Materials:
String or yarn; 6 6 inch pieces of string; 4-12 inch pieces of string; Diluted
white glue or liquid starch; Wax paper
Directions:
Let the children dip pieces of string into dishes of glue or starch. Then
have them lay their strings on wax paper to create the spider's web. Lay the
string in the shape of a spiral overlapping the ends. Lay the large pieces of
string over the spiral in the shape of a cross. When the strings dry, they will
become stiff and hold their shapes.
Materials:
Paper plate; pie pan; black/white paint; plastic spider ring
Directions:
Put a paper plate in a pie pan and give the student a small dab of black
paint. You can also paint a paper plate black and do the activity with the white
paint to look more realistic. After the small dab of paint is placed on the
student's plate, drop a marble in and let the child move the pie pan in all
different directions to make a spooky spider web. After it has dried, punch a
hole in the plate and attach a plastic spider ring or sponge paint a spider in
the web.
Materials:
Flour; salt; water; large bowl; squeeze bottles; black paper; white puffy paint
Directions:
Mix equal parts of flour, salt, and water in a large bowl. Pour the mixture
into squeeze bottles. Give each child a black paper plate or a piece of black
construction paper. Let the children squeeze the white puffy paint onto the
black paper. When the puffy paint dries, it will look like glittery cobwebs.
Materials:
Crayons or markers; masking tape; scissors; 1 straw; string or fishing line; tag
board or construction paper; pencil; 2 pipe cleaners
Directions:

Find a bug or a picture of one, then make a quick sketch. Fold paper in half.
Draw half of each segment. Unfold. Decorate to look like your bug. Cut a piece
of straw to fit in the abdomen area. Tape straw to the back. Bend pipe cleaner
for legs. Tape legs to straw. Cut leftover straw in half. Cut 5m of string. Tie
small straw pieces to ends of string. Pull the string through the straw on
glider. Hang it from the ceiling or in the door way. You're ready to test it
out! Pull the two lines apart.
Materials:
Egg carton; 8 pipe cleaners; markers/pencil/crayon
Directions:
To make your own spider, simply cut one cup out of an egg carton.
Shape eight pipe cleaners into legs, as shown below. Place four legs on each
side of the cup. Secure the pipe cleaners to the inside of the cup with
tape. Then draw a face using colored markers or crayons.
Even young kids can make spiders by gluing two black pompoms together and adding black pipe cleaner legs. Add wiggly eyes for fun.
Watch out for the spider...
