Zelda watched her map impassively as the nine marks of crests entered her territory. "The Digidestined are coming, Sysamon."
"So what will we do with them first?"
"First we'll see what we can do, you and I."
Chan and Taki lagged behind the others, much like Tarini and Vari had. As they ran to help the others when they heard the cries for help, Taki wondered just what he would see.
They found the others again hanging in a net. A girl laughed derisively at the captured Digidestined. When she noticed Chan and Taki, she turned to face them.
"I am a Dark Digidestined. My crest is the Crest of Darkness," she said. "Digivolve, Sysamon." As the Digimon showed up, Chan remembered his last encounter with her. Chan thought he knew what would happen.
"Sysamon digivolve to...Darkgatomon."
Chan scowled. "Let's see if you can handle a star Digimon now. Power of the Stars!"
"Parmon Star digivolve to...Staparmon."
Darkgatomon was faster than Staparmon. "Thunder Slash!" The attack's power forced Staparmon to dedigivolve. Chan was shocked that his star Digimon had lost.
Before Taki could react, Darkgatomon attacked again. "Skybolt!" A bolt of lightning hurtled down toward Chan.
Aware his partner was in trouble, Parmon reacted quickly.
"Parmon digivolve to...Leopomon."
Leopomon was a sturdy feline. He had a lion's mane around his face and shoulders. Tawny fur, marred only by black spots, covered his body. His tail, that of a lion, swung slowly from side to side. He pulled Chan out of the way of Darkgatomon's attack.
"My turn, Darkgatomon." Leopomon leapt at Darkgatomon. "Thunder Paws!" His front paws glowed and crackled with light and electricity. He landed and hit Darkgatomon with his glowing paws.
She leapt back toward her partner before dedigivolving. The Dark Digidestined wasn't happy with the way the battle had turned out. "You'll have to make it into my fortress to face me again," she said. She and Sysamon then sauntered away.
Once they were gone, Leopomon turned to take care of the net. "Coming down!" He leapt up and bit the rope holding the net up, severing it. He managed to get to one side before landing and dedigivolving.
A pink light surrounded Chan's digivice. Curious, he held it in his hand. As the light faded, it revealed the Crest of Light.
Scott watched a second Crest of Light appear on his map. "So...another Digidestined has a Crest. Can't wait to see how Zelda will deal with this one."
Kari looked nervous now. Curious, Ashi asked, "What's wrong?"
Kari said, "I've been thinking."
Ashi was unable to see what would make her worried by thinking. "About what?"
"Well, I can't help thinking how similar our first encounter with the Despair Dark Digidestined and this one are. And if what happens next is similar..."
"Well," Taki asked. She now had the attention of almost the whole group. Only Jihan and Glen were not paying attention to her words.
"Well, if it is, then I'm in danger. They'll try to capture me like they captured TK."
Tai placed his hands on Kari's shoulders. "We won't let you get captured, Kari. I promise."
She smiled at Tai. "Thanks, Tai. I know you'll never fail to help me." Tai nodded.
"Now let's get moving. After all, we are going to have to stop these Dark Digidestined," Allison said.
