the spell, a small amount of life force is drawn from the person wielding the gun. The more powerful the shell, the greater the amount of life force drawn. Each shell has a different effect, and some are more powerful than others. There are 20 types of Caster shells, and it is said that the most powerful of all shells can be found on the planet Tenrei. These "ultimate" shells are so powerful that they require a huge amount of energy from whoever is firing the gun, and firing several in a short period of time could prove fatal.
Gene Starwind and Ron MacDougall are the only characters we ever see wielding a Caster, almost certainly because of the rarity of ammunition. Both being prohibitively expensive and hard to come by, someone wielding a Caster must take great care to ensure that they don't expend their ammo supply. While some weapons dealers, such as Fred Luo, may occasionally come across old stock of Caster shells, they are becoming harder and harder to find, making life difficult for those who choose a Caster as their sidearm.
