Chapter Three
When Vegeta found out about the woman, he was extremely upset,
to say the least. It was a wonder his incredible yelling at Bulma
didn’t wake the woman from her sleep. It took a very, very long
time for Bulma to get Vegeta off her case, since most of what he
was chewing her out about was the woman’s enormous power that even
he could feel miles away. But Bulma has been able to put up with
him long enough to get used to big arguments like this one. But
what was the most difficult thing for him to believe was the fact
that the power was emitting from a woman. She understood perfectly
well why anyone would have trouble understanding that. Women always
had the downside of physical strength compared to men. This was
quite unusual for a woman to have such power.
By now, it was certain: she’s a namek. It was hard to accept,
of course. But there was no other explanation. She looked exactly
like Piccolo as far as the general build of the body and arrangement
of the patches of pink skin. She had the pointed ears, the antennae,
the fangs, the lack of hair,… everything pointed to her being a
namek. Piccolo, no doubt, might object, considering she was also… well,… a SHE.
The woman was no doubt a very confusing matter to those aware of
her. But, of all of them, Bulma knew that Piccolo would be the most affected.
Vegeta had the worst time of any of them. Knowing what kind of
power this woman had, he knew he was the only one at the moment
who had to teach her to control it. This was extremely difficult
since she was only just beginning to learn to speak, thanks to Bulma…
but no thanks to their constant arguments out of frustration. Bulma
may have had to teach her proper language, including reading, writing,
and speaking appropriately and accurately, but she could do that
easily as an ingenious inventor of practically anything. Vegeta,
being the most impatient teacher ever seen, could barely keep himself
from either yelling his head off or going Super Saiyan in front
of the woman. The kids, Trunks and Bra, loved her. They, too,
were amazed that a female namek was staying with them. They also
knew that they had to keep quiet about her, but they couldn’t help
telling friends about an awesome woman living with them at Capsule
Corp. She enjoyed their company, too. In a way, she was almost
like a babysitter to them. She usually watched them whenever Bulma
and Vegeta were out, at first only examining their actions and watching
them as they did what they did. It was odd to her, but she loved them.
By the time she started learning to speak, she was given the name
Aya. It seemed pretty suitable to Bulma, and it was short and easy
enough so Vegeta could handle it incase he got so agitated he’d
need to yell it. The woman was at first a bit intimidated at the
sight and sound of Vegeta, but grew used to him as soon as she saw
that Bulma didn’t seem to mind him at all. She soon became numb
to his yells and curses during their “training” time periods. Vegeta
had managed to teach her to lower her power so it wouldn’t be so
noticeable, thankfully quick enough so no one else would sense her.
Vegeta silently hoped Yamcha would keep his mouth shut about Aya;
it was enough already that the Briefs knew about her, and spreading
the word couldn’t be seen as a good thing.
The kids, Trunks and Bra, loved her. They, too, were amazed that
a female namek was staying with them. They also knew that they
had to keep quiet about her, but they couldn’t help telling their
school friends about an awesome woman living with them at Capsule
Corp… they both knew that their friends wouldn’t say anything, and
they didn’t. She enjoyed their company, too. In a way, she was
almost like a babysitter to them. She usually watched them whenever
Bulma and Vegeta were out, at first only examining their actions
and watching them as they did what they did. It was odd to her, but she loved them.
Vegeta trained Aya fairly hard as soon as she got used to his regular
moves. He tried to train her as hard as he could in his regular
mode; he still wasn’t quite sure if she could handle him training
her in Super Saiyan form, yet. She seemed to be handling him pretty
well, not really fighting back, but not letting her guard down either.
She was just going with the flow of things, which caught Vegeta’s
nerve. If she could handle this neutrally, how well could she handle
a much stronger opponent…? Would she be able to stand up to him
as a Super Saiyan? Just how strong was she? He’d finally dismiss
the thought after deciding to stick to the easy stuff first before taking it to a higher level…
It was on one unfortunate day, however, that Vegeta overdid himself.
They had been sparring for a good long 4 hours in the back yard,
and both were pretty much drenched with sweat. She had been holding
up normally, and he was tiring of not getting anywhere, but still
not sure enough of her endurance… Up until that point, he didn’t
use any ki attacks very often on her, knowing that she needed to
learn to fight properly with her fists before concentrating her
own ki. He jabbed at her stomach, but she was quick to dart away
just in time to swat her leg into his side. He didn’t move. He
grabbed her leg quicker than she expected, and with one quick smooth
motion, through her over his head and into the air above him. She
soared through the sky, arms and legs flailing madly as she tried
to recover. When she did, she landed easily on the grassy lawn,
posed and ready for Vegeta’s next move. Without thinking, Vegeta
lifted his arm and pointed at her. She frowned slightly, wondering
what the heck he was doing. Vegeta just grinned his sly little
grin, knowing that if she could withstand his next move without
dodging, then she could definitely handle him in Super Saiyan mode.
A bright ball of energy appeared at the end of his finger, growing
bigger with his grin. He chuckled evilly as the ki blast grew to
the size of his head. He suddenly stopped.
Aya watched him cautiously, ready to dart out of the way if she
couldn’t take it. She bared her teeth and showed her fangs, glaring
at Vegeta out of sheer concentration. Her body tensed to its limits,
and she was set for the blow. But, she wasn’t.
Vegeta smiled before letting her have it. “Catch this.” With
that, he shot the ki right at her, aiming for her face. She had
to act quickly. It didn’t seem as much as a threat as she thought
it would. She’d be able to stand her ground and deflect if she
focused on it long enough and hit it at just the right angle. She
had the strength to do it, but with the way he threw it, she needed
to be precise so not fry herself in the process. She brought her
arm back, powered up, and was just about ready to swing her arm
at it when she hesitated. She gasped and suddenly realized that it was too late.
The blast hit with a huge force, sending her flying into a tree
and almost breaking it in half. Wind rushed all around Vegeta for
a good while, bringing with it enormous clouds of dust that tore
at the grass, drawing up loose-rooted weeds. After the light faded
and the dust settled, Vegeta saw Aya lying slumped against the tree,
her face burned very badly and purple blood running down her cheeks
from her closed eyes. She didn’t move. At first, Vegeta just waited
for her to come to. But it never happened. After taking a good
long second look at her condition, he began to think that maybe
he had overdid himself a bit.
He walked over to her and kneeled by her side. Gently taking her
chin in his hand, he tilted her head to the side to get a better
look at the wound. He winced slightly, hoping that she’ll still
be able to see. Bulma took that time to storm out of the house,
a look of agitation written all over her face. “What’s going on
out here!?!? Are you planning a war in the backyard or something!?!?”
She suddenly stopped after her eyes fell on Aya. Her expression
suddenly changed from anger to shock. “Oh Kami-sama!!” She ran
over and kneeled on the other side of Aya, frantically looking for
any signs of life. She then turned on Vegeta. “What did you do?!”
Vegeta glared back at her. “Nothing!! She saw it coming, it’s
not my fault she didn’t move!”
“Training!? What, were you trying to kill her!? What’s wrong with you!?”
“She saw it coming! She should’ve acted while she had the chance!
She’s probably just faking it, anyway.”
Bulma just glowered even more at the saiyan. She turned and examined
Aya’s burned face, realizing that this definitely wasn’t something
to take lightly. She sighed.
“All right. Bring her to the basement. We can’t use the rejuvenation tank, but I’ll see what I can do…”
Aya moaned unconsciously as Vegeta lifted her into his arms. “Why not the rejuvenation tank?”
Bulma led him through the back door. “The rejuvenation tank heals
with synthetic saiyan DNA. We can’t use that on a namek, so the
best thing to do is treat it manually. I should be able to heal
most of it, but if you happened to have damaged her hard enough,
there could be some serious problems with her sight.”
Elsewhere, a storm swirled in the late afternoon sky. Lightening crashed all around the barren land, licking the sky with its brilliant flash. The wind ripped at the trees, tearing their roots from the loose earth. A great quake shook the land, and the earth parted, revealing a deep abyss where evil lurks. The crevice glowed a fiery red, emitting a infernal tone to the ground around it. It suddenly erupted with hot molten lava, spilling out on the dusty earth, bringing with it terror from an unknown hell. The storm suddenly stilled, the winds slowed and the lightening ceased as the lava gradually cooled. The lava crested the earth and covered the abyss, leaving it looking like a long thin mound of rock that seemed to come out of nowhere. On one of this mound, a man stood alone with a scythe in gloved hand, cape whipping behind him in the dying wind. His long silver hair flowed in the breeze, and his pale skin stood out on the desolate plane like a star in deep space. He stood tall, searching the plane with pallid yellow eyes. Searching the land. Searching for the enemy… the angel
