GOOD NEWS OF GREAT JOY

nativity scene

"And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him
in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because
there was no room for them in the inn."
--- Luke 2:7

Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King,
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven and heaven and nature sing!

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, and wonders, of His love.

~ SYMBOLS OF CHRISTMAS ~

FIR TREE
The pure green color of the stately fir tree
remains green all year around, depicting
the everlasting hope of mankind.
All the needles point heavenward, making it
a symbol of man's thoughts toward heaven.

STAR
The heavenly sign of promises long ago.
God promised a Savior for the world,
and the star was the sign of
the fulfillment of that promise.

CANDLE
The candle symbolizes that Christ
is the Light of the World, and when
we see this Great Light we are reminded
of Him who displaced the darkness.

WREATH
The wreath symbolizes the eternal nature of love.
Real love never ceases.
Love is one continuous round of affection.

HOLLY
The holly plant represents immortality.
It represents the crown of thorns
worn by our Savior. The red holly berries
represent the blood shed by Him.

GIFT
"God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son..."
Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift.
The Wise Men bowed before the Holy Babe
and presented Him with gold, frankincense,
and myrrh. We should always give gifts
in the same spirit as the Wise Men.

CANDY CANE
The candy cane represents the shepherd's crook.
The crook on the shepherd's staff helps
to bring back strayed sheep to the flock.
The candy cane is the symbol
that we are our brother's keeper.

ANGEL
The Angels heralded the glorious news
of the Savior's birth. They sang
"Glory to God in the Highest,
on earth peace, and good will toward men."

BELL
The bell symbolizes guidance and return.
Lost sheep are found by the
sounds of their bells. The Good Shepherd seeks
the lost to bring them back to His fold.

SANTA
Symbolizes the generosity and
good will we feel during
the month of December.
