The Spanish Club was started years
ago in Castle Park High School but it wasn't until two years ago
in the class of 2002 that Mr. Vega start being in charge of the
club.
The Club does field trips that help the students understand
better the Spanish language.
The Spanish Club also helps the students
gain community service in different ways.
Since the school doesn’t provide tutoring
for Spanish the Spanish Club decided to start after school tutoring.
The Spanish
Club provides
the members of the Club the opportunity to teach what they
know of Spanish to other students in Castle Park High School. Students
teach
students and it helps both of the students by letting the tutor
gain community service and practice his/her Spanish and by giving
the
students that are getting the tutoring the opportunity to learn
more Spanish and to help them with their classes.
Another way
the
Spanish
club helps the students gain community service is by doing
clean up days after school.
The Spanish Club also does some events
that
promote the Spanish language. One of the biggest events
that the Spanish Club does is the Mothers Day Festival. The Spanish
Club organize
a day dedicated towards the mothers of the students where.
In the festival there is food, drinks, flowers and many other
things for
the mothers. The Mothers Day Festival also haves a poetry
contest in Spanish. The poems are dedicated to the mothers and
the
students
have the opportunity to read it to their mother and at
the
same time participate to win something.
The members of the Spanish club also sell candy and grams on
certain holydays to gain money to be able to go on field
trips and to give
small scholarships at the end of the school year.
