Most of these characters are teenagers. Neither the experiences they go through nor the extraordinary powers or abilities they have can change the fact that, while in many ways they are adults, the major martial artists of Nerima are still quite young They may not be normal by society's standards but they do have the capability to change and grow. They might not want to but the possibility is there. Change is inevitable. Those who fail to adapt fail to see reality for what it is. That is a fact of life too often ignored.
Years down the line, many if not all of these players who have managed to keep up in the game of life will be little changed in personality. They will no doubt be remarkably similiar to their adolescent counterparts, but even so, these individuals will still be older, wiser, and hopefully more mature.
There is no reason they can not start the process now. And why wait at all? Wisdom knows no limits of age. But in this case, it may need a push...
