Jason walks slowly through the streets, thinking about today, Halloween. You'd think a person who had been told all his life how plain and ugly he was would love a day when he could hide himself, but he hates it. Masks only temporarily hide him from the truth, and even then, they are only masks, most people can tell who you are no matter what mask you wear. He scowls at the thought of going to the Gay Straight Alliance Halloween party tonight, but he doesn't want to go home and sit all alone and dream about being at the party, so might as well go and be a wallflower.
Jason stops suddenly when he sees a gorgeous Scarlet Pimpernel costume in the window of a shop. It looks hand made with a gorgeous mask and is extremely detailed for aHalloween costume for sale. Jason slips inside the shop as an elderly man greets him, "Welcome to the Magic of Halloween. You are our fourth costumer! We're so glad to have you."
"Fourth costumer? But it's Halloween and you have such wonderful costumes! That's so unusual!" Jason exclaims.
"Well many people see the extravagant costumes in the window and think we are expensive, plus such detailed costumes are hard to keep up, so they just don't bother," the elderly man explains. "Now come in and look around, if you see anything you like I'll be more than happy to help you out."
Jason nods his head and mumbles a thanks as he looks around the store. He smiles at the gorgeous Masks of Comedy and Tragedy hanging on the wall, but they appear to have no costume with them so he moves on. He looks around, nothing catching his interest. Finally, a costume catches his eye. He grins as he sees the irony of the situation. "Phantom of the Opera!" he laughs as he slips on the mask and the cape. He quickly tries it on and decides to buy it. "Wow! Only 10 bucks, that's so cheap," he says, looking at the details of the tuxedo with the gorgeous satin cape. He buys the costume and heads for home, excited for the first time every about his costume and glad that it happens to fit his heavy body.

Jason slips on his costume as he gets ready to go to the party. He slips the mask as the final touch. He doesn't even notice the sudden change in the air around him.

Few people notice the handsome blond man wearing the Phantom of the Opera costume enter, but they do not go long without seeing him and many of the guys check him out. He pays no attention to them and leans up against the wall. Suddenly a blond vampire with visible dark roots steps up to the man. "Hello, would you dance with me?" the vampire asks in beautiful french accent.
"I would love to Emile," the man responds.
"How do you know who I am?" Emile asks, not recognizing this man.
"Umm.. Emile, I'm Jason. Don't you remember me?" the man asks, feeling a bit hurt.
"Jason? But you look so different, so beautiful!" Emile says.
"Umm.. OK," Jason just nods his head thinking that it is the costume.
As the night progresses, Emile and Jason grow closer. They end up whispering to each other and kissing softly while everyone else danced. Jason begins to notice how many of the guys are looking at him, at first he thinks it's just because of Emile, but as the night continues, he realizes they are staring at him.
Mikey and several other guys come up to him to introduce themselves. He quirks his brow and tells them who he is and they cannot believe it. He continues to wonder about the strange circumstances of the night.

The night slowly begins to close down and Jason still has no answers to his questions. As he slips off the mask for the midnight unmasking, he sighs and feels so frustrated and confused by the whole night.
A mist begins to engulf the entire party. The old man from the store appears in the mist and smiles at Jason. "The costume has chosen to give its power to you. You have been transformed by its magic and though all it's magic has gone to make you beautiful, I wish for you to have the costume," the old man explains. "After tonight nobody will remember you as you were before and everything will change. Enjoy your love and your life that you have earned."
Jason thanks the old man and holds the cape close to his body. As the fog fades away he slips his arm around Emile and stares into his deep brown eyes. "I have loved you since I first saw you and I hope we can live a happy life together," Jason whispers into Emile's ear as he kisses him.
Emile smiles and simplely whispers, "Je t'aime aussi."
