OWL NEWSLETTER Emerald Links : Summer of 2003 Hi ladies: Thanks to Susan and Sharon for finding spares to fill in this week. It was nice see Lianna (and her Big Bertha) and Nicole. Mary Fereday was also spotted on the links and she joined us in the club house while cheering for the Sens - I was the lone dissenter cheering for the Devils!! I think we'll see Nicole again as she was thrilled with her first outing as she managed to match Paulette's score – just don't ask what the score was!! We have our first fine this season - Elizabeth Millar gets dinged $20 for committing for golf and then being a no-show and not finding a spare. All fines (unless E.L. insists) go into the year-end dinner. Guess it was a small price for her to pay as she golfed and played tennis at Tremblant! A few of us closed down the club house with Gib Patterson, the owner of E.L. while watching the hockey game. They are opening a new course in Shawville, complete with a hotel with 60 rooms. We schmoozed with the owner in hopes of getting future concessions including a discounted green fee. Gib said that he has 3 ladies leagues now and no men which he figures is a sign of the times. Plus he says guys always find time to play during the day whereas the women are more responsible and come after work! My group discovered this week that playing the south course after 9 is a better alternative than the east course. We had the south course to ourselves until we ran into 5 duffers who had hopped the fence and unwittingly snuck in front of us. For a beer, Paulette chased them off the hole with a drive up the back side -- much closer and accurate than what she did to Mare's group on the 7th hole. Paulette was extremely thirsty since the refreshment cart was no where to be found!! Hope your wrist is better Mare. We've been invited to Larrimac for their nine and dine great evening hosted by Roxanne Gagne. We pair off with golfers from their group and play on Tuesdays in their league night. Green fee is $15.Tentative dates are Tues. June 10 and Aug. 12. so we will not play at E.L. during those 2 weeks. We reciprocate and host them on Wed. July 9th if Lianna, our coordinator is available. If you don't make it into the club house and want your scores used to figure out handicaps, please send me your score.
