THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF FISH

This page is here to give the rookie fish handler a set of easy yet IMPORTANT guidlines in the world of fish. This page will go into depth and detail on how to set up, raise, breed, and develop your fish the right way. This page right now is dedicated to FRESHWATER fish.
Starting Up
It is important that you have your aquarium fully assembled before adding your fish. It will go a long way in the future.
STEPS IN STARTING UP
*Clean out aqaurium with cold/warm water(NO SOAP/BLEACH!!) Take a clean sponge or cloth and wipe the inside of your aquarium clean.
**Put aquarium on stand or on sturdy counter. (Average 2 pounds per gallon. Ex. 20 gallon will need stand to support 40 lbs.
***Wash the stones in cold/warm water.(Note: when the stones are in the bags, they collect dust whish is not welcome in the aquarium.) Then take the clean gravel and gently place it in the aquarium laying it evenly first.
****Fill the aquarium half way with water. Make sure not to disturb the gravel.
*****Place the plants and ornaments in the aquarium. The ornaments should be approved for aquarium usage. Plants, for viewing pleasure should be ordered from tallest in the back to smallest/shortest in the front. Also put the filter, thermometer, and water heated into the aquarium. Make sure the plants are not to close to the filter or they may get sucked in.
******Fill the remainder of the aquarium with water. Then place the hood and light on. Plug the filter in but do not plug the heater in. Let it sit in the water for a 1/2 hour before plugging in.
*******Let the aquarium run(EVERYTHING ON) for at least 24 hours before adding fish. Also if using tap water/chlorinated water, add water conditioner to remove chemicals.
ADDING YOUR FISH
It is important that you do NOT start off the aquarium with expensive fish. If freshwater, the best fish to use and still have a beautifull aquarium are varius types of TETRA's. They are hardy, and colorfull at the same time. They should be kept for about 60 days(This is when aquariums' cycle becomes stable) before removing them and putting more expensive fish, keeping them and adding new fish, or just keeping them all together. Also remember not to overcroud your aquarium. The average 1 inch fish needs 1 gallon of water. So twenty 1 inch fish could live in a 20 gallon. It isn't recommended though because stones take up space as well as ornaments. Be safe and do NOT overcroud.
