Probably too drunk to be ranting, but at least I've got my nicotine fix. That should keep me from naming names.

Anyway, the thing that's pissing me off right now is non-canon deaths.

Now, with the Sailor Scouts, I'll give you some leeway. They die and get reborn all the time. So, if you write a fic in which the scouts die and are reborn, hey, par for course. Well, as long as it's Sailor Moon's power bringing them back and not Pluto deciding to diddle with time.

But Sailor Moon villains...well, they either die or they don't. And they die at specific times.

While totally non-canon deaths make me want to punch something(not the computer because fixing the screen cost way too much)semi-non-canon deaths make me want to boot too.

See, most Sailor Moon villains die. While the scouts come back and could die later, the villains tend to die and stay dead. Or they become good and either live as normal humans or die anyway. And you can't really change when the villains die...

And even if you go for the "villains getting brought back by Galaxia/anything else" thing(hey, I'm willing to mix and match my anime and manga to do some generals/scouts couples...with one noteable exception)the villains died at some point. And you can't really change this.

The basis for this is a Amazon Trio fic I read. It had the shounen ai it promised, but it commited two of my majorpet peeves.

No, neither Tiger's-Eye nor Hawk's-Eye professed their undying love for a Sailor Scout(I kept reading simply because they both wanted Fish-Eye), but...well...pet peeve the first, a decent amount of time elapsed between Fish-Eye going back to Serena's house and death.

Now, from what I could gather from the show, after checking Darien's dreams, that same day Fish-Eye grabbed Rini and headed back to the circus. I could be wrong, but I didn't get the impression that Rini had been AWOL for to long before the Amazon Trio's last stand.

This fic gave the Trio another week after the Darien failure incident...and I'm of the opinion that, if you're writing post-Darien-as-target, things better wrap up pretty quickly. As in, there are no targets after Darien(Serena doesn't count. Absolutely no effort was put into going after her.)

It also had the semi-canon death. Things sort of happened as planned...but with a few critical differences...

I'm not going into details because the fic did keep my interest, but it was still kind of...ecchh.

Now, I feel that canon can be tweaked on the minor details, but as for character deaths...what you see is what you get.

Too many fics have been ruined for me lately by some little flaw that just really pisses me off.(admittedly, some of my beef with the end of the above fic could just be because I lean more towards Hawk/Fish than Tiger/Fish, but I still hate the semi-non-canon things)

For example, I found myself reading a post Stars epic. I lose interest in epics quickly...I like reading books, but reading 20 some chapters on the internet...

Anyway, this had a slight crossover element. I was willing to skim that bit because the parts about the scouts' pasts was damn interesting. Then, enter the original character scout.

True, this one was slow witted, but still...

Again, no naming names, but as for the most popular of made up scouts:

Sailor Earth: Tuxedo Mask is the freaking guardian of earth. And only women can be sailor scouts, and I think Darien's long lost twin sister or whatever would be something Naoko would probably have mentioned. The only potential Sailor Earth I'd accept would be Sailor Mini-Moon's adult title--at least she's from earth, her dad's the earth guardian, and with the sailor crystal thing, she can never upgrade to Sailor Moon.

Sailor Sun: While we can pretend that the various dead planets of the solar system were once inhabitable by Silver Millenium magic, how the hell would a giant ball of fire ever be inhabitable? Sailors Mercury, Venus, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto have castles either on or in orbit around their planets, and lets say that people used to be able to live there, long long ago in a galaxy right here. No atmosphere is a lot different from a giant ball of freaking fire.

Besides, Darien(you know, earth boy from the above criticism?) is a Leo(whoo!) Leo is ruled by the sun. To get my drift, Sailor Jupiter is a Saggitarius. Saggitarius is ruled by Jupiter. True, Darien doesn't protect the sun, but his ancient kingdom is/was watched over by Helios, ineffective boy priest who's named after the freaking sun god.

Sailor Star: Yeah, there's a lot of stars. At least pick one...

In conclusion to this bit, ugh, original sailor scouts. Especially the bulk of them that are stronger than Sailor Moon and all the other solar soldiers put together.

(Yeah, I've forced my own Mary Sues on the poke-fic world. But they were at least as dysfunctional as the real characters...)
