The New Rival

We open this episode in Sakura's house before school. Kero hinted about buying her a zylon warrior game and bugs Sakura. Aiden calls Sakura down and she runs into Julian and Tori. Tori invites Julian over to study and to dinner. Sakura gets mad when Tori makes fun of her cooking ability and Julian encourages her to stand up for herself. Tori then refers to the paper and talks about a girl dressed oddly and challenges people to karate fights and beating them. He tells that it's a girl Sakura's age and pins her for it. Sakura gets mad again...

Then Sakura goes to school and enters the classroom. Madison greets her and tells that Li isn't even there yet. Sakura looks to his desk and gets a little worried and envisions him capturing a clow card. They talk some more and Li walks in, totally out of it. Li slumped in his chair. The door opened again revealing a black haired, smirking girl, Meilin Rae. Li freaks and she walks over to him. Meilin asks why he didn't wait for her and he groaned. Mr. Terrada introduces Meilin and Sakura turns to Li and asked about her, seeing she knows so much about him. Meilin raced to Sakura with disapproval and stared hard at her. "Listen very carefully sweetheart, BACK RIGHT OFF!" (WAH HA HA!! Now THAT'S funny!!  ^.~)

At lunch, Sakura and Madison had lunch with Nikki, Rita and Chelsea. They talk about Li and Meilin and mention that Sakura must really have a rival now. Sakura and the rest look on as Zachary approached, about to tell another one of his crazy tales. Chelsiea shut him up and Meilin and Li appeared in the distance. Meilin tells Li how happy she is now that her Dad transferred here and how she'll be able to make lunch for him. Li tells how she doesn't want her to make lunch for her and they talk about the Clow cards and how he must help this other captor. "I need to help her Mei-Lin; if I don't--" Meilin confirms it's a girl and she glares at Sakura and said that Sakura must be the card captor. Meilin gained a smile and decided to compete with Sakura.

Sakura got wind of their conversation by how Meilin was acting in the distance and got the chills. After the lunch, they had gym where they did gymnastics. Some classmates were good at it, some weren't so good at it. Sakura and Meilin began competing in gymnastics and Li groaned again.

That night, Sakura was lying on her bed thinking and Kero was floating around and listening. Sakura talks about how Meilin is on her case and that she loves to compete with her. She also talks about how Meilin is almost trying to pick a fight with her. Kero asks her "Why don't you fight?" Sakura is called down to supper and she finished her conversation with Kero by saying. "I don't want to fight anybody; I just want to capture the cards . . .I'll bring you desert."

Sakura ate supper with Tori and Julian. Julian asked what's wrong and Sakura replied that it's just some stuff. Tori jokes that it was her who attacked another Karate guy. Sakura kicks Tori hard in the shin, and they talk some more about the Martial arts fighter. Apparently, the fighter picks out people who are very good at Martial arts. The challenger beats them and that's all there is to it, she doesn't take their money, it's just a test of strength. The authorities say it's a girl wearing an unusual costume.

Sakura and Madison go to the park. Sakura is dressed in an usual costume that's puffy and strange. Sakura and Kero don't like it but they'll have to comply for Madison's sake. Sakura senses something and sure enough, the fighter appeared. The fighter was actually a clow card know as the Fight card. They also see Meilin who's there in her ceremonial robe as well as Li. Madison commented that now she's here, Sakura can take a hike. Kero got mad and shouted in Meilin's Face that Sakura is the rightful card captor and Meilin had no right. Meilin got confused and messed around with Kero asking if it's a robot or a toy and said to Sakura that you may have the guardian beast but Li has her.

The fight card jumped up and challenged Meilin and they both went into stances. "It wants to fight Meilin?" Well yeah, obviously. Meilin and the Fight card duked it out and it got intense. At first Meilin was winning and then the tables turned and Fight gained the upper hand. Li attacked the Fight card from the side and she took a dip in the pond. Li was mad at her for taking the Lasan board out of the house and they fought a bit. Kero found it out, Although Meilin was a good fighter, she had no magical powers and Meilin heard and got defencive. Li told her to go home then and she refused.

Fight was not defeated and she attacked again. Li got in the way to block it and was pulverized. Li was hurt and Meilin took revenge. "You may be a clow card...but I'm MEILIN RAE!!" She attacked and held her own until fight decided to start participating. Sakura decided after some careful debating to fight as well and used the Power card to enchant her wand to become the perfect club. Sakura struck Fight with it and Fight got KO'ed. Sakura sealed the card then and there.

Meilin was depressed and then threw a huge fit. Meilin got really angry and said that she and Li are going to win all the cards and she takes Li off. Sakura and Madison talk with Kero about how capturing the cards is going to get a little more complicated and wonder what's going to happen now with Meilin hanging around.

Todd's Scoring

Todd Arcana's Rating:    4.3 / 5.0   ^_^

This episode is living proof that Li has worse people to put up with than Sakura. Meilin Rae...what a personality! She's opinioated, loud, and has a terrible temper not to mention being a total brat and showoff. She's also controlling and very possesive. She hasn't changed very much at all from the Japanese version. She however...was Li's cousin and finacee and was shunned in her family for not being magical. There was some cuts but I think the episode was really good overall.

PS:    No matter how many times I see it, the line: "Listen very carefully sweetheart, BACK RIGHT OFF!" said by Meilin...I'll ALWAYS think it's funny.
