OVA Series The OVA series is most often considered to be the core Tenchi Anime. It was the first time that Tenchi and company were animated, and the first time that many met the group. Recently, Pioneer rereleased the OVA series in a two episode per tape format. They run roughly $17 apiece.

There are many differences between the OVA and the TV series. First off, all of the girls really are in love with him in the OVA, as opposed to pretty much only Ryoko and Ayeka in the TV. There is more information about Washu - we find out that she was actually a mother at one stage, and why she remains as a child because of it, and more character connectivity - Washu is Ryoko's mother, for instance.

Characters also develop much faster, in fact, a little too fast for my tastes. On the other hand, some character traits, which are seen only a little in the TV series, come farther out into the daylight here. One example is the fact that Ayeka seems to be able to drink just as much, if not more, than Ryoko.

Lately, we;ve been getting a lot of e-mails asking if there will be a third part to the OVA series. Our answer is, we just don't know. However, we do have a strong feeling that there will be. The second movie, which is based on the OVA, introduced us to Mayuka. The story-writers went too far into detail on Mayuka's character for her to be a oneshot, and then there is also the rivalry between Azusa and Yosho. There is the Goddess Tokimi, and Sasami's melding with Tsunami, and, of course, don't forget that Tenchi still hasn't chosen which one of the girls it will be! So really, the only thing to do is to sit back and relax.
