Chapter 1: In the Beginning...
"Come On!! This is the third time I've called you to dinner!" Terry screamed. "Come to the dinner table now!"
"Oh...okay." Jimmy sighed and went down the stairs and tripped on the last one. He fell hard to the ground. "Ouch!"
She stood up from the table and walked over to him. "You'll live." She then went back to the dinner table and Jimmy slowly got up.
"Sorry...Mo-...sorry." Jimmy groaned. "I shouldn't have been going down the stairs so fast."
"Serves you right!" Ella commented but stopped when Terry glared at her.
"What's for dinner?" Jimmy asked but then looked at his plate and blinked at the slimy mass of gunk. "Huh?"
"It's eggplant casserole." Terry said as she ate some of it. "It's very good for you."
"I had a feeling it was." Jimmy groaned then shoveled some in and winced at the tangy flavor. "Mmmm..."
"You're turning green!" Ella commented coyly. "You don't like it!"
"What?!" Terry asked. "Ella! Mind your mouth."
Jimmy sighed again and looked toward upstairs. He tried not to think about it but he still wondered what life would be like if his parents were still around. Ever since his family died in the big accident, it felt like there was a missing piece in him. Ella wasn't part of his family and neither were Terry. Terry was his foster mom and Ella was her daughter. They played the parts well but weren't the real deal. Terry was the part of the mom always serving him food he didn't like and Ella was the part of the bratty sister. He ate some more eggplant casserole and felt like throwing his supper back onto his plate. "I'm not hungry..."
"Could it be because you've spoiled your dinner?" Terry demanded. "I've worked on this for over an hour!"
"I know...I don't feel well." Jimmy groaned.
"Fine, we'll leave half of the dishes for you when you decide to become better." Ella griped.
Jimmy ran up the stairs and into his room. He laid on his bed and looked up at the ceiling in sadness. "I wish I had a family..." When he was feeling better he did the dishes and got ready for bed and fell into a deep sleep.
He found himself in the middle of a field of wild flowers and he looked up at the blue sky above. He looked at the trees and the bushes. It didn't look like his apartment in New York but somewhere far from there. "Where am I?"
"Ha ha ha..."
Jimmy got up and looked around hopefully to find whatever was laughing but he found nothing that could link it. "Who are you?"
"I'm your worst nightmare!" The apparition appeared and sneered at him. It was a female and she had glasses and white hair and she was riding a broom like some witch. She looked like one too with the purple and magenta robes and the steepled hat. "I am Kammy Koopa!"
"Kammy Koopa huh?" Jimmy asked. "Why are you my worst nightmare? You aren't some demonic undead fanged monster from beyond the grave. You look like some sort of geeky turtle witch."
"You brat! How dare you talk to me that way!" Kammy shouted in anger. "I ought to turn you into a bat. No, I think I'll squash you like a bug when I meet you face to face!"
"You can't do anything to me. This is only a dream." Jimmy shrugged, pretty sure of himself. "This place looks too pretty to be reality. Well...pretty all except for you."
"You're going to get it! Trust me!" The creature waved her wand and suddenly it glowed a shiny yellowish green and a giant block appeared over Jimmy's head. He looked up and cried out as the giant block came down.
Suddenly he woke up in the middle of the night, covered in humidity. "Ugh! It was only a dream...of course it was! It looked so real! Ha ha!" Jimmy snuggled back down into his bed and fell back to sleep.
"Noooooo!!" Peach screamed as the two Ninjikoopas grabbed her from her bed. "Let me GOOOOOOO!!!"
"Man she's got a voice that would shatter glass!" The ninjikoopa in blue complained.
"At least we can happily report this to the boss." The ninjikoopa in green nodded. "Stage one of our operation complete. Let's just hope mistress Kammy Koopa is doing her part as well."
"You mean kidnapping the Mario bros.?" Ninjikoopa Blue scoffed. "Ha! Easier said than done!"
Suddenly the lights turned on in Peach's bedroom and two toad guards ran out into the room. "Halt! Who's there."
"I can't resist." Ninjikoopa Blue smirked to Ninjikoopa Green. "Let's get em."
"They spun Peach around and tied her up from head to toe and she was gagged to prevent her from screaming. The Ninjikoopas jumped up on the bed and laughed. "We're the Koopa Bros.! We'll mow ya down if you stay here any longer!"
"We'll save you, Princess!" The Toad called but then the Koopas showed them the flash of the fingers and suddenly the Toads got dizzy and collapsed on the floor. One of the Toads groaned. "Gnarly Dude...Just like the 60's!"
"Well! Let's go!" Ninjikoopa Green nodded as they jumped through the window and down to the ground. They took the princess and threw her into the clown hover car and Bowser popped out.
"Good work! Now Kammy should be kidnapping Mario and his Brother right now. She'll be approaching in 3...2...1...." Bowser trailed off and saw none other than Kammy Koopa dragging the Mario Bros. who were encased in stone blocks. "Great work Kammy!"
"I only do my best work for you Bowser." Kammy replied proudly. "Are we going to kidnap Yoshi too? He could be a thorn in the side too you know."
"Ummm..." Bowser wondered then shook his head quickly. "Nope, we don't need to, he's too far away to do anything about it now. By the time he even finds out about it, I'll rule the Mushroom Kingdom anyway."
"Well...I think we've ruled out all the people that would be able to save them so I think it's a safe bet." Kammy shrugged and waved her wand and Peach found herself a nice stone block to cover herself. "That's everything. We'll take them all into your castle."
"Great work everyone. Let's go!" Bowser and Kammy flew away, dragging the plumbers and the Princess along behind. They also left behind the Koopa Bros.
"So what do we do now?" Ninjikoopa Green asked.
"Dunno. How about we hold victory party back at the fort!" Ninjikoopa Blue asked back and they both laughed. "Party time!!" They both run off into the dark night.
Back in New York, Jimmy was sound asleep in his room and becoming disturbed again. He suddenly woke up and heard someone calling to him. "Who's there? It better not be that Kammy Koopa witch that attacked me in my dream. He silently passed the room and crept down the stairs and out the door. He suddenly emerged in the woods somewhere and fell on his face. His face felt the semi comfort of sand and dirt rather than concrete. "Where am I? Since when is there a forest in my front yard?!"
He passed through the bushes and shrubs and saw a house in among some trees and what looked like a giant green pipe sticking out of the ground. The house had a sign that said. "Mario" on it.
"Mario? Who's Mario? The name of the house?" Jimmy thought to himself. He knocked on the door and there was no answer. "Huh? Why isn't there anyone coming to the door?" He rang the doorbell but there was once again no answer. "Come on! Can I please get a response?" He walked to a window and looked inside it. It looked like there was a struggle in there, everything was a mess and the lights were on. "Let's see what happened?"
Jimmy opened the door and took a look inside and gasped. The whole house was damaged and some of the furniture was even knocked over. "Hello?"
Jimmy searched through the junk and found there wasn't anyone there. "What the heck? There's no one in the house! It's almost like there was some sort of abduction." He looked around warily and got into the bed. "I know I shouldn't be doing this but...I'm so sleepy."
He slept in the bed until eight in the morning. He was awakened by a knocking sound coming from outside. The figure outside called. "Hey Mario! It's me! Parakarry! I've got a telegram for you from the chancellor of the Mushroom Kingdom!"
Jimmy yawned and opened his eyes wide and they turned into tiny dots and blinked blankly. "Mushroom...what?" He got up quickly and opened the door and it revealed Parakarry rummaging through his pack.
"I got this telegram and---WHOA!!!" Parakarry suddenly shouted out and fell down the steps to the ground. "WHOA! You're not Mario!!"
"You're absolutely right!" Jimmy groaned as he yawned greatly. "What is this Mushroom kingdom?"
"Are you a guest of Mario or...some sort of bum?" Parakarry questioned.
"I am not a bum!" Jimmy protested. "You're rude! Hey though, I can take rude...just don't shoot me or chuck a bomb at me."
A question mark appeared over Parakarry's head. "Shoot? Chuck Bombs? I don't do those things. I'm just a postal worker."
"Hey!" Jimmy opened his eyes truly for the first time and cried out. "WHOA! A monster!"
"What's the matter, Kid? You never seen a paratroopa before?" Parakarry asked. "You're not the nuttiest person I know but your one of them."
"Where the heck am I? Last thing I saw that I knew well was the interior of my house. I stepped out and...here I am!" Jimmy recalled, looking up. "This world is so weird."
"You're weird yourself. You look like a human...there are only a few genuine humans in the Mushroom Kingdom. You look new." Parakarry nodded and then took his hand. "Let's go to the palace."
"Okay...is it far?"
"Not at all really...You'll have to go through this warp pipe here." Parakerry led Jimmy to the pipe and he jumped in.
"Wheee!!!" Jimmy shouted as he fell down the tube and he jumped out in the middle of Toad town. There was an arch behind them that read Toad Town and this way to Goomba Village. The post office was right there and Russ T.'s house and was beside the building. There was a lake there and another house sitting right there. "Wow! A town!"
"This is Toad Town. A town of well...Toads." Parakarry nodded knowingly. "Well, shall we go to the palace."
Jimmy walked up to a girl Toad and looked her over. "These are people! They're not frogs, toads or amphibians at all!"
"I beg your pardon?" The Toad Girl asked. "Who are you? Are you new to the neiborhood? My name is Ann Chovie!"
"Nice to meet you. I'm Jimmy." Jimmy said as he shook her hand and she smiled. "You look different!"
"What's with everyone here wearing a turban?" Jimmy asked.
"These aren't turbans...they're our caps! We're fungus people!" Ann replied sweetly.
"I have to go to the palace, see you around!" Jimmy smiled and walked with Parakarry to the next area of the town which had a weird house with a spinning roof and a couple of other houses and a large star decorated gate. Parakarry and Jimmy pushed the doors open and went up the path to the palace. but were stopped by two Toad Guards.
"This is Princess Peach's Castle. Do you have an appointment?" One of the Toad guards asked.
"I do have this telegram for Mario but he's nowhere to be found. I need to ask someone in charge why I'm in this world." Jimmy replied, showing the Guard the telegram which still wasn't opened.
A question mark dangled over both of the guards' heads and they examined the telegram which was topped with the official seal. "This IS the authentic letter... I guess you can see the chancellor but..."
The other Toad Guard Stopped him and whispered to him. "Don't go blabbing the problem out to him. We don't even know him. Just let him get his answers."
They opened the gate for him and he walked into the palace. He looked around in wonder at the place interior. There was a checkered floor and the palace was bright with color, looking like a fairy tale castle. The chancellor opened the door and walked down to him. The chancellor was a nervous wreck but he had to have patience. "Can I help...you?"
"I need to know some answers..." Jimmy asked to him and took in a deep breath. "Okay...I left my house last night because I heard someone was calling me so I went to check it out only when I checked it out I went to some weird portal or whatever into this world and I stumbled upon this Mario guy's house and asked if anyone was home but there wasn't so I slept there for the night even though I really shouldn't have and I woke up today getting some mail from this guy here only he was some sort of flying turtle and I was freaked but it was okay for he told me that I could go to the palace to get some answers so I came here and now I'm in front of you with all your grace and wonderfulness and now you can answer my questions..." He wheezed and took in another breath.
"Whoa, slow down." The Chancellor interrupted. "You're from another world?"
"Yeah!" Jimmy sharply whispered.
"I can't help you. The only things that can help you are the stars. If you go to shooting star hill then you might be able to communicate with them. You say you have the telegram so that means that Mario is gone." He frowned and his eyes grew glassy. "OH NO!! MARIO IS GONE!! NO ONE CAN SAVE OUR BELOVED PRINCESS!!"
"I'll save her!" Jimmy volunteered. "I'll try anyway..."
The Chancellor froze then smiled weakly at him. "You're a cute kid but you have no idea how dangerous this mission is. You'd better just leave it alone. I'll send for Luigi."
"Would Luigi be Mario's little brother by any chance?" Jimmy asked innocently.
"Yes...why...?"
"He's gone too I think." Jimmy frowned.
"NO NO NOO!!! LUIGI IS ALSO GONE!!! NOOO ONE CAN SAVE OUR DARLING PRINCESS!!!!" The Chancellor wept and ran upstairs in a flurry of grief.
"Wow...he threw a fit like a little sissy girl..." Jimmy murmured to Parakarry.
"Don't blame him for it. He's like this whenever the princess gets kidnapped. I'm surprised he hasn't had a psychotic episode yet." Parakarry sighed. "Well..."
"I'm going." Jimmy seriously said and started for the door. "I'm going to save the princess and those guys."
"WHAT! You're just a kid! We've done it already but without Mario, we don't stand a chance." Parakarry pleaded as he was following the wiry kid out the door. "PLEASE Reconsider!"
"No." Jimmy said. "I'll do it but first I'll go to this Shooting star
summit that guy was talking about maybe I'll get some answers here."
That's the End of Chapter 1 for my other Mario Fic. I've been having
serious thoughts about deleting the other Mario Fic "Standing on Your Own"
because I don't think I'll get anywhere with it. Well, I'll continue this
story if I get any reviews for it. I'd really like people to compare this
story with "Standing on Your Own" so I can see which is better.
