Alpha Gamma Epsilon began as the Little Sisters of Alpha Tau Omega. When the membership of the Little Sisters grew to over thirty members, they decided they were strong enough to form their own sorority on campus, something Hamline had been missing since 1976. On May 3, 1981, the members of the Little Sisters of ATW formed their own sorority, Alpha Gamma Epsilon. When they started, the sisters of AGE did not have a house to hold meetings in. Instead, all events were held in Manor Main lounge. AGE acquired a house in 1983 on Hewitt Aveneue and lived there until 1986. 1488 Englewood Avenue was the sorority's residence until Hamline tore the house down to build the campus apartment building in 1998. In 1999 the sorority moved into a house that had once belonged to the sorority's big brothers at 1500 Englewood Avenue. In 2003 a space shortage on campus resulted in Hamline administration deciding to convert the house into office space. The sisters of AGE plan to eventually have another house to call their home either on or near campus. A strong presence for over 20 years, AGE is here to stay!
