Final Fantasy VI

ho could forget the classic game called Final Fantasy VI? Nearly every Final Fantasy fan will say this is one of the best, if not the best in the series. Not only does Final Fantasy VI have a beautiful soundtrack, it also has one of the best stories in any game or movie you'll play or see (depending on the the person, it's only equal to other Final Fantasy's, Chrono Trigger/Cross, and Vagrant Story). While taking place in a medevil setting, it still has alot of futuristic influence (much like Final Fantasy IX).

he music in Final Fantasy VI can be described in one word: beautiful. Many beleive it to have the best music in the series, or even in any game to date. Some of the most famous themes include the Snowfield theme, a sweet relaxing theme that adds more drama to the game (especially the orchestrated version), and the Opera theme which is around 23 minutes long (again, you should hear the orchestrated version). If you were ever to purchase a Final Fantasy soundtrack, this, in my opinion, would be the one to get first. Overall, the sound and music is perfect, showing that you don't need a nex-generation system to provide you with beautiful music.

nd then there is the plot. To be honest, the very first few seconds of the game made it look like it was going to be a slow moving game. It turns out that it moves at a pace that isn't too fast, or too slow. Like Final Fantasy VII, and IX, VI has a unforgetable villan. Even though you are supposed to hate villans, I find that I like Sephiroth, Kuja, and Kefka more than even the main characters. Is this a bad thing? No, it's a good thing. It means that squaresoft has put alot of time and thought into the villans instead of just throwing something together. The only difference between Kefka and the others is Kefka was pure evil. Sephiroth had a rough life, and kind of went insane making you feel bad for him. Kuja was just trying to defy his fate, and show that he wasn't created to be like a computer. But Kefka just wanted to kill. And how could anyone forget the popular Kefka laugh? Anyway, I won't spoil any of the plot, but I will say the game is worth playing to see the plot alone.

inally there are the graphics. It's hard to say whether they're good or bad. If you look at them when Final Fantasy VI came out, they were good. Looking at them now, they are not so good. But lets not look at them now since it would be unfare to compare them to games on newer, more powerful machines. Final Fantasy VI looks quite good compared to most Super Nintendo games (except maybe Chrono Trigger). Using traditional sprites, the graphics work out perfectly. Like Final Fantasy V, VI uses the "super deformed" look (except on the menu in which the characters look quite nice). The world map on Final Fantasy VI is improved over V by taking a more 3D approach much like Final Fantasy VII-IX. The world actually works and looks good considering it's only a 16 bit game. If you have the Playstation version of the game, then you have seen the FMV's at the starting and ending of the game. The FMV's really help you see what the characters actually look like. Which is good since the character design is so good. I mean, who can honestly say that Kefka dosn't look cool? He's a freaky clown, he must be cool.

verall, this is a game no RPG fan should pass up, or even just a regular game player. If you havn't played this game, play it right now.
