The Music of
Jo Gamm Witt

Jo Gamm Witt, Songwriter

Bio

Jo Gamm Witt is an accomplished pianist, vocalist and songwriter.

Jo began playing the piano at age seven and has played before audiences
since eighth grade as one of two accompanists for the junior high choir.
She has continued to play the piano regularly in church since high school
and has played for a couple of weddings, the first when she was in eighth grade.

Jo has enjoyed singing since she was a young child and was involved with
choir in both junior high and high school. While in college, Jo was a
vocalist and pianist for a Christian singing group that travelled to perform
in both Missouri and Iowa. Jo sang specials regularly in churches she attended
in both Missouri and Iowa, and has sung specials on occasion at her current
church in Minnesota.

Jo began writing music in 1982, which evolved from her figuring out how to
play favorite songs she'd taped off the radio. Soon after a friend suggested,
"Why don't you write music for our group?", Jo awoke one morning with the words
and music for the song "We Are Friends" running through her head. Subsequently
Jo has written 11 songs, mostly contemporary Christian, but also two ballads and
a hymn. Jo's song "God Made Us One" was sung at her wedding. Her song
"There's Only One Thing" evolved from questions her then 4-year-old daughter was
asking about God, and Jo performed this song at the baptism of her then
pastor's first child.

Recently Jo had five of her songs professionally recorded on a demo,
the songs of which can be downloaded by clicking on the links in the "Demo"
section below. This demo is also available by regular mail upon request.
Individuals may purchase this CD for personal use by clicking on the link below or
by sending a check or money order for $7 with your name and address.

The lyrics for all 11 songs (the first five listed are on the professionally
recorded demo) are printed below for your purusal, and if interested in hearing
all of the songs, they can be made available to you on a lower-quality,
home-recorded cassette.
Jo's objective is to connect with a recording artist
(perhaps via a publisher or recording company)
who would record her songs on an album.

Jo can be contacted by email at SongsByJo@gmail.com

Lyrics

Just Hold Me Close
Copyright 2003 by Jo Ann Witt

Verse 1:
So I'm feeling low again
And nothing seems to turn out right.
And where are friends when you need them?
I'm lost and alone again.
Won't somebody help me?
Just show me that you care.
Help me up when I'm falling down.
I can't do this on my own.
Where are you?

Chorus:
Just hold me close
And don't ask me why.
I don't want to talk about it,
I just want to cry.
Just hold me close
And don't ask me why.
You are the best friend I know.

Verse 2:
There's no greater pain than
To be hurt by a friend.
Abandoned in my darkest hour
by one who said he cared.
Now my heart is breaking
With pain throughout my soul.
Yearning for a caring heart
To see my desperate need.
Where are you?

CHORUS

Bridge:
Just reach out to me.
Just reach out to me.
Can't you see me?

REPEAT CHORUS (WITH KEY CHANGE)

You are the best friend I know.
Just hold me close.

There's Only One Thing
Copyright 1997 by Jo Ann Witt

Verse 1:
Tonight I sit here holding my child. Got a lot of things on my mind.
Been another hard day. Got bills to pay. I'm so tired I could drift asleep.
But for now I'll spend this time with you. There's so much I need to say.
So snuggle up tight and listen up close. Please hear the words I say:

Chorus:
If you don't hear anything else I say as I talk with you tonight,
There's Only One Thing in this life that counts:
Giving God first place in your life.
Not the love of man, of money or things gonna bring you lasting joy.
There's Only One Thing in this life that counts:
Giving God first place in your life.

Verse 2:
It's getting late now, and I know you're tired as you lay here in my arms.
Still so much I'd like to say to you, but not sure what you'd understand.
There's evil lurking everywhere. So afraid you'll be led astray.
Gotta keep the faith, lean on God for help and turn the other way.

CHORUS

Bridge:
Watch your step. They want to use your body,
Want to mess with your mind.
Read the Word and say your prayers.
Please choose the narrow way--ay.

Verse 3:
Now it's off to bed with a hug and a kiss at the end of another day.
Let me hold you close and show you my love. You'll be in my prayers tonight.
And some day I hope you'll hold your child and tell him all these things.
'Cause, my child, there is only one thing that will bring you lasting joy.

Chorus:
So, if you don't hear anything else I say as I talk with you tonight,
There's Only One Thing in this life that counts:
Giving God first place in your life.
Not the love of man, of money or things gonna bring you lasting joy.
There's Only One Thing in this life that counts:
Giving God first place in your life.
There's Only One Thing in this life that counts:
Giving God first place in your life.
There's Only One Thing.

We Are Friends
Copyright 1983 & 1984 by Jo Ann Gamm

Verse 1:
I wake up in the morning and I hear my Lord say, "Take my hand."
We walk along the path of the morning as we talk hand in hand.
There are times when I stumble. There are times when I fall.
His hands lift me up. We're still together hand in hand.
As long as He's beside me, I will know I'll rise again.
He's the Shepherd of my life and We Are Friends.

Chorus:
He's my Friend when I am happy. He's my Friend when I am sad.
He forever is beside me as we walk hand in hand.
Whatever happens to me as I live from day to day--
He's beside me. He's my Shepherd. We Are Friends.

Verse 2:
The morn breaks into the afternoon. He is there.
People pass along the path. "Do they know you, Lord?" I ask.
He turns to say,--
"If you can't see from the way they live their lives from day to day,
"Do you think they really know Me? Do they take My outstretched hand?
"When tomorrow comes and all see Me, you'll know then who is Mine.
"In the meantime just remember We Are Friends."

CHORUS

Whatever happens to me as I live from day to day--
He's beside me. He's my Shepherd. We Are Friends.
Whatever happens to me--We Are Friends.

I'm Coming Back
Copyright 1985 by Jo Ann Gamm

Verse 1:
It's easy to get caught up in the trials of each day.
Sometimes I feel like I'm so lost, and I don't know what to say.
I wonder if there's a God above who accepts me as I am.
And I wonder if--I'm still His lamb.

Verse 2:
I wander about so aimlessly so saddened by it all.
I see no reason to live my life, and I don't hear Jesus call.
I wonder if He hears me pray and answers what I ask.
And I wonder what--is my life's task.

Chorus:
But I'm Coming Back--to Jesus. I'm Coming Back--today.
I'm Coming Back--to Jesus. I'm Coming Back--to stay.
And tomorrow's trials--won't make me stray,
'Cause now it's Jesus--all the way.

Verse 3:
Because I learned something new just the other day
That I think you ought to know.
I feel a certain comfort now when I pray.
Peace and joy seem to overflow.
His Word assures me there's a God above who accepts me as I am.
I'm Coming Back. I'm still His lamb.

Chorus:
I'm Coming Back--to Jesus. I'm Coming Back--today.
I'm Coming Back--to Jesus. I'm Coming Back--to stay.
And tomorrow's trials--won't make me stray.
'Cause now it's Jesus--all the way.
I'm Coming Back.
Lord, I'm Coming Back--to stay.

For Once In My Life
Copyright 1994 by Jo Ann (Gamm) Witt

Verse 1:
You and I against the world--the perfect team.
Wasn't sure where I ended and you began.
We shared our dreams together and made them all come true.
But somewhere something happened that took our dreams away.

Chorus:
For Once In My Life--I thought I'd found love.
You must have been a fantasy. Now you are gone.
Taken for granted our love would really last.
Now you've gone your way and I've gone mine.

Verse 2:
Who says spending time together builds your love?
When you're left holding nothing it's hard to go on.
Our love seemed never ending--the perfect love.
But now we have awakened to see the love is gone.

CHORUS

Bridge:
Why couldn't we see it?
Our love could never last.
Why all this heartache?
Why, oh, why I ask?

Verse 3:
Will there ever be another just like you?
Dare I play the game of love and lose my heart again?
Or keep on dreaming of the day when you'll return
To find me ready waiting to love you once again.

CHORUS

REPEAT CHORUS (WITH KEY CHANGE)

Harmony
Copyright 1985 by Jo Ann Gamm

Verse 1:
Should there be strife among us--whom God has chosen?
Treating one anther with contempt, no concern for the other's feelings.
We're too caught up in our own worlds to feel for someone else.
There's no Harmony among us. Is this the way it should be?

Chorus:
Harmony is what we should have.
Harmony between you and I.
Harmony. Harmony.

Verse 2:
Still we call ourselves God's children--while unable to forgive each other.
We're too caught up in our own worlds to feel for someone else.
There's no Harmony among us. Is this the way it should be?

CHORUS

Verse 3:
So funny how the slightest things can cause such gaps between us.
As Christians why can't we forgive and live in Harmony?
We're too caught up in our own worlds to feel for someone else.
There's no Harmony among us. Is this the way it should be?

CHORUS

Jesus Is The Way
Copyright 1985 by Jo Ann Gamm

Up at dawn--a fresh new day. Ready to live today.
Say a prayer. Get filled up with joy and love.
Let the Son shine through you. Rejoice the whole day long.
Walk with Christ. Get filled up with joy and love.

Chorus:
Oh, whoa. I'm a child of God. Be a child of God.
All day long He fills me up.
Oh, whoa. I have search around, and now I know it's true:
Jesus Is The Way.

Verse 2:
Renew yourself--each new day. Talk with God our Lord.
Time with Him fills you up with joy and love.
Let the Son shine through you. Rejoice the whole day long.

Faith In God Is The Answer
(Proverbs 3:6)
Copyright 1984 by Jo Ann Gamm

Verse 1:
Been livin' forever in a depressed state?
Ain't it time you knew what happiness is?
The deck of cards you've been holdin'
Just hasn't been good.

Verse 2:
People don't accept you though you try.
You're looking for friendships, but they never last.
You can't do anything right it seems.
Hey, ain't it time you knew the truth?

Chorus:
Faith in God is the Answer.
If you'll only put Him first in your life,
He'll crown your efforts with success.
Hey, won't you give God a try?

Verse 3:
If you want to know how to live your life,
Read your Bible every day.
Surround yourself with people who know God.
They'll be your friends for life. For life.

CHORUS

REPEAT CHORUS (WITH KEY CHANGE)

God Made Us One
Copyright 1986 by Jo Ann Gamm

Verse 1:
Did you ever look around you--and all there seemed to be
Were couple of people, and you felt so alone?
Well, that's the way my life 's been. Time spent alone.
Looking for love. Where could it be?

Chorus:
Then I found you--and God Made Us One.
You and I--together as one. Ah-ah--
God Made Us One--at just the right time.

Verse 2:
Look around you. Hey, what do you see?
At the right time--God will provide for you.
So, be patient. You can make it through.
He will provide--a love for you.

Chorus:
I found you--and God Made Us One.
You and I--together as one. Ah-ah--
God Made Us One--at just the right time.

God Made Us One--at just the right time.
You and I--together as one. Ah-ah--
God Made Us One--at just the right time.

God Made Us One--at just the right time.
It was just the right time.
Just the right time.
