This figure can be found as a single
miniature in its own blister (titled Muriel the Just), and also can be found
as one of four figures included in one of the Dark Heaven Apocalypse deluxe
army packs (titled Sisters of the Blade).
The figure lends itself to
practicing painting hair, so that's why I chose her to paint when the time
came. Once she was painted, I was pretty much pleased with the results (she
was an early figure, so my expectations were quite low.. :)).
Unfortunately, I bought a scanner. Once I scanned the fully painted
figure in, I could see the problems that I missed before. Her skin tones
aren't. It's very messy in that area, so I decided to repaint her. Her
hair was painted with a black base and a black thru to semi-dark blue,
since black hair does have some faint bluish tinge. But I coated her with
sealant the day after she was finished. From what I've read since then,
I made two mistakes here:
-
always let the figure dry at least a few days (more like a week, if you
are serious about it).
-
brush-on coating agent can change the colors in some ways. I've noticed
this before. A figure who was painted with 4 shades of green on the skin,
came out looking just plain *green*. I'm not too sure why it happened,
but I can learn. I started with spray-on sealer right after that!
:))
So, when I re-do her (or paint another copy), I'll use the same
colors, but be more careful with the drying and sealing.
Update: I painted another miniature in the same color scheme, but with
better skin tones. It can be seen
here. |
