Tuesday - 05/02/2000 Mr.E @ 17:42 pst - May Newsletter... Yes, it's that merry time again where FUNimation unleashes their newsletter on the unsuspecting public. Alright, maybe that's overexagerating, but here's the May e-mail of joy: It's that time again and we have information for you... This year has started off with a BANG!!! The American International Toy Fair Convention in New York was in February, ( that's where toy companies come together to show off their different toy lines) and Dragon Ball Z was the Star of the Convention. That means lots and lots of new products will hit the shelves this year, like new characters in 5" action figures such as Bulma, Raditz, Nappa, Master Roshi with Turtle, Garlic Jr., Frieza (second form), Chiaotzu, Chi-Chi, Dende, Super Saiyan Teenage Trunks, King Kai, Yajirobe, Burter, Jeice and Krillin. The wait is almost over! The Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game will be hitting hobby stores around the beginning of June. "Our play-testing indicates we indeed are delivering a game that measures up to the huge popularity and success of Dragon ball Z," says Larry Blackwell of Score. TV Guide (March 4th issue) had great things to say about Dragon Ball Z. Thanks TV Guide! Garlic Jr. Black Water Mist and Garlic Jr. Sacred Water are now on the shelves. Also just out for pre-order in our online store (http://www.dbzstore.com) is Trunks: Mysterious Youth and Trunks: Prelude to Terror. Hungry for a Burger King Whopper? Burger King Corporation is teaming up with FUNimation Productions, Inc. to offer a Burger King Big Kid's Meal (tm) and Kid's Meal program featuring Dragon Ball Z premium items. The promotion begins May 29, 2000 and features seven of the most popular Dragon Ball Z characters as well as exclusive trading cards from the official trading card game. Also available through a special promotion with Burger King will be one, 60 minute video with 2 never before seen episodes, an overview of DBZ, and a sneak-peak at the upcoming Android Saga. Look for your Official New http://www.dragonballz.com website June 1st. Club Z members will receive: Flash Cards Desktop Images Chat room Games and Contest E - Cards Earn money and discounts through the New http://www.dbzstore.com affiliate program coming soon to the Official Dragon Ball Z Web Store. Have a link from your web page to the Official Dragon Ball Z store. Check http://www.dragonballz.com soon for more information. Once again, stuff we already know, but some people just want it directly from the horse's mouth. Top news has been updated to reflect some of the dates in the newsletter.

wednesday -04/26/2000 Mr.E @ 20:06 pst - Toonami.com Launced... Although the information is a bit lacking (as I expected), the new toonami.com site is designed very well, and will keep newcomers entertained for quite some time. I didn't expect much out of this, but CN has put quite a bit of effort into this venture. If it is continually updated, it could be one of the better official sites out there... Update: There is apparently one glaring error in the description for DBZ: They describe Vegeta as Goku's cousin, which is incorrect. Since they are probably flooded with e-mails about it already, do NOT message them about the mistake anymore. It's quite disconcerting to receive that much spam for one petty mistake... @ 16:53 pst - Cast Your Vote... Even if you don't live in Canada, I want you to go to YTV's site and vote for Gundam W. Our friends in the north need more great anime programs, and we have to help out all we can...if enough people support the series, it will begin to air regularily on the station... ^_^

Thursday - 04/20/2000 @ 22:17 pst - Japanese Vs "Uncut" English Gundam W: Is there a difference? In reference to MrE's Gundam Wing post below, I do have a stack of fansubs (the first 24 epps) which I can compare the "Uncut" English Gundam Wing too. After going back over the subs, I can confidently say that any edits made from the Japanese version to the "Uncut" English version were most likely due to time constraints and/or cultural gaps. I also noticed what appears to be a slight (and I may be wrong on this one, as my fansubs aren't of the best quality) cleanup in the amount of blood from the Japanese to the "Uncut" English versions. Besides these changes, I haven't really noticed any major difference between the Japanese and "Uncut" English versions of Gundam W. If only I could say the same about "Uncut" Dragonball Z...

@ 20:24 pst - Uncut Gundam...or is it? I found this somewhat intriguing (this is a response to an e-mail from CN)... << Why Does Cartoon Network Air GundamWing UNCUT Yet They Don't Show DBZ Uncut? This Has Baffled Me For Quite Sometime That You Would Show UNCUT "GUNDAM" Yet Not One UNCUT "Dragonballz" Episode. >> Well...even though they are considered "uncut", technically Gundam is a bit edited....but we'll let the producers know you would like to see uncut DBZ. So, Cartoon Network is open to the idea, which is good. However, we now know that Gundam W is not completely "uncut" as it has been so advertised. I wish I had a stack of fansubs sitting next to me to see the changes, but hey, the effort is well beyond the worth... ^_^ Thanks to Wing Zero for forwarding this to us...

@ 23:36 pst - DBGT on the Air... If you live in South California and get XEWT, you'll be one of the few lucky (or unluckly) individuals to get DBGT dubbed in Spanish at 8:30 AM Saturday mornings. Apparently episodes have been airing for the past week or two, and more are expected. GT is rather dull and tired compared to DB or Z, and most fans aren't very fond of it. Nevertheless, it is anime, and any support is good.

@ 23:14 pst - Toonami.com It appears as though toonami.com finally has an opening date: April 24th. The Revolution has a new home. The wait is over, Toonami fans. The new TOONAMI.COM hits your desktop hard on April 24, featuring all the latest data on your favorite Toonami shows, characters and more. Plus check out the cool new TOONAMI COMIC, a unique interactive adventure starring Blue Falcon, along with your favorite action-packed TOONAMI GAMES. Enter for your chance to blast off for a grand-prize trip to Space Camp, or you could be one of 200 FIRST PRIZE WINNERS to receive "Galaxy Quest" on home video from Dreamworks Home Entertainment. Don't be the last to know. Be there April 24 to check out the new TOONAMI.COM! Expect multimedia bits from each series, plus some basic info (Maybe a few other surprises...who knows). Thanks to Scopa for the heads up...
