This figure is beautifully
sculpted, and presents a large area of skin. Just the piece to practice
painting flesh. Sort of. Although his brother came out looking pretty good, he
developed the oddest skin tone on his legs. Parts of him are not finished, I
quit when I couldn't stand the overall look any more... :))
As far as I can tell, the problem came about because of over-correction
of the tone of the paint on his limbs. I decided to try to section his
skin into 5 surfaces (head, arms and legs), and to paint each one separately.
-
The first arm went well (the right one).
-
The second arm (left) wasn't too bad, with only a small amount of over-correction
in the triceps area.
-
The first leg (the right one) wasn't too bad either. I thought that
a little corrective wash would probably even out the skin tones.
-
The fourth limb (the left leg), was where everything fell apart. I couldn't
get the tones on it to match those on any of the other limbs. When I did
what I thought would work, I then had to re-correct the right leg to match
it. Then back to the left leg... etc... When I gave up, they all
looked pretty bad, except for that first arm, which still looked pretty
good (by comparison, at least... :)).
Although I liked some of the other elements on the figure (the
fur cape, for instance), I gave it up for a bad job and threw him into
the pine sol bucket.
