Ryo-oki!
| It's about a young boy named Tenchi Masaki living in rural Japan. Againist his grandpas advice, he enters a forbidden cave. Inside, he finds an ancient demon space pirate named Ryoko and a magical rabbit named Ryo-oki (just the cutest little thing ever!). This in turn leads Tenchi to meeting Princess Ayaeka and Sasami of Planet Jurai. He also meets Mihoshi and Kiyone of the Galaxy Police, and a mad scientist named Washu. They all are somehow starnded on Earth and move in with Tenchi and his Grandparents and father. The problem: they're all madly in love with him!!!
This series is very, very, VERY funny and I highly reccomend it! Watch Tenchi Muyo at 6:00 PM PST every week day on Cartoon Network! They will be airing all the Tenchi Series and have already completed the original Tenchi Muyo. Then, they'll be airing Tenchi Universe and Tenchi in Tokyo.
Anime Spotlight for 4/29/00:
Written By Icanrunforhours and Edited by Anime Kami-Sama
If you say you are a true anime fan stop and ask yourself this question: Have you ever seen and acknowledged any work by Hayao Miyazaki?

Hayao Miyazaki is a simply put genius at writing screenplays, illustrating pictures you would see in your dreams, and putting it in to the best directing movies that I have ever seen. You are now thinking who the hell is this guy and what films did he make. And the answer is that shockingly some of his films have been brought to America already and highly under appreciated by probably even you. Films like KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE and TOTORO are works of Hayao Miyazaki. Miyazaki has made some better-respected films too like PRINCESS MONONOKE and NAUSSICA which was once brought to America but heavily edited and changed and probably not worth seeing (get it on Fansub). He also did the directing, but not the art, of a LUPIN III movie. He may have made only five flims, but that's enough to make him what Osamu Tezuka was to Manga, Miyazaki is that to Anime. You have got to see his flims.
Anime Spotlight for 3/10/00:
Mobile Suit GUNDAM
Mobile Suit Gundam is one of the most popular Anime of all time. Creating many series, including Z Gundam, Gundam 0080, Gundam V, Gundam 0083, The 8th MS Team and many more. It set the standard for Mecha Anime. It has inspired works such as Neon Genesis Evangelion. Gundam has just reached it 20th Anniversy, and new episodes are still coming out in the new series "Turn A Gundam" It is Yoshiyuki Tomino's masterpiece.
After their 20th anversary, the creators started the "Big Bang" Project. This was to make several alternate Gundam Universes that did not exist in the traditional Gundam Timeline (a concept farmiliar to Tenchi fans). The first attempt was G Gundam, which arguablely sucked, though the models sold well. The second attempt was much more succesful. It was Gundam Wing.

The year is AC (After Colony) 175. More than half of the Earth has migrated into colonies in space. The people of Earth and the colonists enjoy a happy life under the leadership of Hiro (spelled "Heero" in dub) Yuy. He has a commitment to total pacifism (anti-war), so everything is very peaceful. However, an unknown gunman assinated Yuy, and communication between the colonies and Earth seized.
In the year AC 195, Earth and Space is ruled by the terrionistic United Earth's Sphere Alliance. They forcely rule everything using giant combat robots called "Mobile Suits." However, rebel citizens of certain colonies are sending new arsenals to the Earth, disgusing them as shooting stars. This Operation is called "Operation Meteor." The arsenals are five highly advanced Mobile Suits made of Gundamian Alloy, called "Gundams." Among these pilots is a boy codenamed "Hiro Yuy." The mission of the Gundam Pilots is quite simple: destroy the Alliance and liberate the colonies.
However, the young teenage piliots get more then they bargained for. The Alliance is overthrown by Trieze Khureshinada's orgainization, OZ. They convince the colonies that the Gundams are enemies, and the pilots are betrayed by their homes. Hopelessly wandering the Universe, the Gundam Pilots search for a reason to exist in the ever-changing world.
Focusing on characters more then the Robots, Gundam Wing is definattly one of the best of the Gundam Series. It's directed by Masashi Ikeda, the same guy that did Ronin Warriors. Check this amazing series out and I gurrantee you'll be a smarter person.
In America, the Anime Series' have had little success. However, Import Gundam Model Kits have been very popular. The only big jump in Gundam's popularity was recently, when Wing began airing on Cartoon Network at 5:30 PST. If you want to learn more about Gundam, these links are your best bets:
Gundamofficial.com: This is the official Gundam Wing website. It's got some spiffy Flash stuff and is very informative.
Gundam.com: This is the best fansite out there. It has a timeline of all the events from the begining of Gundam to Gundam V, Paint Tips, almost daily news, character profiles, and more.
Gundamproject.com: More Gundam info then ever! It's got info on all the Gundam Series, as well as an excellent encyclopedia with information on "Newtypes" and other stuff from the older series'.
Bottom Line: This series is 20 years old. If you're not already a fan, you got some catching up to do.

Anime Spotlight for 3/4/00:
Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, simply put, are milestones in Animation. It is the Startrek of beating the crap out of people.
I don't like Startrek, I'm basing that statement on the fact that books have been written about the Information potrayed in this story of adventure, love, and pure genius.
It is like a soap opera without any damn tacky fake acting. A story of people as they grow up fighting evil and liking it.
Simply the fact that the series' combined had almost 600 episodes is almost enough to tell this legendary story. It is based on an ancient Chinese story called "Legend of the Monkey King."
Dragon Ball started with a comic book. It was about a young boy named Son Goku who had
lived isolated from the world for years in a forest.
A teenage girl named Bulma came to Goku's forest to find 1 of 7
magical orbs called "Dragon Balls." When someone finds all seven Dragon Balls,
they are granted one wish.
Goku, without knowing it,
actually had a Dragon Ball of his own. It was the last possesion
his dead grandfather had left behind. Goku then teamed up with Bulma going
on Adventures, searching for the Dragon Balls and meeting
new friends and enemies. Later, Goku competed in a Tourment called
the "Tenkaichi Boudokai." After making many many
![[Z Warriors]](http://angelfire.com/pokemon/unknowndungeon1/p30.art)
Son Goku becomes a Super Saiya-jin while the other Z Warriors prepare to fight.
| issues,
Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball's creator made the series move several
years forward.
Later, mister Toriyama created an Animated TV series based on DB.
This was not surprising, because Toriyama already had experince
with an Anime, called "Dr. Slump." At the point were the series
moved several years forward, instead of contining with DB,
he created Dragon Ball Z. In this series, Goku discovered that
he is actually an alien called a Saiya-jin from his
brother, Radditsu. The story built from there and I do not
want to ruin this classic for you. The best place to learn
more about DB, DBZ and even the spinoff DBGT is to go to a place like Planet Namek. Once you have become fluent in DB knowledge, go to a site like Frieza Lives on.
