Leaving my very abusive husband was probably the best choice that I have ever made. For years he controlled and demeaned me. I never got to fullfill my dream of going to nursing school because I was at home taking care of my two beautiful daughters and tending to my husband's needs. Finally I found the strength to leave him. I was tired of the physical/mental/verbal abuse. So I moved with my daughters to Kansas. I moved there in hopes of finding a place that was smaller, quiet, and peaceful. Well that's about all there is here. The town I ended up in is tiny and there are No jobs whatsoever. I mean none, zip, zilch, not squat! I was not to worried. Years ago I ran my own very successful daycare service so I figured I could offer my services here. That didn't work. There just aren't enough people here who need that kind of service. So finding employment has been impossible.
Then in 2003 I was diagnosed with a thryiod disfunction. It made been so ill at one point I ended up in the ICU. Now I am finally feeling better and inrecovery mode, thank God. I am now in serious debt though. I baerly have groceries in the house and don't get any type of government asstistance. My rent is passed due as well as my other utilities. I have sold every valuable that we had, including the car but am still in desperate need.
Finally we got some good news. I and my daughter have the opprutunity to go to nursing school in New York. The program starts in January. The city also has great schools, churches (Kansas loacks churches that we can attend) and jobs galore! Also I can startup my business again while in school! This is an opportunity that cannot be missed.
I will tell you this much; I have grown exhuasted of fighting to not become another static. I am a strong willed woman. Yes, I made a mistake by moving to a town that had no employment but I am ready to move forward. I want to finish college and give my skills as a nurse where ever most needed. My daughter's have a right to see their mom accomplish a longtime goal. My daughetr's have the right to live in a place wher they can flourish and live freely. We have been held captive for far toolong by the circumstances around us. It is time for a change!
