Arnold waited patiently while the government-secret technology did its work on his body. He didn't like the idea of being female, but he understood that someone had to make the sacrifice for his group's cause. His group had a stake in the government just like many other groups had, all of which vying for the power that would be used toward their self-interests, so they were able to get their hands on "special resources" from time to time.

Christianity and Conservatism was at an all-time low in the country, so his group, a small but old cult whose defining center was "Paganism", took the opportunity to take advantage of the ideas that had oppressed their own so long ago and, even today, continued to do so.

What they had planned would not have been possible if not for a recent archaeological find: the remains of another species in the homo genus that had been estimated to have lived during the time of the Neanderthals and had gone extinct ten-thousand years after their extinction. This find held promise because an advanced DNA analyzer had shown that the yet-to-be classified species had enough physical traits to pass as an elf.

As for their plan; it involved bringing the mythical elves into reality to draw in public interest while their elf carefully made connections to their political agenda. It was a cheap political tactic, but it certainly wasn't any worse than any other ploy that had been done in the past.

As far as Arnold was concerned, he was willing to take the risk even though he felt that no one would assassinate him, as an elf, if they cared about the sympathy factor that would come into play upon his death. His people could take advantage of that, the death of the only known elf in existence, and the public would rally behind his people anyway.

Still, he did wonder if they could have waited to find more specimens of this new race, in the hope that a male would have turned up. Their cult, of course, was patriarchal; a traditional aspect of most of the old cults that still existed. He only hoped that his adventure would be worth it.
