Artistic Statement

-------I was born in the Middle of the Twentieth century in Russia, Where social idea and illusions which occupied the European mind of almost a century, resulted in one of the most terrible catastrophes in history. When I was a student , the Soviet Union was searching its way back to the idea of liberty and democracy. Russian avant-guard , banned in Russia for 40 years, became available to the artistic community again and spirit of freedom and expression exited me.
-------After the collapse of the Soviet Union I worked for three years in the International Art Center in Senezh., located near Moscow. During hat time a aesthetic and mystical ideas of the great philosophers and theologian Martin Buber fascinated me. These ideas helped me to solidify my artistic position and gave me a philosophical foundation of my art. His philosophically and exposure to the highest achievements of Western Modern art forced me to understand international significance of Russian artistic tradition and culture and enabled me to purify and define my style.
-------I belonged to the new generation of artists that is still unknown to the Western World. I Belived that the spirit of openness and liberty, characteristic of to the generation of artist wasn’t based on tradition of Soviet art and atheism but rather on tradition of cultural synthesis and spirituality. The tradition , represented by Malevich, Kandinsky, Soutine and Chagall, made Russian art the leader beginning of the century. Unfortunately the artist of previous generation, the so called “shestidesiantnic” were unable to overcome disastrous results of Soviet Mentality, and after the collapse of the Soviet Union they established their authority in art using totalitarian methods. That misrepresented the image of Russian art. That stagnation as well as social instability in Russia forced me to immigrate to the United States of America.
-------After I came to the United States I found out that my Artistic goal to be logical continuation of modern development in conceptual American art.. Ion creative work I followed traditions and great artists Felenov and Falk. Who managed to synthesis symbolism of Icon painting and mysticism of Bruegel and Rembarnt. I believed that collateral acceptance of modern Russian especially the art of Russian immigration, my facilitate and enrich of the United States of America
