CONCERTS
Y100 FEASTival - December 15, 2002
Philadelphia, PA
Y100 FEASTival Band Set List(in order):
Seether, Queens of the Stone Age, New Found Glory, Zwan, Good Charlotte, Coldplay.
The Y100 FEASTival was a Philly radio concert that is held every year. The only reason I went was to see Coldplay live...I really wasn't interested in the other bands playing at the concert. This would be my first time seeing Coldplay live.
I took the bus with my sister to Philly and got into the town around noon. I hung out at my sister's apartment for a bit and ate lunch. Then, I took the subway to the stadium and arrived there by 2pm. I got a really good place in line and chatted with some people about the bands that would be performing. The doors didn't open until 5pm and everyone was freezing their asses of by 4.
When they finally opened the doors, people rushed in and showed their tickets. I got a good spot up front and I kicked myself(not literally) for not bringing a camera because it was so easy to sneak one in. Most of the performances were okay, some bands I really didn't like. The only other band I liked after the concert other than Coldplay was Queens of the Stone Age. They were pretty good.
Lots of people left after Good Charlotte performed which I was kind of upset about. But I could also understand it because Coldplay's music is so different from the other bands. There were mosh pits when every band performed except Coldplay(which I don't mind because mosh pits aren't exactly my cup of tea...). The band came out on stage at around 10:30 pm and they all immediately took their spots. Chris(the lead singer) sat down at his piano and said something like, "We want to make sure you have a great time, so we are going to pour our heart and soul into this performance."
Coldplay Song Setlist(may be a little mixed up from lack of memory...)
Politik, In My Place, One I Love, Trouble, Don’t Panic, Clocks, Yellow, The Scientist, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
After saying that, the band went right into the song Politik. As I said before, the performance was fucking awesome! One I Love was great...that was one song I really, really wanted to hear live. Before ending the song Trouble, Chris started singing Nelly’s Hot In Herre... The crowd went insane and started laughing. During Don’t Panic, Chris made sure to bring the attention over to Jonny(lead guitarist) who did a harmonica solo. He then threw the harmonica into the crowd.
Right before one of the songs, Chris said, "I know this might sound cheesy...Like something out of Beverly Hills 90210, but we really appreciate you coming to see us perform. It makes us feel cool. Thank you!" :) During Yellow, some girl got into a fight with a guy right in front of me and started yelling at him. People were saying she was just really drunk...I just rolled my eyes and thought, ‘Please take this fight somewhere else. I want to enjoy the concert!’
Chris also said something before the song like, "After this performance we’ll go back to England and have tea and biscuits or whatever it is we English people eat." lol. He also made sure to advertise his favorite website...maketradefair.com. All four band members performed great. The only one I really couldn’t see well was Will(the drummer) because I was pushed too far to the left. The only thing that I would have to complain about the performance is that I wish it had been longer! :)
The band only played for about 45 minutes. You know what they say, time flies when you’re having fun. And I did have fun...the other fans around me were really getting into the songs. We all sang along and cheered and clapped really loud. And the band seemed to be having fun as well. After The Scientist, the three band members waved good-bye nicely to the crowd and left. Chris then did a short version of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas on his piano. And then it was over...After this concert, I definetly wanted to see them live again.
