Spider Treats

Chocolate Cobweb Spiders:

Servings:
Two people

Needed:
4 cups semisweet chocolate chips 
Spider web pattern
12x15 inch baking sheet
Pastry bag 
Double boiler
Wax paper

1. Find a drawing of a spider and photocopy it, fitting in as many as you can on a legal-size piece of paper.
2. In the top of a double boiler, over barely simmering water, stir the chocolate until melted. Remove from heat and let stand over water until cool, but still fluid. Put chocolate into a pastry bag fitted with 1/4-inch diameter tip.
3. Place paper with photocopied spiders on a cookie sheet and cover with waxed paper. Squeeze chocolate out of pastry bag and trace spiders. Chill the spiders for about 10 minutes.
4. Draw/acquire a spider web pattern. Lay spider web pattern on a 12x15 inch baking sheet and cover with wax paper. Squeeze chocolate out of pastry bag onto waxed paper, tracing spider web design. Chill web for 10 minutes. Peel off wax paper and place the chocolate spiders all over the web.


Cocoa Spider Treat:


Servings:
Three/four people

Needed:
12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
5-1/4 oz. mini marshmallows (half a bag)
Waxed paper
Thin licorice whips ( black, brown or purple)


1. Melt chocolate in either microwave or double boiler until just melted. Stir until smooth. Add marshmallows. Place by spoonfuls on waxed paper. Decorate with licorice "legs". Let dry.
2. Try variety. Add raisins or nuts or both, even m&m's work well. Try different kinds of spider legs too. Potato Sticks or pretzel sticks. Think of even more. Be creative and have fun. Also spiders set much faster if put in the freezer for just a few minutes.


Spider Snack:

Servings:
One person

Needed:

2 tablespoons Peanut butter
2 tablespoons Powdered sugar
2 tablespoons Graham cracker crumbs
2 tablespoons Coconut
Licorice
Raisins

1. Mix peanut butter, sugar and crumbs together and form a ball.
2. Divide the ball into 2 parts to form 2 balls, 1 slightly smaller than the other. Roll balls in coconut and place smaller ball on top of larger one. The smaller ball with be the head and the larger 1, the abdomen.
3. Add 8 licorice legs and 8 raisin eyes.


Spider Cake:

Servings:
Four/five people

Needed:
18 1/4 oz box white cake mix
4-serving package green gelatin
Blue food coloring
Chocolate frosting
4 black licorice whips
2 big green gumballs
6 little gumballs

1. Prepare cake using two 9-inch round cake pans. Cool.
2. Prepare the gelatin according to package directions.  It works best if it is just a little on the soft side.
3. On a foil-covered cookie-sheet, place one cake layer for the body. Cut a smaller circle out of the center of the layer. Place this smaller round of cake as the spider's head. Fill the hole left in the body layer with gelatin. Place the other cake layer on top of the body and trim cake slightly to shape , if desired.
4. To prepare frosting, in a mixing bowl, add blue food coloring to the chocolate frosting until black in color. Frost the entire cake black. Cut the black licorice whips in half and insert for the eight legs. Position the gumballs as eyes.
5. When sliced for serving, it will spurt green goop.


Black Widow Cup Cakes:

Servings:
Four/five people

Needed:
1 package Devil's food cake mix
Vegetable cooking spray
Glaze
5 cups Powdered sugar
7 tablespoons milk
1/4 cup Unsweetened cocoa
Plastic spiders

1. Prepare cake as directed on package.
2. Pour into 2, 8" square aluminum foil pans coated with cooking spray;
3. Bake at 350~ for 30-35 minutes or until tested done. Cool in pans on wire racks.
5. Combine 4 cups powdered sugar and 5-7 Tbsp milk in a large bowl;
6. Spread a thin layer evenly over each cake.
7. Combine 1 cup powdered sugar, cocoa and 2 Tbsp milk; spoon into a small zip-lock bag. Close bag securely and snip a tiny hole in bottom corner of bag.
8. Carefully pipe concentric circles onto each cake. Pipe straight lines at intervals from the inner circle through the outside circle, forming a web design. Garnish with plastic spiders.


Spider Egg Cider

Servings:
One person

Needed:
1 cup of apple juice
A dash of cinnamon
1 cinnamon stick
A few raisins

1. Mix the apple juice with a dash of cinnamon and a few raisins and warm it in the microwave or on the stove.
2. Mix the brew with a cinnamon stick.


 Now you and friends are ready to curl up in a corner with your favorite ghost stories, a flashlight and your favorite spider treats.
