THERE WILL BE NO SAILOR STARS DUB! Sorry, but the last posting about the new Sailor Stars dub is a fake! Rebo Valence has emailed me and said that it was originaly an April Fool's prank, but people have been sending it without the part that says April Fool's! I have deleted the last news posting to try to limit any further misconceptions.

Rumor has it that CN will be canceling Sailor Moon! Some online friends also said that CWI is dubbing the Stars season and will be released in 2002. I don't know if either of these are true, so I'll just leave it at that.

ADV Films are releasing the 82 original episodes of which DiC dubbed. There are 4 episodes on each tape and costs about $12.98. The first 2 tapes have been released on Nov. 21. Tapes 3 and 4 will be released on Dec. 5th. ADV doesn't have plans for a DVD release, only VHS tapes. Pioneer and Cloverway weren't too happy with ADV's release of the Sailor Moon episodes, because the two complanies were planning to release 6, then 4 or more episodes every 3 months starting in February 2001.
In July earlier this year, Terry Hawkes, the second voice actress for Serena, gave birth to twins, both a girl and a boy. Their names are Alexa and Jacob.

Barbra found CWI's phone number and called to ask about episode #119 that didn't air. They told her they thought it would be innappropiate and chose not to air it. Now Cloverway is working on that episode and will aired it on the second run of the Sailor Moon S series.

The controversery over Amara and Michelle in the S series appeared in the newspapers. Click here to view it. A friend sent me the scan of this article, but she doesn't know which newspaper it was from. The words are a bit fuzzy, so I took the time to type up what I could read from it. There might be some misspellings, but I only typed up what I saw. There are a few words I'm not sure of, but I did my best.
"Kissing cousins may bring controvery"
"Cartoon Network juggles controvery topics contained in the "Sailor Moon S" series"
"by Paul Debert"
"Dubbing an anime series into English must be an incredibly difficult task. Perhaps you might remember the old 'Speed Racer' cartoon where characters would ramble on and on as their voice actors would desperately try to get enough dialogue to match the lip movements resulting in rambling dialogue that sounded like this: 'Yes, I will sabotage the Mach 5, then Speed Racer will not win the race, for he can not win the race if the Mach 5 is sabotaged, and then since he can not win the race, I shall win the Race. Ah-hahaha-hahaha.'"
"Judging by modern anime television shows today ranging from 'Pokemon' to 'Gundam Wing,' the quality of voice dubbing in these shows has greatly improved. However, American production companies are still facing numerious problems with important shows over here due to content issues. In Japan there are far fewer restrictions on television dealing with issues of touchy subjects like sexuality and religion. There are far fewer restrictions on televised budity and violence. This puts production companies and television stations in a difficult bind because American anime fans want these shows to be as loyal to the Japanese originals as possible in a time when teachers, parents and politicians are constanly calling for less sex, adult themes and violence on television. They constantly run the risk of either alienating their cult audiences or facing the wrath of angry would-be censors. It's a difficult line to walk."
"Cartoon Network recently proceeded to walk what may be the narrowest line in the history of animation when at the rewuest of an extensive fan campaign they proceeded to import the third season of the popular anime series 'Sailor Moon,' entitled 'Sailor Moon S.' It was a basic example of the laws of supply and emand being placed into action. The fans wanted the unseen episodes brought over here. 'Sailor Moon' ranks among Cartoon Network's highest rated shows. One would naturally assume that it would simply be a matter of time before the new wpisodes were brought over. Why did the fans have to wait for so long ?"
"Partially because of an economic standoff between Turner Broadcasting (which owns Cartoon Network) and Disney, where DiC studios owned the distribution rights to the show until recently. However the main reason that television executives have been uneasy to respond to fan responses has beed regarding the show's content. Two of the show's new characters, Amarah and Michelle (Named Haruka and Michiru in the show's original Japanese incaration), are lesbians."
"Gay characters are not uncommon in Japanese anime, even those aimed and marketed ar children. Meanwhile, over here in the states, gay characters are a rarity in television in general, and almost unherd in animation (aside from Smithers on 'The Simpons' and possibly Dr. Quest and Race Bannon.)"
"You might remember all the hoopia that occurred last year when Jerry Falwell drew up protests that Tinky Winky on the children's show 'Teletubbies' was gay, based on teh grounds that the character was purple and carried a handbag. However, unlike that absurd fiasco, any protests over Amarah and Michelle's sexual affiliation would not be without reason. They clearly are gay, nerics croutor Naoka Takeuchi has plainly admitted so in the interviews."
"Not wanting to draw protests or risk losing sponsors, Cartoon Network and Cloverway Inc.'s handling of the show has understandably been rather conservative, trying it's best to appease both parties. While the 'l' word has yet to be uttered by a single character, the gay subject still exists. However, the two media outlets may have very well ended up shooting themselves in teh foot. What could go down as one of the most dubious moments of judgement in television history occured in one of last week's episodes, when in what appears to be an attempt to draw attention away from the character's relationship, the two girls referred to each other as 'cousins.'"
"It was an utterly surreal moment that I couldn't help but respond with an chorus of laughter. In an attemp to avoid controversy, Cartoon Network and Cloverway took a sensitive issue and actually made it even more potentially offensive by inadvertanly throwing in a guggestion of incest."
"However I suppose one can't really blame Cartoon Network for trying to find a happy medium between the demands of loyal fans and would be censors. I certainly with that one existed."

Cloverway Tioe's American company is dubbing the new eppies, not Dic. For more info, go visit SOS. As for the voices, Linda Ballantyne is Serena/Sailor Moon. Mina and Amy were also replaced. But atleast Rei, Lita, Luna and Artemis stayed the same. The reason Serena's voice changed is because Terri Hawkes (the voice actress for Serena last season) is needed to do the voice of Serena in the Super S movie. But don't worry, she'll be back for the Super S episodes.

The dubbed Sailor Moon S movie will be out on May 23, and the SuperS dub shouldn't be coming out any later than August. In the lastest issue of Entertainment Weekly (the May 26 issue), there was a review for the Sailor Moon S movie. This is what the review said:
"For The (LUCKILY) uninitiated: SAILORMOON is a Japanese cartoon that
enjoyed a brief spell of popularity between Beanie Babies and Pokemon. In this NAUSEATINGLY SACCHARINE installment-the second of three movies-our youthful heroines battle a wicked SNOW QUEEN and her meanie
minions. Still, the SNUGGLY, FEEL-GOOD homilies spouted
by schoolgirls dressed in micro-skirts and knee-high boots should enchant impressionable 6-year-old girls and Creepy Middle-aged men alike."
Then the critic gave the movie a "D." Are you mad ? Go to the Message Bord to share what you think !
