Chapter 4: Fairy Forest

Back up high in the sky was Bowser's castle. It was floating again only Peach's castle wasn't on it like before. In a small room squirmed the plumbers and the princess, still imprisoned in stone blocks. Peach sighed and looked out the window. "Twink..."

"Gwa Ha ha!!" Bowser laughed as he taunted Mario and Luigi. "There's NOTHIN' you can do now!"

"When we get out of this..." Luigi menacingly said. "We're gonna kick your butt!"

"Ha! You'll need a miracle!" Bowser sneered and then Kammy koopa came in. "Ah, Kammy, How can I help you?"

"Bowser, we've got trouble!" Kammy hissed. "Um...The Koopa Bros. have been defeated."

"WHAT?!" Koopa roared. "HOW?! BY WHO?!"

"There's this kid..." Kammy began. "He's a human and he transported here somehow...possibly a last act done by the star spirits before I sealed them."

"I can't have another hero running around! He defeated the Koopa Bros. but let's face it, they're pathetic. Who else has he defeated?" Bowser questioned, trying desperately to keep his anger under control.

"One of my inexperienced apprentices." Kammy mumbled. "Pare Ill...not a very tough opponent. He often lets his anger dominate him. Well what shall we do?"

"Destroy him!" Bowser commanded. "And do it quickly before this Mario wannabe gets too strong!"

"As you wish, oh Mighty Evil one." Kammy bowed and left the room.

"He's not going to rescue you three!" Bowser taunted evilly. "He's obviously one of your friends if he's strong enough to defeat the koopa bros., Mario. I'll put an end to this potential threat." He muttered as he stomped off.

"Is it really one of your friends?" Luigi asked. "Like Goombario and the others?"

"Bowser also said it was a human." Peach replied. "I've never seen anyone human but us."

"Another human?" Luigi wonders.

Twink flew through the window into the room. "Hello everyone! Guess what? There's another human in the mushroom kingdom! His name is Jimmy and he's got the help of some of your old adventuring friends. He's defeated the Koopa Bros. and freed the Koopa Village from slavery. Right now he's on a quest to find everyone that you went with on the last adventure. He's already found Goombario, Kooper, Bombette and Parakarry. The only bad thing is, is that Parakarry flew off to do some postal work."

"Oh Twink! Could you please play the messenger once again?" Peach pleaded. "I need you to tell this Jimmy that we're all right."

"Sure! Anything for you!" Twink nodded and flew out the window.

Jimmy, Kooper, Bombette and Goombario were all sitting down in Koopa village under a tree taking a quick rest. Jimmy realized something in his rest while he was examining his feather. "Hey I just realized! We haven't had lunch!"

"Right! You owe me a honey syrup!" Kooper reminded in an oh so gentle way.

"I'll go buy some things. What do you want everyone?" Jimmy asked as he looked over his money. "I'll try out a mushroom even though I've hated them before..."

"I want a mushroom too but if you don't have enough..." Goombario went on. "I'll pass."

"Me too!" Bombette called.

"Okay, I've got it!" Jimmy smiled cheerily and ran into the shop. He looked over the things in the store and smiled when he saw the mushrooms and honey syrup. Jimmy picked the mushrooms up and they felt a little heavy. "Weird, mushrooms aren't that heavy... I'd like to buy some things please." He turned to the shopkeeper and she smiled at him, she was a koopa with a cheerful air about her.

"Ooh! You're a cutie!" The skopkeeper replied. "Oh! You're the one who saved us! What do you want?"

"I want these things." Jimmy said to her and she smiled cutely in response. "Go ahead and take them. You and your friends must be hungry." She said.

"You don't have to do that. Mr. Kolorado gave me this feather as a reward." He took it out of his hair and showed it to her.

"Oh, it's pretty!" She complimented. "But since you are so nice, I'll have to insist!"

"Thank you!" Jimmy bowed and ran out of the store. He ran to the others and they got their food. "I got all this stuff for free! She gave it to me for saving her!"

"That's awesome!" Goombario replied and bit into his mushroom. "Oh, yum."

"Let's see just how these things taste." Jimmy mumbled. "Hopefully these mushrooms won't taste like mushrooms." Jimmy took a bite of the mushroom and blinked. "Hey! These don't taste like mushrooms! This tastes like a bran muffin!"

"Huh? What's a bran muffin?" Goombario asked.

"Is that what they called mushrooms in your world?" Kooper asked.

"Are there mushrooms and goombas and toadstool people in your world?" Bombette asked. "Any Bob-ombs?"

"None that are living." Jimmy replied.

"WHAT?!" Bombette asked angrily. "Your kind killed all the Bob-ombs?"

"Wait, let me rephrase that...No, there's just no bombs that are animated." Jimmy nervously said.

"Good honey syrup..." Kooper mumbled while drinking it. "Yummm..."

"How can you drink all that syrup?" Goombario asked.

"I could have had chocolate but a couple of PEOPLE stole all of my chocolate and ate it!" Kooper complained. "At least I have my syrup..."

"Who wants to go back to Toad town?" Jimmy asked. "We should head there...it's getting dark."

"Actually, we should be heading to my village, how about you guys coming to meet my family?" Goombario got up and started to leave. Everyone followed him out the Koopa village. They walked down pleasant path and eventually made it to the gates of Toad town. They went through the woods and eventually made it back to the gates of the village. "This is where I live. Goombario knocked the knocker with his teeth and Goompa opened it.

"Goombario! You have any idea what time it is? Goomma's beside herself!" Goompa scolded. "You come inside and bring your friends."

They were all let into the house. It was an open house with stairs that lead to the family bedrooms. There was a nice kitchen, living room and bathroom on the main floor. It was a very beautiful home indeed. Jimmy looked around. "Wow!"

Goomma and Goombaria walked up to Goombario. Goombaria looked at him and said. "Busted! You are SO late." They all went over and sat down on the couch.

"Where have you been? I've been so worried!" Goomma asked but then gained her cheer and greeted everyone. "Hello Kooper and Bombette! It's nice to see you again...who are you, a new friend of Goombario?"

"I want to introduce Jimmy here." Goombario introduced. "Mom, Dad, Sis...this is Jimmy and Jimmy, this is my family."

"I'm honored to meet you." Jimmy said warmly. "Goombario and everyone else has been really nice to me. I...well, I was brought here."

"Pardon?" Goompa asked.

"Um...I have something to tell you. I've...been asked by the Star Spirits to protect Jimmy here. Jimmy's been chosen to rescue them and be a hero!" Goombario said. "Princess Toadstool, Mario AND his brother have all been kidnapped by Bowser."

"How did THAT happen?" Goombaria commented.

"Well, it's involved." Goombario replied. "I have to go with him to protect him!"

"We're helping out too!" Kooper commented. "They won't be alone!"

"I just want to say that Goombario has been a real help to me. He's so smart and helpful and courteous." Jimmy commented warmly. "He's really mature too!"

"Mature? HIM?" Goombaria asked in disbelief.

"Mind your manners, Goombaria." Goomma hinted. "We have guests. You can all stay here tonight, you've got a big day tomorrow."

"Thank you." Jimmy said.

They got the blankets out and soon everyone was resting comfortably. They all settled into sleep on the couches, but Jimmy was having trouble sleeping. He looked towards the doors while under his comforter and sighed. He got up and crept out the door as quietly as he can and walked to the yard and sat down. He looked at the stars which looked fantastic. There were no street lamps or house lights to dull their shine. He sighed and looked up at them and he frowned and gained an aura of melancholy. He heard the door open behind him and someone was approaching. He looked back to see Bombette approach him, she had a look of wonder. "What are you doing outside at this time night?"

"I-I was just looking at the stars..." Jimmy said, looking into the sky, taking the star's light into his eyes. "That's all."

Bombette stared at him, concerned. "...Is there something wrong?"

"No, nothing at all." Jimmy replied. "I was just thinking about how lucky Goombario is."

"How so?" Bombette asked intently.

"He's got a really nice family. He's got protective, caring parents and his sister...well, she's nice too." Jimmy said, somber, almost sad. "How I envy Goombario."

"Why?" Bombette asked. "Man, you're talking as though you don't have a family." All Jimmy did in reply was look at her, his eyes were growing very glassy and full of sadness. Bombette took a gentle step backward, her voice gained a gentle sincerity. "Um...I apologize. I had no idea..."

"You don't have to apologize." Jimmy said gently. "I don't remember very much before last year. I was an only child but my parents and I were as close as Goombario's family is...but...they died in a car accident. I was in the hospital for about 3 weeks and I had a case of amnesia. I can only recall a few dim memories of my life before then. I now had to live in a foster home because I had no known relatives. So I had to live in a foster home but no one loves me anymore."

"I-I'm sorry..." Bombette almost whispered.

"You don't have to say that!" Jimmy shouted sharply but then lowered his gaze to the ground and he regained his sadness. "I-I'm sorry I snapped at you...It's getting cold so I'm going back inside." He said as he opened the door. Bombette gave a solemn stare to the sky and went back into the house as well.

The next morning, Goombario walked down the stairs and crept up onto the couch Jimmy was on and nudged him. "Hey Jimmy! It's time to wake up!"

"Ugh?" Jimmy groaned and pulled the covers over his head. Goombario jumped up and down on him and he groaned again. "What is it now?"

"Time to wake up!" Goombario yelled and everyone nearly fell out of bed.

Kooper groggily got up and scowled at Goombario. "You know, I read somewhere that for the first 10 seconds after waking up, you aren't legally responsible for your actions."

"Thanks for waking me up. But don't shout so loud next time, you almost made me light my fuse!" Bombette said. "And you'll know what'll happen then."

"Let's go to forever forest now!" Jimmy said as he ran into the bathroom to change from his pajamas to his clothes. "I'm ready!"

"Not without a nice breakfast." Goomma called from the kitchen. "I'm making shroom pancakes!"

"Oh yum!" Goombario replied hungrily.

The whole family sat down to breakfast and it was quite delicious. During the time, Goombaria tried to bug Goombario about stuff and Goombario shrugged them off with the best of his abilities. Goompa and Goomma were talking with Goombario's friends about how nice it was for them to meet and Jimmy even helped clear the table and load the dishes in the dishwasher. Goombario turned to Jimmy while putting the dishes away. "You know, I'll bet clearing the dishes IS a lot easier with hands."

"Well...many hands make light work and that breakfast was so wonderful I had to help you do the dishes. At my house I never have breakfast made for me and...never mind, let's keep my mind off the bad." Jimmy smiled warmly and put the rest of the dishes within the washer.

"...The bad?" Goombario wondered but then saw the others waving good-bye to his family and Goombario rushed to join them. "See you around! I'll be back."

They walked back to Toad town and they walked to the more southern areas. The town's area was a little more quiet. The toads not too often but do go into forever forest which was across the bridge. Tayst E. lived here too, her house always had an aura of nice baking smells. Jimmy took in the air and sniffed. "Wow! Smells like cookies!"

"Well...here's forever forest but there's something odd about it." Goombario commented. "The guard who patrols the bridge is usually a nervous wreck because of the ghosts that haunt it."

"There's ghosts?!" Jimmy nervously asked.

"Don't worry about the ghosts!" Kooper said to him. "They're actually quite friendly."

"Right, but they do like to scare people." Bombette said. "They LOVE to scare the guard over there. He even gets horrible letters saying they'll scare him."

"But something's amiss." Goombario said as he ran over to the guard who was humming a pleasant tune. "Excuse me, is this the way to forever forest?"

"Not anymore!" The Guard sang. "The forest is now called the Fairy Forest!"

"Fairy forest?" Goombario wondered. "What do you mean Fairies?"

"There aren't any Boo ghosts anymore! Only forest fairies and let me tell you. They've made the forest into a regular NICE forest." The Guard joyfully replied. "One flew out and pinned that sign over the Forever Forest sign. My oh my she was lovely looking."

Jimmy and everyone else walked over to Goombario and asked. "What's up?"

"The forest has been taken over by fairies or they seemed to." Goombario replied. "I think this is a problem."

Jimmy nodded and ran into the forest with everyone following him. The guard ran a little bit after them. "Don't cause any trouble! I've had the first good night sleep in like, forever thanks to the Fairies."

They walked into the forest and they nearly jumped at the things that have changed. The menacing trees were all blossoming flowers of various colors. There was sunbeams poking through the dense leafy canopies of trees. There were flowers and bushes all over the place. There was cute little forest animals instead of the monstrous creatures that once stalked the forest. Bombette looked at it and kind of gagged a bit. "Whoa, this is too much even for a girl like me!"

They continued walking and Jimmy found signs on each path telling where the path leads to but no one else could see them. Kooper looked around as they followed a path that Jimmy pointed out that said to the "Heart of the forest." Kooper looked around. "Is it me or is Jimmy seeing things in the forest we aren't?"

"Either that or he's crazy!" Bombette commented.

"Maybe Jimmy has the power to see the unseen?" Goombario suggested. "That feather he has does seem to react to him."

"I wonder why?" Kooper asked.

Suddenly they heard a rustle in the bushes and they all took a fighting stance. They nearly collapsed in disbelief when she came out, a fairy who looked about Jimmy's size and age. She had long brown hair and wore a pretty green dress that showed off her legs. She also had sparkly blue eyes. She stared instantly at Jimmy and studied his face. She smiled mischievously and checked out the rest of him. Then she flew over to him saying in a sweet voice. "You are mine!"

Everyone's eyes turned into dots and a small anime sweat drop appeared on each of the backs of their heads. Jimmy stammered. "Pardon me?"

She flew around him, checking out all of him then flew closer to his face, speaking whimsically. "I shall have you! Yes I shall and you're just sooooo glorious...your eyes really do just glimmer with magic and intellect!"

"Um..." Jimmy blushed a deep red and he gulped nervously. "A-Are you a fairy?"

She smiled very warmly. "I am. Thank you for noticing."

"Um...are you the one in charge?" Jimmy asked bashfully. "You're just so beautiful."

"You're wooing me!" She mischievously noted. "That's so cute. Alas the one you are talking about is Selena, the Fairy Queen." She became sad. "But if you go to see the queen...she will have you instead of me. BUT! If the stars have sent you to our queen...then it is destined! Go now! The queen summons you!"

"How do I find her." Jimmy asked.

"If you want to see her, go south." The Fairy sadly said and then flew into the woods.

They walked south and Goombario ran up to him. "What's with these fairies?"

Jimmy shrugged innocently. "I don't know. I think she likes me."

"Mmph." Goombario mumbled. "You like her?"

"Well...she seemed...um...friendly, that's for sure." Jimmy replied.

"Psst!" Whispered a voice. Jimmy wondered about it and suddenly Bow appeared out of thin air. "Hello Jimmy, I'm lady Bow."

"Finally! A boo! You're very pretty!" Jimmy complimented. "How did you know my name?"

"Twink told me about you. Thank you for saying that though, I'm not in a good mood!" She smiled but then she gained a look of seriousness. "We have a serious problem. Fairies have taken over the forest I need to find my Boo friends...even though I'm good looking, I'm a boo and a female so in this area, I'm not much a diplomat, imagine that! I need you to talk the Fairy Queen into moving somewhere else and well...seeing how that Fairy reacted to you, I'm guessing you're a better bet than me."

"I'll try." Jimmy nodded, determined. "Is there a more beautiful place I could mention though..."

"How about flower fields?" Goombario mentioned. "I heard that it's beautiful, but I hardly got to see it thanks to flowers over my head."

They continued walking and eventually made it to the south. They opened the lush branches to find the Boo mansion. The mansion wasn't run down at all in fact it looked golden and covered in beautiful plants. There wasn't even so much of a Boo around. Goombario looked around and Mumbled to everyone. "Something's not right here."

"It just looks so beautiful and inviting, though!" Jimmy replied almost dreamily. "Let's go in, maybe we'll find the boos in there."

"Fat chance..." Goombario mumbled to everyone and they nodded back skeptically.

They walked into the main area and found themselves in a pristine throne room covered in foliage and fluttering around was the Fairy Queen herself. She stared and smiled gently at them. She gently beckoned her hand and Jimmy wandered over to her.

"Hi!" Selena began. "You're quite cute. What do you want? Maybe I can help..." She winked at him.

"Um..." Jimmy replied. "I was wondering if you could help all of us out."

"All of you?" Selena wondered. "Whatever do you mean?"

"This is forever forest...the boos lived here, or at least they used to. You moved here and kicked them all out!" Jimmy said, his words getting more and more hostile. "Why did you do this, anyway?!"

"How dare you take up that tone with me!" Selena snapped. "I am not some woman you can lead on! I am SELENA, the FAIRY QUEEN! The most beautiful woman in the world!"

"With all due respect your Majesty, you need to stick your head in some ice water to bring the swelling down on your head!" Jimmy snidely remarked. "You have no authority to do something like this to the Boos!"

"Maybe some dungeon time will teach you some respect!" Selena hissed then summoned her guards. All of a sudden, two Clubbas burst out of the doors, armed with maces. They restrained everyone but Lady bow who made herself invisible. A clubba took Jimmy by the arms and she leaned over to him, a coldness and vacancy in her gaze. "I am the queen, sweetie. I have the authority to do whatever I want!" At that, Jimmy was taken away along with everyone else.

That's the end of Chapter 4. I've done this all in one day, what did you think of it?
