I fell in love with Pembroke Welsh Corgis in 2003 after showing in the IABCA showring; happy, stubby, fearless and just INCREDIBLY addorable...who could resist! After reasearching for many months I started looking for the perfect Cogi to love and show, I contacted many breeders about the availability of show prosects and started attending local AKC shows. Having dealt with some of the top Shepherd breeders in the US/Germany, as well as responsibly bred/show for many years; I figured getting a show quality puppy should be fairly easy! I really couldn't be more wrong! I searched for 4yrs, in the US and other countries for a quality female puppy, and a breeder willing to place one with me without crazy terms(I have co-owned quite a few of my Shepherds, but have never seen terms as crazy as some of the PWC breeders out there!). Just by chance I called Nancy & Susan at LS Corgis; they were very responsible and knowledgable in their breeding program and had an obvious love for their dogs & the breed. They also had a litter available soon with 2 show quality females. When I saw the babies, I held Mattie while the breeder stacked the other puppy and I was done for! LS Stawberry Wine, aka "Mattie", joined our family about a week later.
Mattie is everything I ever wanted and more, from her character to her structure. She is a typefull female with a beautiful head and expression. She is exactly the "type" of Corgi I was looking for. Mattie's tempernment is awesome; she is very sound, relaxed and affectionate. She is quite fearless with our German Shepherds, and has never met a stranger. We plan on pursueing Mattie's AKC Champion title as soon as she turns 6mos and showing in IABCA for fun. Hopefully, as long as Mattie does well in the showring and passes her health clearances (OFA/CERF/vWD), she will be the foundation of our Pembroke Welsh Corgi breeding program in the far future. For now, Mattie is having fun being a spoiled rotten puppy!
