For generations the United States and other nations in the “west” sent missionaries, armed with the Gospel of Jesus the Christ, to the far reaches of the globe while the Anglican Mission in America is an outreach of the Anglican Church in Rawanda and Southeast Asia and is considered a mission church in America. As Newsweek Magazine proclaimed in a major article in 2001, “Countries that were once considered Christian Homelands have become the mission territories of the new millennium.” America is becoming the mission field. Anglican Mission in America is a missionary outreach to the United States sanctioned jointly by the Anglican Archbishops of South East Asia and Rwanda. A local church, Holy Spirit Anglican Church, located off of College Dr. in Lafayette is the only Anglican Mission in America church located in Louisiana. Reverend David Stitt is the pastor. A significant shift in the Anglican church was signaled at the Lamberth Conference in 1998 that gathered together all the bishops of the Anglican Communion. A clear call was issued for biblical authority and fidelity—a hallmark of historic Anglicanism. Anglicans stand on the two great creeds, the Apostles and Nicene, as the fundamental statements of Christian belief. Groups such as the Anglican Mission in America are an outreach of the African and South East Asia churches and are considered mission churches in America. As a re-alignment unfolds, there is much church planting and exploration of different forms of church, such as café churches, Alpha courses developing into churches, youth churches, etc. Anglicans are part of the global relationship of churches established over the centuries by the Church of England. The Episcopal Church of America is a part of the Anglican Communion. Anglicans celebrate the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper and uphold the historic order of Bishops in the administration of church life. Holy Spirit Anglican Church offers a traditional Mass on Sunday morning from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. They are located at 108 Acadian Dr. (off South College St. in Lafayette) All are welcome to attend.
