-----The group, led by a soldier (that was part of a team that had been sent to the area to bring the residents to a secure base), came across a motionless body in the park. The body was void of sexual characteristics and appeared to be a malformed child, albeit tall and lanky for a child. Only two among the group recognized the identity of the body, but they might not have known if they had not recognized the clothing that the body wore. -----One of the two explained to the others how the deceased person before them had been a friend of hers, and had been a hermaphrodite (which the other of the two hadn't known, and was surprised to learn; she had always thought that she had been a woman, but now she realized why "she" may have never married despite reaching middleage). The soldier made a supposition about the gender-reversing energy wave (that had hit the area) removing all sexual characteristics from the hermaphrodite since that would be the opposite of having all of the sexes, seeing as humans couldn't be asexual. And, without the proper chemical support that came with having a sex, the soldier assumed that there must have been organ failure. -----Either way, it was a reminder about how the abnormal in all things are often left out of consideration, or simply descriminated against. Seeing things in black and white often has its consequences, even if unseen or unintended. If only everything were that simple. |
