Leda: The Fantastic Adventure of Yohko

Onward, er, Backward!

Hecate strikes again!

What if you composed a song to give you courage and it turned out to be the key to another world? That is what happens to Yohko, a high school girl trying to get up the courage to ask out her crush. The song she writes takes her to another world where the evil warlord Zel (^_^) is attempting to cause mass destruction. Yohko turns out to be the warrior of Leda, the long-vanished goddess of this other world. With her newfound powers and friends, Yohko sets out to stop Zel and save both this world and her own.
The animation in Leda is dreamy and pastel. The whole thing is actually reminicent of a muted Rainbow Brite. The story is fascinating and pulls you in, despite the low-tech sound and weird British dub. The animation is lovely - Yohko's child-of-the-80's look is realistic, as are the bikinis that inevitably show up. The show is peppered with random songs which are quite pretty, as well as shots of a fantasy landscape out of a Tamora Pierce novel.
To sum up, this show has it all - fantasy, mecha, good music, good animation, romance, and a guy named Zel.
Watch it. It's fun.
