May 15th Well, I made it to Barcleona in record time, and I'm on my way to meet with two friends from Vancouver who are here too, so I'll make this short. The Alhambra was amazing, but way over-crowded (they limit the number of visitors per day to 8000). Yesterday I spent the day on the beach in Alicante, which was nice and relaxing, and then hopped on a night bus to arrive in Barcelona at 7 this morning. The weather's been good overall, but today it's overcast and cool. This afternoon I went to Park Guell (the park designed by Gaudi), and I hope to have tiem to see some of the houses he designed. I plan to head home from Madrid on the 18th or 19th.
May 12th I'm back in Spain after 5 days in Portugal, where I ended up in a backpacker beach town called Lagos where I spent the day on the beach and the night at the bar. It was fun for a short while, but not somewhere I'd want to stay for long. Now I'm in Sevilla, where I plan to spend the afternoon wandering arund before heading to Granada for the night, and to see the Alhambra tomorrow.
May 8th Salamanca reminds me of Oxford, and has beautiful sandstone buildings. From there I went to Coimbra, Portugal, where I stayed with three Italian girls I met. There's a festival there right now to celebrate the end of the school year, and the city was pretty much a giant (messy) party. I came to Lisbon yesterday, and I'm staying with a girl from Bayonne (in the south of France) who is here studying Portugese. Today I spent the day wandering around Lisbon, seeing the sights. There's an incredible castle here! I plan to stay here until Friday, and then head to a town called Lagos on the south coast of Portugal, before going back to Spain.
May 4th Madrid is great! The weather is absolutely perfect, and the architecture is amazing. So far I´m not too impressed with the people, but perhaps they´re just sick of tourists in the areas I´ve been visiting. This afternoon I´m off to the Museo del Prado, before spending the evening wandering around. I think that tomorrow or the next day I´ll head to
Sevilla.
May 1st
Finishing all my coursework is
a bit anticlimactic, and I find myself free-falling...which is not so
bad, although it takes a little getting used to.
So, I'm off to Spain for a few weeks
after travel deliberations involving both Taiwan and Cuba. So far
the plan is to start in Madrid, and work my way down to the south coast
of Portugal before crossing back over to Barcelona to meet up with
Amanda.
Hopefully I'll have a chance to
post updates as I go...but I'm not promising anything (probably wise,
seeing as my photos from the UK aren't even up yet...)
