Slayers

Slayers, unlike most anime cartoons, is meant to be a comedy. It pokes fun at almost anything, even being chased by a guy with a posessed knife.

The first episode starts with Lina Inverse, sorceress in training, attacking the Dragonfang's hideout. Deciding that most of the gold and stuff that they had in the first place was stolen, it wouldn't be wrong to take some of it for herself. So she takes some stuff and sets out on the road.

Just before she gets into town, Lina is confronted by a group of the Dragonfangs, who have an unusual offer. They want her to join their gang and take over as leader. This is about when Gourry shows up. Lina had refused the offer and was preparing to fight her way out, when he jumps off the side of the road and starts fighting for her. Lina figures that this is the part of the story where the heroine cheers on her knight in shining armor, so she sits back and encourages Gourry as well as she can. Once Gourry gets a good look at her, he starts complaining about how he hadn't wanted to rescue some stupid little school girl (hey, I guess blondes are dumb...). He figures that the best thing to do would be to take Lina into town. They stop at a restaraunt once they arrive, and Lina is hired to kill a giant dragon that belonged to the Dragonfangs. You'd be suprised how many jokes you can get out of that.

I hope this has given you some idea of what the series is like. This anime contains nothing that you haven't seen if you watch any tv at all. Its main focus is comedy, and it's done pretty well at that. One of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life.
