In The Beginning...
"In the Year 1999 (then in the future), high
above Macross Island
in the South Pacific, a phenomenal event occurred in the skies that altered the
course of Human history."
A Gigantic
Alien Spaceship broke through the very fabric of Hyperspace, on a collision
course with the Earth. During its uncontrolled fall from the sky, the
plummeting Space Fortress produced shockwaves of incredible force. The craft
measured nearly three-quarters of a mile in length; there was no sign of the
Alien crew. The Armored Hull had taken the brunt of the damage, leaving much
of the sophisticated Techno-systems intact. What remained of the Giant Battle
Fortress gave evidence of a civilization that was light-years ahead of
Earth's most advanced thinking.
Renaming the
vessel the SDF-1, the World's most brilliant minds formed a Research Team, to
study and restore the Alien Space Fortress. Deciphering parts of documents
found onboard, they labored to unravel the secrets of an incredibly complex
technology. The Space Fortress's design and capabilities are still not
completely understood, but what Earth Scientists have learned has lead to a
combination of Computer and Robotic technology, called "ROBOTECH".
The Alien
Race, known as the Zentraedi, have followed the SDF-1, and now the Earth is
under attack in what has been named the First Robotech War. Young Rick Hunter,
an amateur flyer caught up in the Planet-wide struggle, has become an
unwilling Veritech fighter pilot, and eventually Earth's most unlikely Hero
in the first ROBOTECH Saga known as "Macross"...

Continuity
The most important aspect of this TC is to create an interesting
storyline that can be surprising, yet not contradict the existing series or
written material devoted to its following. The Story of REF will follow the
adventures of the newly launched Pioneer mission of the SDF-3 from Earth as
it enters the Fantoma system. The REF's mission objective: Avoid a Second
Robotech War by making peaceful "First Contact" with the makers of
the Zentraedi race and origin of the SDF-1; The Robotech Masters. The REF
approaches Fantoma's third moon known as Tirol, the
home world of the Masters, only to discover that an "unknown"
hostile Alien Armada has invaded the planet and decimated the once mighty
Tirolian society. Admiral Rick Hunter and his Expeditionary Force find
themselves engaged in a very different kind of campaign than originally
conceived; a bitter war for survival against the powerful yet mysterious
Invid. These beings struggle to control the Galaxy's most powerful energy
source, a substance derived from the Invid's indigenous Flower of Life called
"Protoculture".
The
History Behind My Site
REF is based on the 85 Episode ROBOTECH Anime series that originated as three
separate "Japanamation" movies of the early 80's. ROBOTECH's
creator Carl Macek compiled these movies into one "Three Saga"
series, airing in North America in 1985. Until
recently, this epic example of intelligent storytelling in Anime had been
kept alive by the efforts of a small number of individuals devoted to its
fanfare. It is because of their efforts, and the massive following that still
remains, that Harmony Gold has decided to resurrect the series on DVD, and
devoted a Web page to its legend at http://www.robotech.com/.
REF takes place after the first "Macross" Saga ...and comes full
circle to blend with the third chapter known as "New Generation".
