Five black VF-1S valkyries are positioned on the
deck of the Prometheus for launch. The only way one
would know they were there is by their blood red
detail along the fuselage and the wings. By far the
most prominent feature is the tail art, proudly
showing a Dragon with its wings flared.
A voice comes over the radio from one of the
valkyries, “Tower, Dragon Leader and Gold flight ready
for launch tower.”
“Roger that Dragon Leader, you are clear for
takeoff, good hunting gentlemen.” Came the reply from
the control room.
After a quick salute to show their ready, the
five valkyries scream off the deck in the direction of
the asteroid belt. After several minutes, Boss radioed
the other four Valks for some last minute
instructions.
“Alright Gold flight lets go find that scout
ship, be prepared for anything there are possible
enemy squads protecting the scouts. Also from here on
in all radio transmission is to be direct sight, short
burst plane to plane, no broadband frequency
transmissions. One last thing…no heroics gentlemen
just get the job done. Dragons report in.”
“Dragon 3, Ran reporting in.”
“Dragon 7, Slicks reporting in.”
”Dragon 8, Mayhem reporting in.”
“Dragon 9, Starkad reporting in.”
“Ok there’s our sector of the belt, here we go,
no more open transmissions beginning now.”

The five Valks broke formation and entered the
belt. Boss and Starkad took the lead while Ran, Slicks
and Mayhem took a flanking position to the rear.
After about 40 min. of scanning, Slicks radioed Ran
saying that he had picked something up ahead of them.
Boss and Starkad had gone to another group of
asteroids to check the area and were out of sight.
Ran sent a transmission back to Slicks and
Mayhem, “Ok let’s go check it out, but remember to
stay covered behind these asteroids to keep the
element of surprise.”
The three moved towards the blip that Slicks had
picked up, they came to one particularly large
asteroid and made their way around to one side. What
they found was a Zentraeti scout ship and it seemed to
be unattended at the moment. Then the three pilots saw
the reason why the ship was by itself, there was a
battle going on deeper in the belt away from the scout
ship, it seemed that Boss and Starkad found the squad
guarding the scout vessel.
“Well, Boss told us that the mission comes first
so lets take the bird out and go help our leader ok.”
Ran sent to Slicks and Mayhem.
“Ok” came from Mayhem.
“Alright" from Slicks.
The three Valks split up and attacked the vessel
from three sides.
Ran came around the asteroid for a full frontal
attack releasing four of his missiles right at the
ship. Slicks slipped under the asteroid and changed to
battloid mode and began pelting the ship with gun pod
fire while Mayhem came from behind the ship and fired
more missiles and laser fire.
The scout ship was so completely overtaken and
surprised by the attack that not one shot was fired in
retaliation. Before you knew it the scout ship was a
hunk of burning space metal due to the well-executed
attack by the three Dragons.

Boss and Starkad made their way to another group
of asteroids as the others went around the opposite
direction.
“It’s just you and me right now Starkad, keep
your eye out.”
“Roger Boss.”
The two pilots moved at a slow pace keeping
their eyes on their instruments and the space around
them. Suddenly they saw 12 Zentraeti Battlepods
heading their way at high speeds.
“Get ready here they come!” Boss radioed, “You
go up I’ll go down then engage.”
“OK.”
The two pilots hit their afterburners and sped
toward the squad of pods, then split off at the last
second each going a different direction.
The pods split up to go after the two veritechs
but by then Boss and Starkad had already turned back
towards the pods and shot past them.
Boss shot several of his missiles at the pods
that had turned to go after Starkad destroying three
of them. Starkad hailed the pods after Boss with laser
fire destroying two of them and crippling two others.
Boss then changed to battloid and engaged three
more pods with his gun pod. Starkad slipped around a
small asteroid and came up behind two pods and shot
them with missiles. Boss destroyed two of the pods
that had turned to fire at Starkad, and then grappled
with one other that got by the laser fire.
Once free of the pods that were coming to engage
him Starkad returned to the two that he crippled,
being the nice guy he was he offered the pilots a
chance to surrender, they answered by targeting
Starkad with their laser cannons.
“A pity to waste your lives so,” he said to
himself, then blasted away with the rest of his
missiles.
Boss finally got the upper hand on the pod he
was grappling with and severely damaged it, then
riddled the cockpit with cannon fire.
“Whew, you ok Starkad?”
“Yeah I’m fine Boss.”
“Guess you guys didn’t need any help after all.”
Ran’s voice came over the radio.
“So I rushed all the way over here for
nothing...bah!” Slicks complained.
“Ok guys, what happened with you?” Boss asked.
“Oh not much just blew the heck outta one ugly
Zent Scout ship” Mayhem replied blandly.
“So all the parts of the mission are complete,
then lets go back to the SDF and report in.”
The five Dragons got back into formation and
flew back to the awaiting SDF to get some rest and see
how the others did in their sectors.
