Red's Reviews: Fragments Continuation Title: Fragments Author: Linda Shen Status: Ongoing Original Rating: 8.2 This is a fanfic that I quite honestly stumbled upon. I clicked the wrong link on a page I was visiting, and ended up looking at the Fragments title page. At the time, I wasn't happy. I bookmarked Fragments and went back to the previous page to try again. A week later I revisited Fragments, having seen the author post a part of this story to the FFML-R. It was a later chapter, so I just read the summary of previous events and read the whole thing at the main site. Bonanza! Quite simply, Fragments is excellent. Good dialogue, great plot, and lots of promise for future chapters. Plot: Very good. Slightly (heck, more than slightly) dark in nature, this fanfic goes or makes references to things that others in the Ranma world don't, and wouldn't dare. I won't mention them here by name, because quite frankly the thought of some of them makes me shudder. But oh my goodness, their use in this story is just perfect. There were some good surprises (for example: Ranma's chosen profession, the true nature of the Spring he fell into), and some evil ones (Yuki's dark secret, Akane's plight, and what Cologne's prophecy foretold, just to name a few). At every turn I found something new to keep me reading. When I got to the end of what was available I was actually swearing because I didn't want to stop there. Now, as I started reading, I was getting concerned with the fact that the story was set twelve years in the future without the necessary backstory. My concerns were alleviated when I realized that the story contained frequent flashbacks. These flashbacks were timed superbly, telling us just what we needed to know of the past when we needed it, hinting at even more intriguing bits to come. Characters and Characterizations: Excellent. I saw nothing that could deviate from even the strictest canonic interpretation of the Ranma cast. I could easily believe these characters acting this way given the proper circumstances. Dialogue: Excellent as well. Intelligent, well written, and fits the characters doing the speaking. I could find no faults at all with the spoken plots and conversations. Story Mechanics: Very good. Good grammar, construction, and story flow. Not once did I have to stop and re-read anything because it didn't make sense. Overall: Fragments is a fanfic that I would wholeheartedly recommend that everyone read. It's easy to read, very entertaining, and just GRABS you by the brain and won't let go. I am proud to call myself a Fragments fan. I await further chapters with great anticipation. Notice that this isn't a very long review? What else do I need to say? Miss out on Fragments and you miss out on a truly great fanfic.
