Jade's Section 2009

Great spring and cool summer!
Conventions! I went to Anime Expo and the San Diego Comic Con this summer! Yes, it took out a bulk of my finances, but I survived (whew!). I went to Anime Expo in Los Angeles as press. I went to Comic Con as a volunteer. They were both amazing! I got to see stars and grab some cool schwag!

Editor in Chief So now I'm the editor in chief for Anime3000.com, which means I work right under the CEO/owner of the site. Hopefully, Anime3000 can become a top competitor in the anime industry for its quality.

Bought Manga Studio Debut so I can work on my computer for making manga. I'm currently working on the mini-manga for Anime3000 every month. Now, if only I can control the drawing tablet pen, everything would be fine and dandy!

Redesigning my bedroom in the Asian-inspired fashion. I've been doing floor plans so it can turn out well!

Finishing up the last days of college now! I graduate in May with 2 degrees! Whoo hoo!

Taking Japanese classes this fall on Saturdays so I can become more proficient in Japanese. I plan to take the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) in December. Wish me luck!

Most Memorable Things of the Year
Going to Japan! What achieves your dreams better than going to the Land of Hello Kitty? I had such a great time, and I made so many friends!

Becoming an editor for Anime3000.com I know, I know, I'm a traitor to my own anime website, but this is something I've always wanted to do--become a part of another great site within the capacity as a writer.

Being on a Podcast For a long time, I've wanted to have my own online radio show or something equivalent to it. Now my wish came true!

Getting on Homecoming Court So, in real life, I managed to make it onto a really tough spot in college, and that's being 1 out of 34,000 students for a chance of being the next Homecoming Queen. (No, I didn't win, but I had fun anyways!)

Buying a bookcase to put most of my manga Sounds like a little trivial thing, but I've been needing a bookcase. There were so many boxes here filled with manga, it was crowding my room!

Running for Student Government Never thought it would actually happen, but somehow, I had the chance to run a hard campaign for the next Vice President at my college. (No, I didn't win it either, however, a lot of doors opened up for me).

Took a Digital Media class I finally improved my skills and gained some new ones in learning more about Photoshop, Illustrator, and In-Design. Now I can make logos, magazine layouts, and covers better than I have ever made them before!

Obama Won! I'm no Democrat! I'm an independent, but even Obama had me voting for change--the power to believe in not only his change, but the change for myself.

Gas Prices Dropping Do you know how much budgeting I had to do a week just for those bizarra gas prices? Now I can afford food.

Being a President I am the president of the Black Student Science Organization at my college...and I'm loving it! At first, it scared me. I mean, I jumped from being the Tutoring Chair to President! Who does that?!

My Propensity to Japanese When I went to Japan for 2 weeks, I picked up Japanese very quickly without taking a class or anything before going. I could understand most Japanese phrases by the time I returned, and the Consul of Japan Representative was very impressed with my quick learning.

Completely Watched Death Note Such a rip off in the second season!

Japan!
I finally went to Japan! If you want to read the adventures to Japan, please click onto this link to my blog: http://jadesescape.blogspot.com. I don't know why I called it "Jade's Escape into Reality". I think sometimes I have to return to reality because it's part of the norm. Aw well...

Inspirations
Writing comes to me easily because it was my first love, but I always read. I have a ton of magazines and books underneath my bed, on my bookshelf, and in many other boxes scattered around my room. I find myself reading articles online. I practice most of my writing skills for scholarship essays and reviews for Anime3000.com.

Drawing doesn't come to me so easily. It's a learned skill, I think, though, other people believe it's something uber special. I'm surprisingly not that passionate about art, but I still continue to improve my skills anyway. I refer from manga and comic books to learn more about how stories are set up. I have a bookshelf and boxes filled with manga to show. I also watch anime because of the stories and the animation. My favorite animator is Kazuto Nakazama (anime sequences in Kill Bill). I also have a few manga-ka and doushinji that I've been fans of since I first looked at their artwork. My favorite Korean character designer is Hyunh-Tae Kim (Magna Carta).

Web designing isn't something I necessarily like to do. I stare at a computer monitor for hours at a time, using both Dreamweaver and Photoshop to create a good-looking website. I look to other websites to create websites, and when there are things I don't know, I always turn to books or the Net for some tutorials. I'm a big fan for asking for help.

Jade's Section 2007

I don't know where this section came from... I guess it's an area to get to know me, Jade, the webmistress of Anime Ascendant. These are just random collections of this and rants that I do.

This Week I guess you can call this section my occasional rant about topics. I try to apply them to a certain anime or two just so it relates to my site.

Contests I've Entered (2007)
Avatar Contest at Scarlet Tears
I decided to give an avatar contest a chance. I'm really not big on joining contests unless I know I'll win or it's just for the hell of it. It's not that I doubt my ability at competitive creativity. I just don't get my hopes up too much.

Here are my contest entries:

I can't believe I used pink! I hate pink! I'm a blue person!

Ranting about myself I'm also a reviewer at Anime3000.com, and it's great. I'm always on the Anime 3000 Forum, chatting about anime, manga, movies, and American TV shows and comics.
