SHATTER By Ryoko Saotome Part Two ~I may crack but I'll never shatter Tested, wasted over and over I may crack but it doesn't matter In the darkness I'll never shatter~ Meredith Brooks, "Shatter"(1) Duo looked up at the clock on the wall with growing concern. It was definitely not like Wufei to be this late coming back from his evening walk. With a sigh, the braided pilot rose from his chair and headed for the front door. Quatre looked up just in time to see his friend's troubled expression. "Duo-kun? What's wrong?" he asked, a touch of concern in his own voice. The violet-eyed teen paused and glanced back at his friend. "Please tell me you saw Fei come back a little while ago?" he said, leaving it as a question. Quatre frowned and slowly shook his head. "That's not like him," he said, closing his book and standing. "I'll go ask Trowa if he's seen him. I know you worry about him, Duo-kun, but we shouldn't start worrying just yet." Duo nodded, even though he felt like smacking some sense into the gentle blonde. Wufei was not the kind of guy who lost track of the time easily; hell, if it weren't for him, Duo would never be on time for anything! And the fact that the Chinese pilot was never any later than 8:30 getting back, coupled with the clock currently striking 10, was enough to worry the normally happy-go-lucky Deathscythe pilot. He sighed to himself and leaned back against the wall, crossing his arms over his chest and frowning. Although he was hoping against hope that the tall European pilot had seen his boyfriend, Duo knew the odds of that were very, very not good. The front door opened, causing the braided pilot to jerk his head up expectantly. His shoulders slumped slightly when he realized it wasn't Wufei returning. "Where you been all night, Heero?" he asked, not really expecting an answer; the pilot of Wing 0 had been extremely moody since Wufei had told him their affair was over. "Out." Duo thought grudgingly, then asked aloud, "By the way, man, have you seen Fei? He's over an hour late now." The cobalt-eyed teen froze and shot a glance at Duo before heading past him into the living room. "No," he said as he walked past. Duo frowned; the look in his eye just then, when he'd asked about Wu-- He narrowed his eyes and followed the stoic pilot into the living room. By this time, Quatre and Trowa had also returned to the room, and Quatre looked like he was about to have a panic attack. "Duo, Trowa hasn't seen Wufei since he left the house at quarter after seven," the blonde said in a rush. "Do you think we should call the police?" Violet eyes, slowly hardening into a frigid glare, turned towards the Japanese teen. "I don't think that'll be necessary," he said, ice dripping from every word. "That is, if *Hee-chan* decides to tell me the damned truth." Trowa's eyes widened slightly; Heero had seen Wufei? But he was sure he'd heard-- "What are you getting at, Maxwell?" came the cool response, but his eyes were frightened. "You've seen him," Duo accused, staring Heero directly in the eyes. He paused, searching cobalt eyes for something--and didn't like what he was seeing. Without any forewarning, he pulled back his fist and decked the Japanese teen, knocking him to the floor. Then he whirled around and stormed out the front door. Quatre looked from the door Duo had just left through to Heero and back again before dashing after his friend. "Duo! Why did you--" "Call your sister, or Sally, or both!" Duo shot back over his shoulder as he darted for the woods. Wufei loved walking there, and he had seen his beloved heading this way earlier in the evening. As he ran, he sent up a silent prayer: ~~^~~OWARI PART TWO~^~ ~~^~~^^~~^~~^^~~^~~^^~~^~~^^~~^~~^^~~^~~^^~~^~~^^~~^~~ (1) I *think* that's how the bridge goes.
