Mars collony has been invaded. Earth must send out a military power to try and take mars back. This is where the story begins. Our main hero 'Akito' was born on Mars. As a youth, Akito and one of his friends were playing around with some heavy equipment. Akito looses control, and is later punished by having a control chip implanted into his hand. These chips allow control over machinery, like construction machines, or heavy battle mechs. Akito didn't want the chip but he had no choice in the matter.
We later see Akito in the future after the first attack on Mars. He awoke on Earth, and had no knowledge of how he got there. Now in the future he is a cook at a dinner, and quite pleased to do only that. Unfortunately it is not to be. He meets up with the Captain of the Nadesico. A girl he knew from back on Mars. They didn't reccognise eachother at first and so they parted ways, but the Captain dropped a picture wheh she left. It was of her and Akito as a child playing on Mars. He realized then who she was, and tried to get the picture back to her before the Nadesico went off to fight for Mars.
Once at the military base, the recruiter notices the control chip on Akitos' hand and thinks he's a mech pilot so they let him in. He eventually stays with the Nadesico as a cook, and as a Mech pilot since they're short handed. Strangley, Akito seems to attract many women. ^ ^ ;
This leads to some interesting romace, or shall I say near romance moments. Needless to say it's a very enjoyable series.
