History ::
It all started in
1999 when Skygge,
Abarath, Abaddon
and his brother Gian formed a band called ‘Spinal Chill’. With Skygge on
guitar, Abaddon on bass, Abarath on drum and Gian handling the mic, they played
a kind of primitive death metal (which is obviously not what Lemuria produces
today). They managed to record a demo called ‘Demonic’,
but luckily for the public, it’s no longer available!
Just after the launch of the new millennium, guitarist Typhon joined the band
and Gian, the vocalist wasn’t working out professionally (and personally). He
was replaced by Sancti
and soon after this changeover the group decided to change its name to Lemuria.
With the combined song writing talents of Skygge and Abarath, the band’s sound
evolved into a kind of black heavy metal with folky riffs and that is still what
it sounds like today. After a year of officially playing under the alias of
Lemuria, the band recorded their first serious demo in the Cavern Studios in
Antwerp in April 2002.
The CD was called ‘The
Vault of the Witness’ and got some good reactions from metalheads and
non-metalheads alike. A year’s worth of intense rehearsing and some live
performances resulted in a higher level in execution.
Unfortunately, Lemuria was forced to replace Typhon with Morholt,
a previously unknown and inexperienced guitarist to complete the line-up. Nemesis,
also the band’s webmaster, was made the 6th member on keyboards after playing
in the band for 6 months as a session musician.
And so the story continues…..
