This website have went through a lot these past couple of years. I'm surprised myself I'm still running it (with as much energy and joy as ever). But I'm very very sure that there is basically almost no one here that was from before the time of version four... heck... ever wanted to know how my site first started? Want to know what helped influenced me? And what the heck is Carbuncle Week? Questions will be answered in this tedious, boring, reasonless, long text essay type thing. And people actually read this!? >=O

And yes... I am one of those people who read these things...

Version 0 = Before the shrine
It was the year 1999... I have successfully worked on my mailing list for about a year called TriAnime. I had about 50-60 members at the time and it was somewhat popular. At the time I started, I think I was 12 years old or something... not too bad... It was dedicated to basically the only animes I've seen and watched: Dragonball, Pokémon, and Sailor Moon. Even if I never knew those series *that* much, but I did learn a lot! I decided to run a webpage advertising the mailing list and realized it was a lot of work. I tinkered with things here and there. But it was basically crap... a big piece of crap (excuse my crappy language ^_^;;). I was a semi Goten fan back then, I liked him but knew nothing of him. I wanted to make a site since I've never seen one ever (Goten's Archives existed at this time... I just never found it until much later). I finally made a Goten shrine, but I had so few images and info (Goten was especially rare).

Version 1 = August 27, 1999
My site was finally started, and it was named "The Shrine to Son Goten"! The site was a big page with a pic, intro, and a link to a biography of Goten. It was terribly made but not as much as my first site. One of the members of my mailing list was named SSJGogeta (who had SSJGogeta's Site, which I lost the link to) helped me out since he was starting a site at the same time. We helped each other and gave each other pointers. It was now that I learned very basic HTML... The site had a black bg and bluish-green font. Several sections were made but not too much. My hit counter didn't go up so high ^_^ He helped me a lot but his site died soon, because for some odd reason he disappeared. Thats what sucks about the 'net... you never know when a good friend of your disappear... I lost many that way ;_;

Version 2 = Winter '99 - Winter '00
The site finally changed to frames because it was a pretty bad layout (I still haven't learned how to use tables yet). Same colors, but more writing and there was Goten in the background in a darkish black and blue color. While I talked to one of my friends, she mentioned how kawaii the site was. That gave me an idea. I named the site Kawaii Factor a week after, and I actually got e-mail saying its a much better name. Yeah, back then people actually send e-mails for suggestions and how much they like your site.... not that I'm hinting anything ^_~ There were actually some sections which was cool. I was lazy once in a while and updates came in once every two or three weeks. But no one really cared. Soon I found the Goten Archives and was inspired. I knew some new information and it was a cool site (which I'm not sure others agree). The inspiration allowed me to work harder. Then I lost connection to the net.

Version 3 = Spring '00
We didn't have internet for three months I think. I forgot why though... My parents thought the so called popular internet wasn't needed and pulled the plug. I was back up later though, in a way wondered how my friends were and quite determined to get my site back. My TriAnime mailing list died already... lots of people died off too (I think it was around this time AOL allowed you to have 16 characters in your name except of 9, which is why many changed). I held off working on my site for awhile. As I went websurfing one day I found a site which offers an easier name to remember (which is still used today). goten.8k.com! Yeah.. did I regret working on freeservers... The new layout was also in frames but much much more colorful. Contents weren't really up yet though, only few information was up, basically nothing was up actually x_x It was at this time I met LTAG and she also started on her Dragonball Angels site. She wasmya penpal and I didn't know all of those things in Australia. I'm rambling on again ain't I? Well... freeservers was hard to use and everytime you update a site... well... it doesn't always update. Uploading is a pain too... it takes to long and often says "sorry, but the file can't be uploaded". Agh... time to go back to angelfire (which I've used all my life when making this site). This is when the first famous Goten shrine basically, died out, The Goten Archives...

Version 4 = Spring - Fall '00
It was at this time I finally got rid of frames... I hated it! Frames were annoying and took away the layout, it just didn't look as "spiffy" as my site should be. In other words... I had to learn more HTML by myself which I haven't done since I started to site. The site went back to its original black bg with bluish green font. The most I have done with this section was getting 5 sections done though, I never worked on it that much. The layout had the little menu thingy tables up in the upper left corner. During about May (at least I'm pretty sure it was), for some odd reason there was a... Carbuncle Week... One of the first signs my site was heading towards more strangeness. This whole thing started while I was writing to my penpal, LTAG, and we were talking about each other. She talked about her love of Carbuncle and how cool it was (even though I wasn't much of a fan of it back then). So, in a really odd way to tease her and create "Carbuncle Week" ^_^ Odd how I started to like Carbuncle a lot afterwards. For those who don't know, Carbuncle is that bluish green creature on top of my updates section. Afterwards, I decided that Carbuncle Week is the last week of March (since I forgot when I started it exactly till now x_x) I started the quote of the week and picture of the week at this version as well. By the time it was Fall... it seems that my laptop went kaput... and that was my updating computer... seems like the sites going to die again... The alternative was a very very slow computer and since it was about time school was about to start again, I decided to hang up my job as a webmaster, temporary I hoped. The Goten Gallary also died out here, ending the reign of the first generation of Goten shrines.

Version 4.5 = Spring '01
You might find it odd since I named this version 4.5 (though originally it was part of version 4). New computer, hopes, determination sprung to life as I restarted on the site. This isn't version 5 just because of this simple reason, its the same as version 4, just revived, nothing different. I didn't work on it horribly too much at first though. Also, Carbuncle Week makes another appearance here as well on the last week of March. This only lasted for a month or two.

Version 5 = Spring '01 - Winter '02
I sighed at the fact my site was so far behind the rest (due to procrastination and technical problems of late). I looked around my page and it seems to be very dedicated to chibi Goten and only a bit to teen and GT. Then it struck me, I don't even like teen or GT Goten, why not just make a shrine just to *chibi* Goten!! During this time I changed the layout once again and it had Goten colors ^_^ I also had the name changed from Kawaii Factor to Chibi N' Kawaii. By the time it was summer, I would update once every one/two week. I wasn't that good at updating frequently yet... I've had much to do (so do I these days but I still updated much more). It had a huge Goten biography and tons of Goten images! Some I luckily recovered from my old site before the laptop went Kaput! School started... I almost haven't touched the site at all. Updates were once every month, eveery two months... then stopped all together. I closed down the site on February 22nd of 2002 because I lost hope for it. It was too small, too far behind, and I had no time at all. School ate me up way too much (which it'll probably do next year but I'm ready for it this time!) and whenever I had free time I would sneak in the much needed extra sleep. Tennis started as well, competitions for my other clubs were near, I lost completely to the site. I did not want to... but I had to kill it. For the first time I put up a goodbye message talking of how someday I'll come back. But the truth that no one knew was I wasn't thinking of comming back. I never did... but then look at me. I missed working on sites, I had some free time... I realized that this site was part of me and I couldn't get rid of it. With renewed determination (and much faster typing speed ^_^) I got back on working in early May. I changed the layout enough and made sure that I liked it myself.

Version 6 = Summer '02 and beyond
Maybe what I wanted my site become came true... though the design isn't *that* good... I could actually smile and say "You know what, I like this site". It was late May and I decided to let a week's notice my shrine was comming back (due to some investigating, it seems people still come back). I opened it on May 27th... even though there were no pages (I intended that there would be some... but the last couple weeks of school had killer essays due x_x) Then... this odd extremely blue shrine reopened, and you're reading it right now... =)

Final Thoughts...
Website making is a strange adventure... if you plan on having at least a semi good shrine, it eats on your life, like a blood sucking alien from the bowels of darkness... or something like that... I spent way too long writing this, I hope you're happy ^.^;; What I thought of Goten changed over the years and also an overlook on sites. Goten shrines are actually created these days in a surprising third generation. I never actually thought a good site of Goten would pop up, I was proven wrong... again =) Yeah... I've been there since the beginning, though I still think of myself as a 2nd generation site. I thought this was pretty cool and I hope I can always work on this site forever... until I go to college ^_^ I hope from now to whatever version there will be peace, justice, and cupcakes!!!! Goten and the Goten web community forever ^___^
